How much adversity can one person face in a lifetime?

Marlene Parrott from Geelong could test the limit. Her story begins in an orphanage, where she was sent when her parents were no longer able or willing to care for her. Things turned around when she met her curly-haired partner of 38-years, Dale. They had two beautiful kids. Both kids faced their own hurdles though, including drug use and tragically, Marlene's daughter Maddison was murdered in 2018.

I really enjoyed hanging out with You Beauty's Leigh Campbell. After several miscarriages, Leigh decided to go down the IVF path. If you don't know, IVF can be a difficult for lots of reasons; injections, hormones, cost, and no guarantee that it'll lead to a child. Leigh documented the journey, which became more complex than she imagined when — after everything she'd been through (and almost giving up) — she became pregnant naturally. Also, Leigh's top beauty tips for summer.

Ali Donaldson was one of the first journalists on the ground after the Bali bombings in October, 2002. Twenty years on, Ali shares never before heard detail from investigators, medics, and survivors who were there when the horrific explosion ripped through the Kuta night district. Bali is a fav holiday destination for so many of us and the impact of this terrorist attack reverberated far beyond the 88 Australians who died that night.

This is how Ellidy Pullin reflects on her story and the birth of her "miracle" daughter, Minnie. We were shocked when her partner and winter Olympian, Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin died in an accident in 2020. Since then, Ellidy has created resources for others dealing with grief. Ellidy joined me to chat about her love story and how (after Chumpy passed) she made a decision, with the family, to go through a process called sperm retrieval.

Shark Arm Murder Mystery: It was the afternoon of April 26th, 1935, when the largest shark ever in captivity (we’re calling her Shirley) spewed up a full human arm in front of a dozen witnesses. The arm bore a distinctive tattoo & was identified as belonging to a known Sydney criminal named Jimmy.

“Talking about the death of a child is a taboo… and I think we NEED to talk about this stuff”, says author, Rebecca Sparrow.

I invited the self-described agony aunt for teens and tweens on to talk about friendship and how we can help our kids navigate those tricky transitional years. It turns Rebecca's advice can be applied to adults too (which I found pretty handy!). But as we began to talk about family, the conversation went in a different direction. Rebecca opened up about stillbirth, and losing her daughter, Georgie.
