What Lindsay Clancy And Bryan Kohberger's Cases Never Answered Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

Neither of these cases will ever answer the question that matters most to the families in them.

Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent with twenty-one years reading behavior under pressure, cover the Lindsay Clancy trial openings and Bryan Kohberger's petition to withdraw his guilty plea.

On Clancy, this works through Patrick Clancy's testimony about the last ordinary day, including the photos traded that morning and his line that she was having one of her best days. It also covers the hospital stay, and the discharge he testified he never knew she had asked for. Cora, Dawson and Callan died in January 2023. Criminal responsibility is the only live question, and the Commonwealth owns that burden.

On Kohberger, this covers the handwritten petition filed in Ada County District Court, his claim of actual innocence, and his assertion that he was convinced to falsely confess. It also covers the letter Latah County prosecutors sent the families of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, promising the plea would spare them decades of post-conviction appeals. There was never a trial and there has never been a motive on the record.

In Plymouth, a chain of licensed professionals made every call and faces nothing. In Boise, an office traded away a trial and guaranteed an ending it could not deliver. One family will never hear why. The other is watching a man they were told was finished file paperwork to start it all again.

The Clancy trial has weeks to run and the Kohberger petition is still pending, so neither of these ends here. Subscribe to True Crime Today for the next development in each case.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Husband's Cross-Examination Bolsters Insanity Defense Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Patrick Clancy took the stand again today β€” this time under cross-examination from defense attorney Kevin Reddington β€” in the murder trial of his wife, Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling their three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and Reddington is arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication at the time.

Where the prosecution used Patrick to lay out a timeline, the defense used him to humanize it. He testified that Lindsay dreaded returning to work β€” not out of ambition or obligation, but because she couldn't stand being separated from the children. Reddington then walked him through her mental health after each of the three births, and got him to confirm something specific: the reason she only took a handful of pills from each prescription wasn't resistance to treatment. It was physician instruction.

That distinction is the whole ballgame for an insanity defense. "She wasn't compliant" and "she was compliant with a shifting set of doctor's orders" tell two very different stories to a jury.

Prosecutors still need to convince that jury she knew right from wrong that day. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to last several weeks.

Nolan Wells' Viral Video Got THIS Completely Wrong Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Nobody looking hard at the Nolan Wells case is being paranoid, and anyone who says otherwise has not looked at where this happened. Mississippi earned every ounce of the suspicion aimed at it, and it paid for that in full.

Rasheem Carter was twenty-five. His remains were found in the woods south of Taylorsville in November 2022, and the very next day the sheriff's department announced it had no reason to believe foul play was involved. The state medical examiner's office never could establish a cause of death. Months later that same sheriff told reporters he had not actually ruled out homicide.

In Rankin County, six former law officers went into a home without a warrant in January 2023 and were later sentenced to a combined total measured in decades, after court documents described them planting evidence to bury what they had done.

So when Nolan Xavier Wells goes to Horn Island on the Fourth of July at eighteen years old and comes back in a body bag with a sealed autopsy attached, the question writes itself.

But look closely at what those two Mississippi failures actually were. In one, a sheriff talked, reaching a public conclusion in about a day. In the other, officers wrote down a story that was not true. Neither failure was silence. Both were certainty, arriving far too early.

That distinction changes how you read everything happening in Jackson County, including a viral video that millions have misread, a statute nobody is discussing, and one moment where officials in this case genuinely did speak too soon.

The People Bryan Kohberger Blames For His Confession Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Bryan Kohberger is not blaming the evidence. He is blaming the people who told him to sign.

In a handwritten petition for post-conviction relief filed in Ada County District Court, Kohberger claims he received ineffective assistance from his defense team. He says evidence in his favor was never disclosed or reviewed. He says he was convinced to confess to something he did not do. He is representing himself. He told the New York Times his actual innocence is his truth.

Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and former chief of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, work through who exactly is being accused here and what that accusation costs.

Anne Taylor represented Kohberger at the time of the plea. Her office has declined to comment. She is being blamed in the national press by a former client while her own ethics rules keep her from answering a word of it. That happens to defense lawyers every time a client turns, and almost nobody covers it.

The breakdown also covers the rest of the filing. He claims he was given a distorted account of what a life sentence and death row in Idaho would look like. And he says he would welcome prosecutors seeking the death penalty against him again, which is the outcome the plea deal existed to prevent.

The four students killed in Moscow in November 2022 were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. There was never a trial, never a cross-examination, and no motive was ever required of him. Everything the public knows about that night comes from investigators, and Kohberger now calls their account a work of fiction.

True Crime Today follows this case through every filing and hearing with the analysis that explains what each one means. Subscribe for coverage of the ruling on this petition and whatever he files next.

Bryan Kohberger Is Asking For The Death Penalty Back Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Bryan Kohberger traded a capital murder trial for a deal that took the death penalty off the table. He is now telling the State of Idaho it is welcome to come put it back.

He is also the man who stood in an Ada County courtroom and said guilty four separate times, once for each of the four University of Idaho students he admitted killing.

This episode takes his claim seriously enough to actually test it. We go through the petition he filed to undo his conviction, the argument he appears to be making, and the extraordinary standard he would have to clear to get anywhere. We look at what he left out of the filing, which turns out to matter more than what he put in.

Then we go back to the day itself. Who was with him. How long he and his lawyers had been going through the evidence before he walked into that room. And the specific sworn statement he made to the judge that his new claim runs directly into.

The families of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were split on the plea deal when it happened. Some of them made peace with it because a prosecutor put a promise in writing about exactly this kind of filing. That letter is where this story turns from a stunt into something worth being angry about.

Kaylee Goncalves' family issued a response within hours that dismantles the petition line by line, and gives him a description that has stuck.

Drawn from the court docket, the filings, and dated reporting on the University of Idaho case.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: The Pharmacy Call and the Dinner Order That Night Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Prosecutors are building the case one ordinary moment at a time. Today, that meant two witnesses in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy β€” the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children, Cora (5), Dawson (3), and Callan (7 months), with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and is pursuing an insanity defense through attorney Kevin Reddington centered on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Angela Krause, general manager of the CVS in Kingston, testified that Clancy called the pharmacy directly to ask about a specific medication. Investigators separately requested surveillance footage from the day Patrick Clancy came in to pick that prescription up β€” a detail the jury now has, with no explanation yet of what it's meant to show.

Then Saria Sweeney Shelgren, a hostess at ThreeV restaurant in Plymouth, testified she took an order from Clancy that same night. Her voice, Shelgren said, wasn't slurred or impaired. A man picked the food up. It's not a dramatic detail on its own, but it's exactly the kind of thing the state wants on record when the defense is arguing psychiatric breakdown.

That's the pattern with this stretch of testimony: timeline, timeline, timeline. Prosecutors are stacking small, verifiable facts to account for every hour before three children were killed. Afterward, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court.

Patrick Clancy Takes the Stand: What He Saw the Day His Children Died Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

The husband at the center of the Lindsay Clancy murder trial testified today, describing the moment he came home to a scene no parent should ever have to describe out loud. Lindsay Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Patrick Clancy testified he found his wife outside the home, bloody and broken, after she allegedly jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt that left her paralyzed from the waist down. He then went inside and found his children in the basement. The courtroom didn't need dramatic questioning to feel the weight of that testimony β€” the facts alone carried it. Patrick delivered his account without theatrics, which somehow made it land harder.

What the defense is building toward isn't a dispute over what Patrick found β€” it's an argument about what his wife's mind was doing to her that day. Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, and after her own attempted suicide, Clancy survived paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick has since relocated to Manhattan and spoken to The New Yorker about her mental health in the lead-up to the deaths. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks.

Who Signed Off On Lindsay Clancy Going Home Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Someone approved Lindsay Clancy's discharge. That decision has not been on trial, and it may never be.

She entered Massachusetts General on New Year's Eve 2022 after telling her husband she was having intrusive thoughts about hurting their children, and was transferred to McLean early on January 1. On January 5, after asking to go home, she was released with an appointment scheduled for the following day.

Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and former chief of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, work through what that release was built on.

Patrick Clancy testified he did not know his wife had asked to leave. He said he was unaware she had been offered daily one-on-one therapy and unaware she had turned down additional group sessions. He said that from what he saw and heard, it did not seem like she was being treated, with a weekend and an observed holiday delaying her first doctor visit.

She reported to providers that the thoughts had passed. Her daughter's fifth birthday party was two days after she got home. Cora died seventeen days after the party.

Dreeke spent a career deciding whether people were being honest about their own state of mind. He explains what a clinician can actually confirm, and what every hospital is left guessing at.

Cora had just turned five. Dawson was three. Callan was eight months old. Nobody disputes how they died. The only question for this jury is what their mother understood at the time, and the Commonwealth has to prove it.

Subscribe to True Crime Today for coverage of the expert testimony ahead in this trial.

What Lindsay Clancy Did With The Kids That Afternoon Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Before any of it, there was a snowman.

Patrick Clancy testified that on the afternoon of January 24, 2023, his wife built one in the yard with their three children and then did art projects with them inside. That morning she had taken five-year-old Cora to a doctor's appointment while he stayed home with the boys, and the two of them had traded photos by text. Three-year-old Dawson had dressed himself for the first time.

He told the jury she was having one of her best days.

Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and former chief of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, work through what that afternoon is worth to each side.

The Commonwealth wants it as proof of a clear mind. Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham told jurors this was not a woman in the throes of psychosis. The defense needs those same hours to point somewhere else.

The episode also covers what prosecutors say happened after the art projects. A drive plotted from the house to a restaurant nobody in the family had tried, then on to a pharmacy. A shopping list with dinner on it and children's medicine under it. An errand that emptied the house.

Dreeke takes on the behavioral question directly. What does a genuinely good day tell you about the mind having it, and what does it fail to tell you?

Cora was five. Dawson was three. Callan was eight months old. Their mother has pleaded not guilty and does not dispute causing their deaths, which leaves a jury of twelve women and six men to decide what she understood while it happened.

The trial is expected to run six to eight weeks.

Subscribe to True Crime Today for coverage of the expert testimony ahead.

D4vd Texted 'wen u gonna get it done' About WHAT?! Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Five words, sent to a thirteen-year-old, read aloud by an LAPD detective at the d4vd preliminary hearing, and the answer that came back was two days. This episode covers the July 24 session in the case against David Anthony Burke, the singer known as d4vd, charged with murder in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Detective Corey Farell, closing out the prosecution's presentation, testified that the messages between Burke and Celeste begin in August 2022, when she was eleven years old, and do not stop until April 23, 2025, the day prosecutors allege she was killed. The January 2024 exchange indicates Celeste was pregnant. It includes Burke's laughing reply to a child carrying that weight, the question about when she would get it done, and one more question he told her his mother advised him to ask, whether it was his. Celeste answered with his name. That name, prosecutors say, was tattooed in red ink on her finger, one of two fingers missing when she was found, and a court brief states they believe that is exactly why. The session also brought Dr. Grant Ho's autopsy testimony. Two sharp-force wounds. A timeline the science could only narrow to at least weeks. And answers her family will never get, because of the condition her remains were left in. Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His attorneys spent the hearing attacking the evidence trail, and the decision on a trial belongs to Judge Charlaine Olmedo alone. Every quote in this episode comes from open court testimony and filings. None of it can be unsaid, none of it leaves this case, and all of it is waiting for a jury if the judge sends it there.
