Lindsay Clancy Trial: Neck Collar, Cold Exposure, and a Recess Until Friday Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial is now in recess until Friday morning, but not before jurors heard from two more people who were on scene in the earliest, most chaotic minutes after Clancy's three children were found. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of strangling 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, argues she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Duxbury firefighter-paramedic Daniel Dougherty testified about fitting Clancy with a stabilizing neck collar and treating her en route in the ambulance. Cross-examination pushed into whether cold exposure could have restricted her blood flow β€” a detail that matters more than it sounds, given what the defense is trying to establish about her condition that day. Duxbury Police Officer Vincent Cahill then walked jurors through what he found at the scene, the equipment he brought in trying to help, and his role assisting with CPR on Cora β€” testimony that doesn't get easier to deliver no matter how many times an officer has had to give it.

Prosecutors maintain Clancy understood what she was doing regardless of her mental state. She allegedly attempted suicide afterward by jumping from a second-story window and remains paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. Proceedings resume Friday morning in Plymouth Superior Court and are expected to continue for several more weeks.

Lindsay Clancy Asked Her Doctors For THIS Instead Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

According to her defense, Lindsay Clancy was not asking her doctors for more medication. She was asking to come off it. The state's opening in Plymouth Superior Court described the same history as manipulation and a search for a quick and easy fix.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott work through which of those readings the clinical record actually supports.

Scott has more than thirty years behind her in private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs, and she is here for the part of this case that is genuinely misunderstood rather than the part that is merely contested.

The conversation walks the treatment history her lawyer put in front of the jury. An antidepressant dose increase, followed by days without sleep and racing thoughts, which her lawyers describe as textbook activation and a signal of an underlying bipolar condition. A postpartum program she walked herself into before Christmas 2022. A psychiatric hospital she checked herself into on New Year's Eve. The count of thirteen psychiatric prescriptions across four months, per her attorney's presentation and the Boston Globe's review of the record.

Then the harder question. If the most medically literate patient imaginable cannot get a correct diagnosis inside a specialty program, what exactly is the standard for everybody else?

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the January 24, 2023 deaths of her three children. She does not deny causing them.

The conversation closes on the distance between understanding an illness and excusing a death. Scott's argument is that most people collapse those two into one thing, and that the fear of the second is exactly what stops them engaging with the first.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Paramedics Describe the Scene Inside That Duxbury Home Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy moved into some of its hardest testimony yet, as three first responders recounted what they walked into at the family's Summer Street home in Duxbury, Massachusetts on January 24, 2023. Clancy, 34, is accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise resistance bands. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, is arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Duxbury firefighter-paramedic Patrick Dwyer testified about trying to resuscitate Cora and getting her to the hospital. Fellow Duxbury paramedic Jennifer Stratton described performing CPR on baby Callan. And Pembroke's Robert Costanzo told jurors about treating Clancy herself, giving her Narcan on suspicion of an opioid overdose β€” Narcan that, notably, does nothing for benzodiazepines, which he wasn't trained to address. Clancy never woke up from it. On cross-examination, Costanzo conceded he missed the spinal fractures Clancy was later found to have, and that his entire window with her β€” roughly seven minutes β€” wasn't enough time to gauge how badly her neck and wrists were actually hurt.

Prosecutors maintain Clancy understood the nature of her actions regardless of her mental state. She allegedly attempted suicide afterward by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was running errands at the time of the killings and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to last several more weeks.

What Every Provider Kept From Lindsay Clancy's Husband Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

Two days on the witness stand. The prosecution's first and most important witness in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial. And everything Patrick Clancy said in Plymouth Superior Court made the defense's case stronger. He walked the jury through finding a bedroom covered in blood, his wife beneath an open window, and his three children in the basement. The 911 call played in court left jurors visibly emotional and the judge calling a recess. But during cross-examination, Patrick described a woman who spent months going from provider to provider, getting prescription after prescription, tracking every pill in a journal, checking herself into McLean Hospital voluntarily β€” and never once being told by any medical professional that she shouldn't be left alone with Cora, Dawson, and Callan. The prosecution tried to undercut the overmedication defense with nine bottles still containing pills. Tony explains why that evidence cuts against the state's own argument. Plus the defense motion over how prosecutors are characterizing Lindsay's internet searches, and the voice Lindsay says she heard on the night of January 24, 2023.

Duxbury Firefighters Recall the Scene at the Clancy Home β€” Lindsay Clancy Trial Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial turned to the people who arrived first β€” the Duxbury firefighters and paramedics who walked into the Summer Street home on January 24, 2023, and tried to save what could still be saved. Clancy, 34, is accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise resistance bands. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and is mounting an insanity defense through attorney Kevin Reddington, who argues she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Captain PJ Hussey, a firefighter and paramedic dispatched to the scene, testified about what the response looked like from the moment crews arrived. Loring "Chuck" Nudd, a now-retired Duxbury EMT who was in the first ambulance on scene, described watching the children brought up from the basement and the aid his crew attempted on the spot. Keith Nette, a firefighter and paramedic, told jurors he worked to treat 3-year-old Dawson in the hospital. Three witnesses, three angles on the same impossible scene β€” and a jury that had to sit with all of it.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to last several weeks.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Two First Responders, One Devastating Account of the Scene Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Clancy trial heard back-to-back testimony today from the two Duxbury police officers who got to Summer Street first. Stephen Hall and Brian Josephine responded together on January 24, 2023, and their accounts, taken side by side, laid out exactly what the first minutes at that house looked like β€” Clancy found outside, the three children located in the basement, and an attempt to resuscitate 5-year-old Cora.

Clancy, 34, faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, accused of killing her children β€” Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise resistance bands. She's pleaded not guilty. Her defense, led by Kevin Reddington, isn't contesting what happened in that house β€” it's arguing she didn't understand it while it was happening, pointing to severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. After the killings, Clancy allegedly jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan.

What made today notable wasn't drama β€” it was consistency. Two officers, two independent accounts, describing the same scene the same way. That's exactly what prosecutors want on the record before the trial moves into more contested territory: forensic evidence, psychiatric evaluations, dueling experts arguing over Clancy's state of mind that morning. Hall and Josephine weren't there to argue anything. They were there to do the job, and today they told the jury what that job looked like.

The trial is being heard at Plymouth Superior Court under Judge William F. Sullivan, with ADAs Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham prosecuting.

How Bryan Kohberger Keeps Himself In The Story Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

A year of silence, and then Bryan Kohberger surfaced in the exact window that guaranteed the biggest possible room. The Idaho student murders documentary premiere had been on the calendar publicly for two weeks.

Tony Brueski sits down with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, thirty years across private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs, for a conversation about attention as the actual currency here.

What the episode covers: the sequence of the statement, the filing, and the premiere, and why the order of those three matters. The stated purpose of the documentary, which director Skye Borgman described as putting the four students and their lives back at the center. The sentence in Kohberger's statement thanking people who believe in his innocence. And the long, ugly history of killers whose stories expanded and contracted depending on the size of the audience.

H.H. Holmes went from denial to a confession claiming a hundred deaths, reportedly for money, then back down again with the newspapers blamed for the appetite. Henry Lee Lucas went from one confession to three hundred and fifty while officers with cold cases brought him meals, then recanted the whole thing once that stopped. A hundred and thirty years apart, and the mechanism is identical.

Then there is the hardest part of all of it. The Goncalves family went after the newspaper that published him, not just the man himself. There is a real argument that the correct response is silence.

Scott works with people who have lived through this kind of case. Her answer to what those families actually need from the rest of us is not the one most people expect.

Scott also handles the counterargument, which says none of this is strategy at all. A man who has genuinely reorganized his own account of events would broadcast it at the first available opportunity, regardless of what else happened to be on the calendar that week.

Follow True Crime Today for the next conversation.

How Bryan Kohberger Explains The Answer He Gave A Judge Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Bryan Kohberger guilty plea is on the table again, and the question underneath it is not legal. It is whether a person can say the word guilty out loud, four separate times, and then genuinely stop believing it.

He pleaded guilty in July 2025 to the murders of four University of Idaho students and was sentenced to four consecutive life terms. He waived his right to appeal. A year later he filed a petition for post-conviction relief and told the New York Times that his actual innocence is his truth.

Tony Brueski talks it through with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, whose background covers private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs.

What they get into: how a plea colloquy works on the person giving it, with a judge asking directly whether the answer is honest. What twelve months of enforced silence does to somebody's account of their own life. Why he reached for the specific words he reached for. And what a man in his position gets out of writing about himself the way he did.

The filing itself is his allegation against his own attorneys and nothing more than that at this stage. But one strand of it lands regardless of what a court does with it, because it amounts to a claim that he was misled about what a life sentence would feel like.

The Goncalves family answered that in public. They said he hates that life, and he wants another chance to roll the dice.

Scott also takes on whether an account of yourself survives twelve months of that kind of isolation intact. Her answer is that it does not. It either hardens into something rigid and defended, or it mutates into something the person has come to genuinely believe. Neither of those looks like lying in the ordinary sense of the word.

True Crime Today brings you the conversations behind the headlines. Follow for the next one.

How Many Pills Lindsay Clancy Actually Took Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Lindsay Clancy trial testimony started with a father describing his three children to a jury, and ended with a prosecutor reading him pharmacy counts off nine bottles. Patrick Clancy was the Commonwealth's very first witness in Plymouth Superior Court, and the afternoon did not go the way an opening witness usually goes. Prosecutors asked him to describe Cora, Dawson, and Callan. He needed a moment before he could. Then the questions turned to prescriptions, and the state entered a bag of pill bottles into the record. Seven gone from one. Six out of thirty from another. One bottle that had never been opened. The prosecutor asked him point blank whether he understood that a lot had been prescribed and very little had been taken. He agreed, and then said the context was important. Here is why that exchange is the whole trial in miniature. The state wants those counts to prove she cannot blame medication she was not swallowing. The defense wants those same counts to prove that prescriptions were flying out of multiple offices with nobody checking what was actually happening to the woman receiving them. Same exhibit, two completely different cases. This episode walks the counts, the September conversation about a prescription that turned out to have been filled a day earlier, the family videos the state used to argue she was fine, and the reason a jury may hear that footage differently than prosecutors intend. We also cover what Patrick Clancy said about telehealth appointments, what he never got told about his wife's hospital stay, and the number he gave investigators that sent him looking for a lawyer.

Lindsay Clancy Trial Continues: Part 2 of Patrick's Testimony Breaks Down Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The second half of Patrick Clancy's cross-examination played out today in the trial of his wife, Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling their three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, with defense attorney Kevin Reddington arguing severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication drove her actions.

Reddington used the second round to hammer home themes from earlier in the day. Patrick reaffirmed that Lindsay dreaded going back to work, driven by a fear of being away from her kids rather than anything resembling detachment. He was also asked again about her medication β€” and confirmed once more that the limited number of pills she took from each prescription came down to physician direction, not her own decision to cut back.

Repetition is a strategy here, not an accident. Reddington isn't introducing new information β€” he's making sure the jury can't walk away from this stretch of testimony without absorbing the "doctor's orders" framing.

Prosecutors, for their part, still have to convince the jury she understood the nature of her actions that day. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court.
