Why Lindsay Clancy's Psychiatrist Never Met Her Before Her Children Died Aug 14, 2026
    Show notes

Lindsay Clancy saw her psychiatrist fourteen times. Every appointment was a video call. Dr. Jennifer Tufts testified she never observed signs of psychosis and that Lindsay denied wanting to hurt herself or anyone else. On cross-examination, the foundation of that testimony collapsed.

Tufts didn't have Lindsay's full medical record during treatment. She never used the Edinburgh screening scale. She was unaware Lindsay had reached out to a suicide hotline on two occasions. Her board certification arrived on the same date Lindsay filled out intake paperwork. The prosecution brought her to the stand to prove Lindsay was mentally stable. Three hours of defense questioning turned that testimony into an exhibit about a healthcare system that evaluated a struggling mother through a screen.

Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis examines the prosecution's strategy three weeks into the trial. The state's premeditation theory relies on a single Google search and the timing of a takeout errand. But witness after witness called by the prosecution has described a devoted mother overwhelmed by thirteen medications and unable to get adequate help. In Massachusetts, the prosecution carries the burden of proving criminal responsibility. The state's own case may be undermining that burden.

Henry Tenon Said Four Words and the Bridegan Case Split in Three Aug 14, 2026
    Show notes

"I want a trial." Judge London Kite asked Henry Tenon whether he wanted to keep his guilty plea or take his chances with a jury, and that was his answer. She told him he had it. One prosecution turned into three separate trials stretching from August 2026 into March 2027.

Jared Bridegan died on February 16, 2022 on Sanctuary Boulevard in Jacksonville Beach. He had just dropped his twins at the home of his ex-wife, Shanna Gardner, after taking them to dinner. A tire in the road stopped his SUV. He got out to move it and was shot. His 2-year-old daughter was in the back seat and was not hit.

Mario Fernandez Saldana went first. His verdict will be read aloud rather than sealed, days before the people who will judge Gardner are chosen. We cover the wiretaps on Gardner's phone and Apple Watch that a judge refused to suppress, the witness kept off the stand under marital privilege, and the state's late disclosure that a second person drove away from the scene.

Gardner, Fernandez Saldana and Tenon have each pleaded not guilty and are presumed innocent.

Was Lindsay Clancy Ever Screened For The Right Thing? Aug 14, 2026
    Show notes

Screening tools exist because the human eye misses things. There is a ten-question screen built specifically for postpartum mood disorders. Lindsay Clancy took it in November 2022 with a nurse practitioner and scored 23 out of 30. Testimony established McLean Hospital never gave it to her.

The three first-degree murder counts against Clancy all carry not guilty pleas. Cora, Dawson, and Callan died on January 24, 2023. She admits causing their deaths. The not criminally responsible claim rests on postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder. The Commonwealth says she acted rationally and knew what she was doing.

This is the full conversation with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, running all three parts.

Part one explains the illness. A 2017 review in BMC Psychiatry puts postpartum psychosis at roughly one or two births in a thousand, and it usually arrives within days or weeks of delivery. Callan was eight months old.

Part two examines the clinicians. Dr. Jennifer Tufts treated Clancy across fourteen video sessions without ever meeting her, and testified she relied on Clancy to volunteer whatever mattered. Dr. Alia Goodheart testified her caseload had never included one.

Part three covers bipolar disorder, raised by a nurse practitioner in 2022 and written on the McLean discharge as severe depression with no psychotic features noted.

Nightbird is her published memoir. Both doctors dispute the malpractice claims.

The McLean admission began January 1, 2023 and ended with a discharge four days later. She has been in a wheelchair throughout the proceedings. Shavaun covers what changes in treatment once bipolar disorder is on the chart, and why a mood stabilizer alters the entire prescribing calculus.

Jesse Butler Owes The Court WHAT Going Forward?! Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

Jesse Mack Butler pleaded no contest to eleven felony counts in Payne County, Oklahoma in August 2025. A judge found a factual basis and entered convictions. Less than a year later, those convictions were gone.

The dismissal landed on August 3, 2026, the day before his nineteenth birthday, which is the exact point Oklahoma law ends a court's power over a youthful offender. Juvenile affairs officials reported he met every condition without a violation.

His penalty was counseling, a curfew, daily check-ins, no social media, 150 hours of community service, and roughly $3,300. He faced 78 years and never entered custody at any stage of the case.

Two sixteen-year-old Stillwater High students reported him. Civil filings say one required surgery on her throat and that a doctor told her how close she had come. Those filings also allege a coordinated effort to pressure her into silence. Butler has never answered any of it under oath.

The families fought the plea under Marsy's Law and lost in April 2026, when a judge found they had been properly notified and fairly treated. Protesters filled the courthouse steps in November 2025 demanding the judge and district attorney be removed. The district attorney later left office.

Her replacement, sworn in three days before the final hearing, is sending the file to federal prosecutors and says double jeopardy leaves him nothing else. A former prosecutor put the odds bluntly: federal authorities rarely reopen a finished state case.

State Farm has asked a federal judge to release it from defending Butler, arguing its policies cover accidents rather than intentional or criminal acts.

The girl's parents have sued Butler, his parents, and the school district. A deposition is the one thing left that puts him under oath.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Trooper's Bedroom Video Shows Knife, Handprint, and a Bloody Floor Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy moved into some of its most graphic territory today, with Massachusetts State Police case officer Joshua McKelligan testifying about the crime scene video he captured inside the Duxbury, Massachusetts home just hours after the killings. Clancy is accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and is mounting an insanity defense built on claims of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication, led by attorney Kevin Reddington.

McKelligan told jurors he entered the home in the early morning of January 25 to document the master bedroom on video, footage played in court today that centered on blood spatters and smears, a knife, and the window from which Clancy allegedly jumped. The blood, he testified, was on the floors β€” not the walls. He also described a bloody handprint discovered outside that window, and testified that Patrick Clancy personally handed him pill bottles from the home.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from that second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick Clancy was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to run several weeks.

Did Anyone Listen When Lindsay Clancy Was Warned? Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

In late 2022, a psychiatric nurse practitioner told Lindsay Clancy and her husband that Clancy might have an underlying bipolar disorder. The antidepressant prescriptions kept going.

The case involves three counts of first-degree murder, pleaded not guilty, after January 24, 2023 is the date all three died. She has never denied it. The defense frames this as postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder negating responsibility. Prosecutors argue she acted with clear intent and should answer for it.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott close out the series on the diagnosis and what it explains.

Dr. Tufts testified the December 2022 bipolar question closed on the absence of mania. Clancy disagreed with the diagnosis, and the discharge paperwork read severe depression with no psychotic features noted.

Shavaun explains bipolar I in plain terms, walks through why the average diagnostic delay runs six to ten years, and addresses what four months of anxiety and depression treatment could not account for.

She gives the honest read on antidepressants and bipolar patients rather than the convenient one. The research conflicts, and a toxicology expert testified Clancy's drug levels were low.

Shavaun Scott's published work includes Nightbird.

Clancy scored 21 out of 30 on a depression scale with Jollotta on December 6, 2022, and Jollotta testified she saw no psychosis or mania that day. Clancy's lawsuit says a Columbia psychiatrist spent eight hours with her after the deaths and diagnosed bipolar disorder with psychosis and anxious distress with postpartum onset. Shavaun explains why depression is almost always the first label a clinician reaches for, and why a patient disagreeing with a bipolar diagnosis is part of the clinical picture rather than a reason to close the file.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Detective Reveals What Was Really on Her Phone Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

Detective Timothy Chiappini of the Massachusetts State Police, a specialist in cell phone forensics, took the stand today in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She has pleaded not guilty and is mounting an insanity defense, with attorney Kevin Reddington arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication at the time of the killings.

Chiappini walked jurors through the digital trail pulled straight from Clancy's phone β€” starting with a journal entry in which she wrote about resenting her older children, feeling they were standing between her and bonding with Callan, and struggling with sleep training and weaning him off breastfeeding. He testified she wanted to parent each child "as her first." He also detailed photos on the phone that were edited on January 23, 2023 β€” the day before the killings β€” and laid out the calls, texts, and map searches from that night.

On cross, Reddington steered jurors toward a different set of searches on that same phone, and toward messages between Clancy and her mother β€” material the defense will lean on to argue psychosis, not clarity.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to last several weeks.

Lindsay Clancy's Attorney Asked About the Voices and Got This Answer Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

Kevin Reddington asked a state police sergeant whether the prosecution believed a defense psychologist told Lindsay Clancy to say she had heard voices. The question triggered a twenty-minute sidebar and a hearing outside the jury's presence.Clancy faces three first-degree murder charges in the deaths of her children at the family's Duxbury home on January 24, 2023. She has admitted to the killings. Her attorneys argue postpartum psychosis left her unable to distinguish right from wrong. Prosecutors contend she planned the deaths and carried them out with intent.Sgt. Daniel Lawlor had been guarding Clancy's room at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He testified he stayed outside the door while psychologist Paul Zeizel was with Clancy. She used Zeizel's phone to reach Patrick Clancy and reported to him that she had heard commanding voices.Lawlor confirmed under questioning that detective Josh McKelligan raised the coaching theory. He also confirmed no investigation had produced evidence for it. Buckingham denied it reflected the prosecution's thinking and pointed out that theories in active cases change.Later in the day, doctors from the state medical examiner's office testified about the mechanism and timeline of the children's deaths. Reddington chose not to cross-examine. Clancy was escorted from the courtroom after breaking down during testimony. Therapist Latiesha Dukes also told jurors she never saw signs of psychosis or mania across four sessions with Clancy.

Lindsay Clancy's Phone Told Its Own Story β€” A Detective Laid It Out Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

A Massachusetts State Police detective specializing in cell phone forensics spent today's session in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial reconstructing exactly what was on her phone in the days and hours before her three children died. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, is charged with murdering 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan by strangling them with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She's pleaded not guilty and is pursuing an insanity defense β€” attorney Kevin Reddington arguing severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication left her not criminally responsible.

Detective Timothy Chiappini read a journal entry pulled from the phone in which Clancy described resentment toward her older kids, saying they were getting in the way of her bonding with Callan. He testified about her struggles with sleep training Callan and stopping breastfeeding, and her stated desire to parent each child like a first child. Chiappini also flagged photos edited on the phone on January 23 β€” one day before the killings β€” and mapped out the calls, texts, and location data from that final night.

Reddington used cross-examination to redirect attention to a different category of searches on the same device, and to a series of texts between Clancy and her mother, laying groundwork for the defense's psychosis argument.

Prosecutors maintain Clancy knew exactly what she was doing. After the killings, she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Husband Patrick Clancy was running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks.

Clancy Trial Bombshell Unravels: Suicide Search Wasn't Even Hers, Trooper Admits Aug 13, 2026
    Show notes

A digital forensics witness delivered one of the more whiplash-inducing moments of the Lindsay Clancy trial today, and it happened in the space of a single cross-examination. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is charged with murdering her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” allegedly strangling them with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense built around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Kyle Pavao, a Massachusetts State Police cyber crime unit examiner, testified he pulled a search for "how to commit suicide" off the family's Surface Pro, along with searches tied to Tom T. Hall's suicide and Wikipedia's suicide methods page. On direct, it read like a roadmap to the state's timeline.

Then Reddington got up. Pavao conceded the search actually ran on Patrick Clancy's computer in August 2022 β€” months before the deaths β€” and that there's no way to identify who was actually typing. He also confirmed the machine held a wide range of other searches about medications, side effects, and bipolar disorder. Context the state didn't lead with.
