Lindsay Clancy Trial: State Trooper Details Hospital Lockdown After Deaths Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

A Massachusetts State Police trooper walked the jury through the hours after Lindsay Clancy arrived at South Shore Hospital today, and it sounded less like a hospital admission and more like a custody transfer. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, is on trial for the January 24, 2023 deaths of her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” allegedly strangled with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her attorney Kevin Reddington is running an insanity defense built on claims of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Trooper Dan Lawlor testified he served an evidence preservation order at the hospital and personally collected Clancy's clothing and jewelry, along with additional evidence. On cross, he confirmed she arrived without shoes. Then came the line that reframes the whole scene: Lawlor said he was stationed there to "maintain custody" of Clancy, which meant no visitors β€” not her lawyer, not anyone β€” until a court order allowed a psychiatrist in to see her. A hospital room, sealed off by court order. Sit with that for a second.

Prosecutors maintain Clancy understood what she was doing regardless of her mental state. Clancy allegedly attempted suicide after the killings by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks.

Can Alex Murdaugh's Old Testimony Convict Him Twice? Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

There is a pretrial hearing coming in the Alex Murdaugh retrial, and a stack of new filings landed in front of Judge Debra McCaslin ahead of it. Tony Brueski works through the listener mail with Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and former chief of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program.

Not every motion matters equally, and separating the two is most of the work here. Pretrial practice in a case this size runs for months. A hearing can end with nothing settled and still tell you where a judge is leaning.

The filing with real reach is the one seeking to put Murdaugh's own sworn words in front of the second jury. He chose to take the stand in 2023. Nobody compelled him. If those words come in, his lawyers are building a defense around explaining them, whether or not he ever testifies again.

The rest tighten the edges. Two of them close doors the state already closed once, one asks for another look at the digital material, and one blocks a defense testing request.

Judge McCaslin has told the attorneys she knows nothing about the first trial and expects them to be thorough when they explain it. She tentatively set the retrial for April 5, 2027.

The South Carolina Supreme Court threw out Murdaugh's convictions over what the clerk of court told jurors. He is presumed innocent at the retrial and has denied the killings throughout. He stays behind bars either way, serving concurrent state and federal financial crime sentences of twenty-seven and forty years.

Robin Dreeke takes the mailbag on what is procedural, what is decisive, and how to tell the two apart before April.

Did Anyone Ever Tell Lindsay Clancy's Doctors She Called? Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

Both of the psychiatrists the prosecution has called in the Lindsay Clancy trial are also named defendants in the medical malpractice litigation over her care. Tony Brueski takes listener questions to Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and former chief of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program.

That is an unusual position for a witness. Each is testifying that she saw no signs of psychosis, while separately defending a civil claim that she missed exactly that condition.

Dr. Jennifer Tufts told the court directly that she does not believe she was negligent. Under cross-examination she was asked about her experience level. She had completed her psychiatric residency in July 2022 and joined a private practice the month before Clancy became her patient.

Dr. Alia Goodheart, questioned about her own background, said she does not think she has treated a patient with postpartum psychosis. She described Clancy as future-oriented, invested in her children, and a caring mother.

Both suits, one filed by Lindsay and one by Patrick, name providers involved in her treatment. Those providers deny negligence, dispute what Clancy reported to them, and have moved to dismiss.

The question this segment keeps returning to is a real one. A jury weighing whether a condition existed is hearing that answer from people with a stake in the answer, and juries are not always told what that stake is.

The charges are three counts of first-degree murder. Clancy pleaded not guilty. She is presumed innocent. Prosecutors argue her providers bear no blame for what happened.

Robin Dreeke handles the mailbag on credibility, incentive and what a jury does with any of it. 988 is there if you need it.

Why Patrick Clancy Is Suing Lindsay's Doctors Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

True Crime Today digs into the Lindsay Clancy civil lawsuit and the reason her ex-husband is suing her providers instead of her. According to the complaint filed in Norfolk Superior Court, the people treating Lindsay's postpartum mental illness misprescribed a bevy of powerful medications and stacked new drugs onto old ones without any connecting plan. The civil filings count nine psychiatric medications in her final months, eight of them inside a single three-week stretch, while her criminal defense team counts 13. The suits say Lindsay repeatedly told her providers the medications were causing her worsening symptoms. She went to emergency rooms, called crisis lines, and admitted herself to hospitals. The basic lab work that would have shown how her body was processing the drugs was never done, the filings claim. Lindsay's own separate malpractice suit goes further, naming 11 defendants including McLean Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital. It describes a program staffed by a skeleton crew over a holiday, and it discloses a bipolar diagnosis made after the killings by a Columbia University psychiatrist. Tony breaks down both filings, the difference between what a civil jury and a criminal jury must find, and the collision coming when one verdict arrives before the other. The providers' employers have responded with statements, not specifics, and nothing in either lawsuit has been proven. Lindsay Clancy is presumed innocent in her criminal case, where prosecutors allege the killings were planned and her illness has been overstated. The reason Patrick Clancy went to civil court is written across every page of his complaint, and it points at the same system his ex-wife's defense is blaming at trial. Read the trial through the lawsuit and the whole picture sharpens.

Nancy Guthrie's Ransom Letters And Lindsay Clancy's Courtroom Surprise Aug 12, 2026
    Show notes

Two cases with nothing in common except the grip they hold on this audience: the Nancy Guthrie disappearance and the Lindsay Clancy murder trial. Tony Brueski and retired FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke give both a full listener-question treatment in one extended session.

The Guthrie letters, public since July 31, supply half the questions. The abandoned $4 million demand. The claim that an 84-year-old grandmother is buried in nature. The apology to her children, and a sheriff whose denial of the note's existence lasted exactly one day. The Clancy trial supplies the rest. A prosecution whose witnesses keep humanizing the defendant. Pill bottles counted out like evidence for both sides at once. And the online movement that built a case against Patrick Clancy out of a verified alibi and a grieving man's composure.

Robin's career was reading people who lie for a living. That makes him the right analyst for an unidentified letter writer and a theory that outlives its own debunking. However deep you are into either case, this session will take you deeper.

Anna Kepner's Accused Killer Received WHAT?! Aug 11, 2026
    Show notes

After Anna Kepner died on a Carnival cruise ship, her stepmother made a decision that says everything. She sent her son, Timothy Hudson, to live with a relative, and per People magazine's reporting, the stated purpose was removing any risk of danger to the other children in the home. Read that timing carefully. The household measured a teenager as a possible threat to kids and acted on it, once the one who allegedly warned everyone was already gone.

Hudson, sixteen, was indicted as an adult in Anna's death and pleaded not guilty. He's presumed innocent, and a September trial will decide his case. What the trial can't decide is the question this True Crime Today episode puts on the table: what do we owe the adults who were allegedly told, in detail, and chose comfort over action?

The newest court filings sharpen it. Federal prosecutors have delivered Anna's complete Snapchat extraction, FBI investigative reports, and grand jury materials to the defense, sealed under a protective order, meaning the last words this eighteen-year-old ever typed are working evidence in her accused killer's file. Meanwhile the custody fight between Hudson's parents has spilled texts into the record, including a 32-hour delay before his father even learned Anna was dead.

Stack the alleged pre-cruise warnings against the government's claim that this happened without any warning, add a judge's detention order invoking psychopathy, and one conclusion becomes hard to escape. Somebody could see it. The episode makes the case that pretending otherwise should start carrying a price, and Anna Kepner's story is where that argument begins.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Records Say One Thing, the Nurse Practitioner Says Another Aug 11, 2026
    Show notes

The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy took a sharp turn today when psychiatric nurse practitioner Rebecca Jollotta, certified by Postpartum Support International, testified about a phone call that β€” according to her β€” never happened. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication, led by attorney Kevin Reddington.

Jollotta told the court she saw Clancy just three times and eventually referred her to a program at Women & Infants Hospital. What happened after that, she said, she couldn't say β€” she never found out how the hospital assessed Clancy or why she wasn't admitted. That's where Reddington zeroed in, asking whether Jollotta knew the rejection stemmed from excessive medication, then reading a Women & Infants record stating the hospital had reached out to her and gotten no response. Jollotta flatly disputed that β€” she said she never spoke to Women & Infants, period. She also pushed back on any suggestion Clancy was chasing prescriptions, testifying she was trying to get off medication, not accumulate it, and noted she's personally treated five patients with postpartum psychosis, where hearing voices and visual hallucinations are documented symptoms.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to last several weeks.

Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapper Made Her Family One Promise Aug 11, 2026
    Show notes

The letters at the center of the Nancy Guthrie disappearance are public at last, and they raise more questions than the six months of silence that preceded them. Tony Brueski and retired FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke take on the listener mailbag for the case that has gripped the country since an 84-year-old mother vanished from her Tucson home.

The first note promised her safe return for $4 million in Bitcoin and carried details from inside the house to prove itself. The second withdrew everything β€” no demand, no negotiation, just a claim that Nancy perished shortly after she was taken and a wish that her children find peace. Retired FBI agents told CBS News that people motivated by money don't abandon $4 million, and that one writer likely produced both letters. Meanwhile the sheriff's own words the day before the release, and a Wall Street Journal accounting of the investigation's early missteps, have listeners asking who exactly is in control of this case.

From the daughter worried about her own mother living alone to the question of what the renewed search behind Nancy's home really means, these are the eight questions this case comes down to.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Weekly Visits Ordered as Nurse Practitioner Feared for Her Safety Aug 11, 2026
    Show notes

Testimony resumed today from Rebecca Jollotta, the psychiatric nurse practitioner certified by Postpartum Support International, in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense centered on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Coming out of the morning recess, Jollotta detailed an extended thread of MyChart messages with Clancy, part of a pattern of communication that stretched well beyond the office visits. She told jurors that at a December 6, 2022 appointment attended by both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy, she floated the possibility of an underlying bipolar disorder. Jollotta said her concern for Clancy's mental health was significant enough that she wanted to be seeing her weekly β€” and that Lindsay had reported suicidal ideation, though notably never on the days Jollotta actually examined her.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick Clancy was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to run several more weeks.

Lindsay Clancy's Doctor Never Asked Her To Sign THIS Aug 11, 2026
    Show notes

The most damaging hours of the Lindsay Clancy murder trial belonged to her own defense attorney on Day 10. Then the prosecution took the exact same testimony and turned it around.

Kevin Reddington spent the morning at Plymouth Superior Court walking Dr. Jennifer Tufts through everything she did not have. No file from the perinatal clinic her patient was attending. No conversation with the family. No signed authorization that would have unlocked either. Tufts, who is a named defendant in a malpractice claim over this care, told the jury she did not believe she had been negligent.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague began her redirect by asking Tufts to describe what psychosis looks like in an appointment, then asked whether she had ever seen any of it in Lindsay Clancy. Tufts answered no. She said she saw no mania either, and described the presentation as the opposite.

Sprague then built out the state's theory. Clancy scheduled her own appointments. She took herself to an emergency room without being sent. She reported her medications and her reactions to them with precision. On the family question, Sprague established that federal privacy law barred Tufts from calling relatives at all.

One more detail landed for the prosecution. Clancy reported on January 16, 2023 that she had to force herself out of bed, and Tufts testified she had no idea her patient had taken the children to the Museum of Science days earlier.

Tony lays out both readings of the same day and where the afternoon witness leaves them.

Clancy is presumed innocent of the charges against her and has pleaded not guilty. No verdict has been returned.
