Lindsay Clancy Trial: Mother-in-Law's Testimony and the Question Judge Sullivan Struck Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

Susan Clancy, Patrick Clancy's mother, took the stand today in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She has pleaded not guilty and is mounting an insanity defense, with attorney Kevin Reddington arguing she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication at the time of the killings.

Susan Clancy testified that her daughter-in-law came to her struggling with anxiety, depression, and sleeplessness, and asked for help finding a doctor β€” not the picture of a woman hiding what was happening to her. She described Lindsay as a mother who loved and adored her kids. Under cross-examination, prosecutors pressed on an ER visit for anxiety and insomnia, and on medications Susan Clancy admitted even she found confusing to manage. Then came a question that never should have made it out of the prosecutor's mouth β€” asking whether Susan Clancy knew murder is considered a mortal sin under Catholic doctrine. Judge William Sullivan called an immediate sidebar and struck it from the record. On redirect, jurors heard that Lindsay had been turned away from a treatment program for being overmedicated, and that she'd called a suicide hotline twice before January 24.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. She allegedly attempted suicide afterward by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court.

Mangione Confessed in Open Court and Walked Away With THIS Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

Luigi Mangione confessed in federal court on August 14 to shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. He pleaded guilty to two counts of interstate stalking resulting in death. The federal murder charge had already been dismissed. No deal was offered.

Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Tony Brueski on True Crime Today to analyze the plea and the defense strategy surrounding it.

Mangione outlined his planning for the court. He emailed UnitedHealthcare pretending to manage a fund worth more than fifty billion dollars. The company sent back the conference location within an hour. He traveled to New York, positioned himself outside the venue, and shot Thompson from behind as the CEO walked toward the event.

His attorneys filed to dismiss the New York state murder charges on double jeopardy grounds the same day. State jury selection had been set for September 8. The defense asked for the federal hearing three days prior.

Mangione's sentencing date is December 18. The court cited guidelines of twenty-four to thirty years, though prosecutors have publicly announced they want life. He is twenty-eight, putting even the low end of the range past his fiftieth birthday.

Since his arrest, Mangione has beaten terrorism charges when a judge ruled the evidence insufficient and avoided a federal murder conviction entirely. Coffindaffer examines what this trajectory tells an investigator, whether the double jeopardy motion has legal merit, and whether a system that started with a death-penalty-eligible case and ended with a stalking conviction has been outplayed.

Tony Brueski and retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer.

Lindsay Clancy's Nurse Practitioner Had No Idea About THIS Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

Lindsay Clancy saw her psychiatrist fourteen times in four months. Her nurse practitioner, who was also prescribing her medications, had no knowledge of those visits. When Clancy checked herself into a locked psychiatric unit, neither outpatient provider was notified.

Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins Tony Brueski on True Crime Today to cover what these provider coordination failures mean in a case where three children β€” Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months β€” are dead.

The trial at Plymouth Superior Court is in its third week. Testimony has shown Clancy searched "hallucinations" on her phone five days before January 24, 2023. She messaged providers that she felt completely hopeless and was experiencing unfamiliar intrusive thoughts. A postpartum treatment program she reached out to declined to accept her because of the number of medications she was already taking.

Peer-reviewed literature documents postpartum psychosis as a rare condition β€” roughly one in every thousand births β€” with a four percent infanticide rate. Clancy's defense argues she was in the grip of that condition. The prosecution argues she was deliberate.

Clancy attempted to end her own life immediately after. She jumped from a window and shattered her spine. She is permanently paralyzed. Coffindaffer covers what a jury does with evidence of a suicide attempt that severe, what it means that the system she was begging for help had no internal communication, and how an investigator reads the gap between a mother who planned a killing and a mother who could not stop one.

Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty. She is presumed innocent.

Tony Brueski and retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer.

John-Paul Miller Preached a Full Sermon Before Saying a Word About Mica Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

On the morning after Mica Miller's death, her husband John-Paul Miller didn't call a press conference or issue a statement to his congregation. He preached a full Sunday service at Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach. He talked about taking a break. Then, at the very end, he mentioned that his wife was dead. He called it "self-induced." He told the congregation not to talk about it inside the church. Then he walked off the stage.

The federal indictment that followed β€” filed December 2025 β€” alleges Miller ran a seventeen-month cyberstalking campaign against Mica while serving as her pastor and her husband. Prosecutors describe tracking devices, an intimate photograph distributed without consent, daily harassment exceeding fifty contacts, and interference with her finances and daily life. Mica filed eight police complaints. She went through two divorce filings. Miller held healthcare power of attorney over the woman accusing him of the conduct.

Miller's history runs deeper than one marriage. His father Reginald built a church empire in the Lowcountry and lost it to four federal felony convictions involving forced labor of foreign students. Two civil lawsuits filed in 2025 name both father and son and allege both used their churches to target minors. Miller's first wife stated in a divorce affidavit that he'd confessed a prostitution addiction to his own congregation.

After Mica died, witnesses saw Miller drinking at a bar with congregant Suzie Skinner four days later. Her previous husband β€” a paralyzed Army veteran β€” had drowned after confronting Miller about an affair. Miller married Suzie with armed guards thirteen months after Mica's death. His trial has been delayed to October 2026. Netflix's "Death of the Pastor's Wife" premieres August 26.

Why Lindsay Clancy's Trial Changed This Week Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

The prosecution's psychiatrist contradicted her own medical records. The defendant sobbed and told the courtroom she couldn't continue during autopsy testimony. Some jurors cried. And a conspiracy theory accusing Patrick Clancy of framing his wife persists despite having no foundation in the trial evidence.

All of it happened this week inside Plymouth Superior Court during the Lindsay Clancy murder trial. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She admits to killing them. The defense argues postpartum psychosis and overmedication. The prosecution says she acted intentionally.

Criminal defense trial attorney Bob Motta of Defense Diaries was in the courtroom. He covers the Commonwealth's witness problem and the emotional toll of the autopsy testimony on everyone in that room. He also examines why Patrick Clancy β€” a man treated as a grieving father inside the courtroom β€” is being tried on TikTok.

Alex Murdaugh's Hearing Left His Prosecutor Saying He Didn't Know Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

Creighton Waters communicates with SLED daily. On August 14, he stood in a Lexington courtroom and admitted he had never heard of a possible connection between weapons from an Allendale County homicide and the firearms tied to the Murdaugh murders. The claim came from Murdaugh's defense team, not from the state's own investigators. McCaslin told the defense the claim raised her eyebrows. That admission followed a hearing stacked with prosecution setbacks. Judge McCaslin pulled the retrial out of Colleton County and the surrounding judicial circuit, where three generations of Murdaughs ran the local prosecutor's office. She gave the defense access to fingernail DNA from Maggie Murdaugh for its own lab analysis, overruling the state's argument that the evidence contained nothing new. She allowed conditional use of Murdaugh's prior testimony but restricted it to his statements about the night Maggie and Paul were killed.McCaslin assumed personal responsibility for building the jury pool after defense attorney Dick Harpootlian asked when Becky Hill's tampering influence on the first jury actually began. Hill, the former Colleton County clerk, pleaded guilty to perjury and obstruction.Murdaugh, who has pleaded not guilty, appeared unshackled and in a suit for the first time since his November 2023 financial crimes sentencing. His defense has a pending motion asking McCaslin to dismiss the murder indictments based on alleged fabrication of blood evidence by SLED's lead case agent. The prosecution has not yet responded. The next hearing is November 14 and the retrial is set for April 5, 2027.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Doctor Says Her Injuries Weren't Staged β€” They Were Real Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

An ER physician testified today that Lindsay Clancy's own body told the story prosecutors have spent months disputing. Dr. Michael Vulfovich, called as an expert witness for the defense, reviewed her medical records and told jurors her injuries were consistent with a genuine suicide attempt. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is on trial for the murders of her three children β€” 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan β€” who prosecutors allege she strangled with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation and has pleaded not guilty. Her defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, rests on an insanity claim built around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Vulfovich didn't stop at the fall itself. He told jurors that later in her treatment, Clancy coded and had to receive a blood transfusion just to survive β€” a detail that underscores how close the case came to having one fewer person in the courtroom to stand trial at all.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to last several weeks.

Patrick Clancy Lost Three Children And TikTok Blames Him Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

Patrick Clancy testified for two days at Plymouth Superior Court about finding the bodies of his three children. He was cross-examined by both sides. Neither accused him of killing anyone. Both treated him as a father whose children were taken from him.

TikTok has a different version. A conspiracy theory with millions of views says Patrick strangled his own children and pushed his wife from a second-story window to cover it up. The theory's key evidence is that someone changed shoes.

Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She admits to the killings. Her defense attorney Kevin Reddington says she was in a postpartum psychotic state. Patrick has since remarried and has a new baby. People online treat his ability to move forward as evidence of guilt.

Bob Motta of Defense Diaries was in the courtroom watching all of it. He examines what the trial evidence actually reveals about Patrick, why the conspiracy collapses under facts, and what drives an audience to invent an alternate killer when a mother admits she took her children's lives.

Lindsay Clancy's Mother Knew in December β€” Why Didn't She Call for Help Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

There's a moment in every trial like this where the questions stop being about the defendant and start being about everyone around her. This week, that moment belonged to Paula Musgrove, Lindsay Clancy's mother. On the stand, Musgrove admitted Lindsay told her β€” and told her husband Patrick β€” back in early-to-mid December 2022 that she was having thoughts of harming her three children. That's roughly six weeks before three-year-old Dawson, five-year-old Cora, and seven-month-old Callan were allegedly strangled with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

What Musgrove did with that information is now part of the record: nothing. No push to get Lindsay committed. No 911 call. Prosecutors introduced text messages between the two women covering Lindsay's sleep, her state of mind, her day-to-day activities β€” and Musgrove testified she kept her responses upbeat on purpose, choosing encouragement over confrontation because her daughter was already struggling.

Clancy, 34, faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, and has pleaded not guilty. Attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense centered on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication, and testimony establishing that Lindsay voiced these thoughts weeks in advance cuts both ways β€” evidence of a documented mental health crisis, or evidence she understood what she was contemplating. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband Patrick was out running errands during the killings and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several more weeks.

How Postpartum Psychosis Hid Inside Lindsay Clancy's Life Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

Three healthy kids. A nursing career. A husband who worked from home. From the outside, Lindsay Clancy had everything the culture tells a new mother she should be grateful for. From the inside, she was writing journal entries about drowning. She told her NP she'd "try anything." She told her husband she was having thoughts she'd never had before. She went to emergency rooms, a specialty postpartum program, and a locked psychiatric ward. The system's answer was thirteen medications from five prescribers in four months, none of whom coordinated her care. When Women & Infants Hospital in Rhode Island allegedly said the drugs were the problem, the prescribing provider never returned their call, according to the defense. This episode follows the months before January 24, 2023, through Lindsay's own words read at trial in Plymouth Superior Court and Patrick Clancy's testimony about watching his wife disappear into a condition nobody around her could identify. He testified the day three children died was "one of her best days." Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty. Her defense alleges postpartum psychosis.
