At least until 8 years later when a new detective decides to take another look at the case, but was Curtis still being wrongly accused?

Curtis Lovelace, was eventually charged with the murder of his wife, Cory, and his first trial was labeled a mistrial. Curtis got another trial, and this time things were different… But what really happened?

#279 American Animals Jun 20, 2025

Show notes

Four students hatched a plan to steal some very rare books and it became known as the Transylvania University heist in 2004, or Transy Book Heist. The plan was to break into the school's Special Collection in the Rare Books Room, swipe the books and sell them for millions of dollars….easy peasy. But of course things didn't quite go all Oceans 11, but the heist did inspire its own docu-movie!

Today we’re talkin’ the story of Andrew Carter Thornton II and his drug smuggling shenanigans. How exactly this cop turned into a drug smuggler in the first place, and how the hell we’re gonna end up on “cocaine bear”, I have no idea. Let’s head back to the 80’s! Also this was made into a movie in 2023, just fyi.

#277 Going Postal May 29, 2025

Show notes

A mail carrier in trouble with his supervisors opened fire in a crowded post office on August 21st 1986, killing 14 workers and injuring 7 others before killing himself with a bullet in the head. The police said the carrier, Patrick Henry Sherrill, of Oklahoma City, burst into post office around 6:45 A.M., pulled at least three pistols from a mail pouch and, without a word, started shooting at his fellow employees.

It was the nation's worst shooting since July 18, 1984, when 21 people, including the gunman, died at a McDonald's restaurant in San Ysidro, California, and it helped coin the term "going postal".
