#288 The Babysitter Sep 18, 2025

Show notes

You know the movie When a Stranger Calls? The one about the babysitter who receives a creepy phone call, and the call is coming from inside the house? Well, it was LOOSELY, based on a true story. There have been countless stories, and probably even more film depictions of a teenage girl hired to babysit, and after the children have been put to bed, the babysitter is alone, watching a movie, doing homework, on the phone with a boyfriend, whatever.

Then the phone rings, the caller asks, something along the lines of “have you checked on the children lately”, the babysitter is scared. She locks the door, turns on the light to see if anyone is there, nothing. She eventually calls the police and once the call is traced, she's told the call is coming from inside the house. None of that happened in this story, but somehow this is the source of the urban legend of the babysitter. This is the story of Janett Christman.

Intro Song: Fishtown by True Crime Guys (soon to be released on spotify)

Lyrics:

Verse 1

He was on his way to meet her

He didn’t know what to say

He wasn’t gonna mess this up

He just got paid

She was on her way to meet him

She knew just what to say

This wasn’t her first rodeo

And he just got paid.

Chorus:

With Friends like these

Its like placing bets

Welcome to Fishtown

Don’t get caught in the nets

With friends like these

You don’t get what you see

There’s sharks in Fishtown

They just look like teen(s)(agers)

Verse 2:

They stalked him in the shadows

It had to be today

Just before the drugs wear off

Their conscience fades away

And everything that’s left

Is sure to find a way

To make this feeling last

Just one more day
