263: Freestyle Friday | Five Elements of an Effective Reach Out Apr 26, 2019
    Show notes

In this latest episode of The Only Business Networking Podcast on iTunes, Your host Travis Chappell gives listeners a glimpse of what’s in his free Meet Your Hero course available at travischappell.com. Learn the five elements of an effective message to busy people and find out how Travis has been able to connect with high-level people so quickly. Episode Highlights: The five elements of an effective message to busy people: 1. Lead with value - mention something specific about them that impacted you. 2. Give information - you have a limited amount of words, give quick, pertinent info and hyperlink to your site. 3. Build a meaningful request - do not ask to “pick their brain.” 4. Offer credibility - give social proof and have someone’s name or a brand name next to yours. 5. “Thanks in advance” - This subconsciously creates a desire to finish the loop. 3 Key Points: Always be specific when reaching out to someone busy, they will know if you just copied and pasted info from their site. Never ask someone if you can “pick their brain” or how you can add value, that just adds homework to their plate. Always say “thanks in advance” to prompt someone to respond. Tweetable Quotes: “DO NOT ask someone if you can pick their brain for a while, or ask them what you can do that could add value to them.” -Travis “Figure out a way to add value to someone and then just do it.” -Travis “Recognizable names, words, and friends of people stand out.” -Travis “Check out the free meet your hero course at my website to get all my value pieces on this topic.” -Travis Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at https://www.travischappell.com (https://www.travischappell.com) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience). 262: Who or What Part 6 | Grant Cardone, Caleb Maddix and Jill Stanton Apr 24, 2019
    Show notes

In Part 6 of the Who or What Series, on The Only Business Networking Podcast on iTunes, Grant Cardone a New York Times Bestselling author and real estate mogul who’s affected hundreds of billions of dollars in sales, Caleb Maddix, a 16 year old millionaire and bestselling author and Jill Stanton from Screw the Nine to Five, talk to your host Travis Chappell about whether who or what you know is more important, and why they feel that way. Episode Highlights: Grant Cardone Connections accellerate everything. How Grant did networking incorrectly in the beginning. If you are committed to greatness and making other people great it edifies you. When Grant wrote a check to Mandalay Bay for $4 million dollars, he provided speakers with a built-in audience. Flow power to power. The guy that helps broken people over and over is broken, you want to help people who are helping themselves. #1 networking tip - make a list of who you want to connect with. Don’t just go get a job, go work for someone. Jill Stanton Jill tells a story of when a connection led to a moment of success. How far behind Jill would be in her business without her mentors. Why Jill thinks people network with the wrong motives. It creates a more genuine relationship with people when you focus on the relationship. Caleb Maddix Caleb’s dad was always pushing him out of his comfort zone. You’ll never get to know the who, if you don’t know the what of how to do it. How important it is to associate with people who are a few levels up from you. Getting around the right people is important because of who you become by associating with them. The best way to get out of an awkward conversation. Never apologize for approaching someone, shake their hand and ask a unique question. Have confidence, respect, and hunger. 3 Key Points: You need money, connections, and support, you can’t get places on your own. When you’re networking, don’t prioritize the ask, prioritize the relationships. You won’t get to know the “who” if you don’t have a “what.” Tweetable Quotes: “Connections accelerate everything, if you’re not first you’re last.” -Grant Cardone “You need to eat with kings and queens and power players.” -Grant Cardone “A network with a bunch of weak people is not a network.” -Grant Cardone “I know that relationships pay off, it’s happened for me many times.” -Jill Stanton “You have to get through the pain to get the prize.” -Caleb Maddix “When you learn how to do something the right way, you can be around anyone you want.” -Caleb Maddix “You don’t have to be a celebrity or influencer to be a successful, important person.” -Matt Maddix Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at Join the Build Your Network Facebook group http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/ (BYN.media/fb) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience). Episode Highlights: Dean Graziosi You need to put out into the world good intention expecting nothing in return. If you want to learn how to network, learn the art of reciprocity. Deans story of providing value to Ariana Huffington, Tony Robbins, and Richard Branson. The who won’t come unless you know the what. Kerri Kasem How Kerri became a UFC ring girl and got to work with Dana White. Why Kerri believes that people give up so quickly. The difference between getting a “no” from someone you respect vs. the average guy. People take it too seriously when someone says no to them. What you know you can share with others and help them. Who you know is great, but what you know is who you are and what you’re affecting. Chris Harder If you have a heart of service you’ll never want for anything. Chris tells a story about when a connection led to a moment of success. People neglect to network because it’s outside of their comfort zone. Confidence is not something you’re born with, it’s something you develop. 3 Key Points: You need to change your thought process to be “how can I give” instead of “what can I get.” You have to find creative ways to get around hurdles, a “no” is just a life game. Being an introvert is not a barrier to good networking. Tweetable Quotes: “If you want to learn how to network, learn the art of reciprocity.” -Dean Graziosi “I don’t consider people’s no’s, that just means I need to get creative.” -Kerri Kasem “You have to know the right people and be of great service to those people.” -Chris Harder “Ask yourself what you’re afraid of, then ask yourself why.” -Chris Harder Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at https://www.travischappell.com (https://www.travischappell.com) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience). Three quick lessons Travis has been learning in preparing to be a dad: Good things are always on the other side of fear. The process is strengthening his “why” to a level its never been at before. Life happens fast so get started on your dreams right now. Travis and his wife have moved seven times and taken several career shifts. The death of Travis’ friend recently hit him hard and he’s realizing how fast life goes. If you’re doing something right now that you don’t want to be doing, why are you doing it? Travis is thinking of starting a YouTube channel with real and raw dad moments - let him know your thoughts! 3 Key Points: 1. It’s starting to hit home that Travis is going to be a dad soon. 2. Taking big risks is important and it would be easy to not take those risks with a new baby. 3. If you’re doing something you don’t want to be doing, ask yourself why you’re doing it. Tweetable Quotes: “My wife and I are going to have a baby, due in May!” -Travis “I can see why people are less willing to take risks when they have a new baby, but it’s still important.” -Travis “Understand that you’re going to mess up a lot, that’s part of being a parent.” -Travis “Nothing makes me want to not give up on my dreams more than having a son.” -Travis “Ask yourself what you can do to get started right now to make your dreams happen.” -Travis Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at https://www.travischappell.com (https://www.travischappell.com) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience). 256: Who or What Part 4 | Jack Canfield, Brad Lea, and Angie Lee Apr 10, 2019
    Show notes

In Part 4 of the Who or What Series Jack Canfield, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, Brad Lea from Lightspeed VT, and Angie Lee from the Angie Lee Show talk to your host Travis Chappell about whether who you know or what you know is more important. Jack Canfield Jack is not a natural networker, but he learned early on that who you know is the most important thing. Both who and what you know are important, but you need to know something of value. Know your craft and keep getting better at it. If no one knows you’re good at something, it’s useless - market yourself! If you’re not compassionate and caring, people will not want to work with you. Brad Lea What and who you know is equally important. If you have the what without the who and the who without the what then you’re ill-prepared for success. If you don’t know anything, a relationship is not as valuable as it could be. If you already have a good, solid what, then double down on the who. Angie Lee There are a lot of really smart people out there who are not successful because they don’t make connections. You have to ask for what you want and show up. Most jobs are gained by referral, not resume. Angie talks about how a connection has led to a moment of success. 3 Key Points: 1. Whenever you go somewhere, act like a host. 2. If you know nothing, then it doesn’t matter who you know. 3. It’s a blend of knowledge, networking, and asking for what you want and showing up. Tweetable Quotes: “Provide more value to the people you’re working with, and figure out how to reach more people to provide value to.” -Jack Canfield “I know a lot of people, and it doesn’t help me knowing anybody unless I have the what.” -Brad Lea “With everything in life it’s who you know that gets you ahead.” -Angie Lee “I want to be around who I can trust, so it’s all about who you know.” -Angie Lee Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/ (BYN.media/fb) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience).
