Ep. 388: Chris Gethard on Dominik “Dom Dom” Mysterio Mar 02, 2024

Show notes

We’ve got brand new merch available! Go to the MaxFun Store and get the latest Ice Cream Christmas shirt in time for WrestleMania weekend.

Get down with Dom Dom! It’s a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

We’re joined this week by Chris Gethard. He’s a comedian and longtime wrestling fan who’s new book is entitled Dad at Peace. He’ll tell us stories about becoming friends with Sami Zayn and hanging out backstage at wrestling shows.

This past weekend, Perth, Australia hosted Elimination Chamber, the final PLE before WrestleMania. The responses were middling, but the event did succeed in setting up the WWE’s biggest show of the year. The team discusses their opinions on why every match was at least worth watching on Saturday.

Plus, a love tribute to Virgil, an underrated wrestling icon of a bygone era.

The Main Event

Ever since his WWE debut, Dominik Mysterio was dismissed as little more than a nepo baby hire. And these days he arguably gets more heat than anyone else in the company BECAUSE he's a nepo baby hire! And a goth!

The Three Count

Julian put over a shoutout to the naysayers.

Lindsey put over the OK show.

Hal put over Regals original entrance music (perfect for a custom WWE 2K theme).

Hosted by Hal Lublin and Lindsey Kelk

Rerun: WrestleMania 33 Feb 24, 2024

Show notes

This episode originally aired 2018

The team revisits WrestleMania 33. An event that was mostly forgettable, but had a lasting impact on the modern landscape of wrestling.

Bear witness to such matches as Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho-- a match that Vince McMahon hated and that lead to Jericho leaving WWE and appearing in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Plus, Roman Reigns becomes just the second man to defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania. And in perhaps the most surprising Mania return ever: The Hardyz return to WWE and win the RAW tag team championships.

Ep. 387: Heel Rock with LaToya Ferguson Feb 17, 2024

Show notes

Rocky’s gone to the dark side! We’ll discuss it all on a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

LaToya Ferguson is a writer and podcaster who rejoins the show after an extended absence. We’re in the final days before Elimination Chamber, the last show before WrestleMania.

We’ll discuss everything from the increased focus on tag teams in WWE, Bayley’s relationship with Dakota Kai and how to properly balance watching wrestling with your mother and dog.

The Main Event

After a chaotic week deciding the main event of WrestleMania 40, not only does Cody have his match back. But for the first time in over a decade, the Rock is officially a heel. Latoya was actually involved in the "WWE Evil," a series that took a look back on the bad guys in wrestling. So what better person to talk about Rocky's return to the dark side and where he stacks up with the villains of the past.

The Three Count

LaToya put over Queen Aminata.

Lindsey put over Rhea Ripley trending in two companies.

Hal put over they're in the judgment day.

Ep. 386: The Main Event of WrestleMania XL Feb 10, 2024

Show notes

What a chaotic week for wrestling, and this time it was for reasons that are more fun to talk about–so let’s do just that on a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

There were some fun wrestling developments: The tag titles are getting a lot of love. Bayley will face Iyo Sky for the WWE women’s championship. But we know what everyone REALLY wants to talk about…

The Main Event

When Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row, it was heavily implied that he would take on Roman Reigns to try and finish the story at WrestleMania in Philadelphia. But Cody would surprise everyone on Smackdown by saying that WrestleMania was NOT where he would face Roman, but that he got in contact with The Rock to "take everything" away from the champion.

We're recording this on Friday. Thursday was WWE big play to pivot at their WrestleMania kick off event in Las Vegas. The Rock played up his family ties, his heeldom and his alliance with Roman Reigns… And Cody reversed course and chose Roman as his opponent at WrestleMania.

The Three Count

Danielle put over believing in Batista.

Lindsey put over Bayley deserving respect as the rumble winner.

Hal put over Brody Lee Jr. learning to wrestle.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Ep. 385: The 2023 Royal Rumble & The End of Vince McMahon Feb 02, 2024

Show notes

It was an absolutely massive Royal Rumble weekend— and it had relatively little to do with the wrestling itself. We’ll talk about it all on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Cody Rhodes and Bayley are the winners of the 2023 rumbles. Cody gets a chance to finally finish his story while Bayley gets the singles showcase that she earned years ago.

The women’s rumble kicked off the show and had tons of surprises. Jordynne Grace came out with the TNA Knockouts championship belt in tow; Naomi made her long-awaited return; and Jade Cargill finally debuted.

The men’s rumble was comparatively light on surprises; that probably has to do with the fact that it was heavily reworked in light of the massive news from the Wall Street Journal. Speaking of which…

The Main Event

Vince McMahon has once again left WWE. After details of his harassment lawsuit were published in the Wall Street Journal in 2022, he left the company only to force his way back in the following year. Last Thursday even more horrific details were published in a follow-up story. We discuss everything that we saw in the report and how WWE handled it breaking on one of their biggest weekends of the year.

The Three Count

Danielle put over Paddington in the Rumble.

Lindsey put over anything from R-Truth.

Hal put over one specific instance from R-Truth.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Ep. 384: The 2018 Royal Rumble Jan 27, 2024

Show notes

Note: This episode was recorded BEFORE the article about Vince McMahon was published in the Wall Street Journal

It’s Royal Rumble weekend and it’s time to celebrate on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

There’s a lot of changes coming to WWE near the end of the year. We already knew about Smackdown moving to USA Network and NXT moving to the CW. Now we’ve learned that RAW will make the jump to Netflix. We’ll discuss what this means for us.

The Main Event

2018 was a massive Royal Rumble: Shinsuke Nakamura’s biggest win ever! Asuka wins the first ever women’s Rumble! Ronda Rousey debuts in WWE! We were excited about two of those. In a segment previously recorded in 2018, Hal, Danielle, Lindsey and Mike Eagle discuss the event.

The Three Count

Lindsey put over Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins on GQ.

Julian put over the new era of TNA.

Danielle put over refs in the new WWE 2K24 videogame.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.
