Tights and Fights

Latest Episodes:

Ep. 399: WWF New York ft. Brenda Snell & Austin Taylor May 18, 2024

Show notes

Get those crowns shined up, it’s a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Danielle and Lindsey discuss which wrestlers have leveled up in the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.

Is Gunther destined to get a crown and be led to the ring on a little chariot? Why are we so confident that Ilja Dragunov will be fine despite losing to Jey Uso? And why would we be okay with Nia Jax finessing her way to a win in the finals?

Plus, we lament the fact that Logan Paul is still really good at wrestling and will probably have a great match with Cody Rhodes.

The Main Event

We’re joined by Brenda Snell and Austin Taylor, our friends from the MaxFun podcast “Secret Histories of Nerd Mysteries” to talk about one of the wildest WWE ventures of all time:

In 1999 Vince McMahon had a vision for a combination restaurant, retail store and night club in Times Square called WWF New York. It featured WWF music, memorabilia, PPVs… and was absolutely not long for this world since it shut down just under four years after it opened. WWE later opened a sister location called WWE Niagara Falls which was open from 2002 to 2011. They even recently had another go at the physical location for WWF, but you’ll have to visit Saudi Arabia to see it.

The Three Count

Lindsey put over Sami Zayn on Netflix is a Joke.

Julian put over Paper Mario (a secret wrestling game).

Danielle put over Macho Austin.

Hosted by Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk.

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Ep. 398: Backlash 2024 May 11, 2024

Show notes

C'est un nouvel épisode de Collants et combats!

Hal and Lindsey are joined by producer Julian to fill out third chair for the week.

This past weekend was Backlash, WWE’s first ever PLE live from Lyons France. The crowd was positively aching for wrestling and cemented themselves as one of the loudest in recent memory.

But in the aftermath, questions abound: With Tonga Loa now part of Solo Sikoa’s new Bloodline, where does the group go from here? And now that Cody Rhodes has gotten his first defense out of the way, what’s the next program to really cement him as the top guy in WWE?

Plus with King of the Ring now underway, we speculate what its essential function is in WWE these days.

The Three Count

Julian put over SGW’s recent Go Fund Me

Lindsey put over Sheamus vs. Gunther. Nuff said.

Hal put over Shayna Baszler's soup habit.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Lindsey Kelk and Julian Burrell

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 397: The Big Show vs. The Big Boss Man ft. Jamie Loftus May 04, 2024

Show notes

Happy Backlash weekend! The best way to celebrate is a new episode of Tights and Fights!

Hal, Danielle and Lindsey preview the card. But since it’s Backlash and is largely supposed to be a show that’s a little lower on the priority list, it’s quickly derailed by conversations of snacks.

But let’s not be too harsh: Bianca and Jade may be tag champions soon! Tiffany Stratton is back in the WWE title picture-but you know what? She probably has great taste in candy.

We’re also joined by comedian, author and podcaster Jamie Loftus. She’s written the book Raw Dog: The Naked Truth about Hotdogs and the newly launched podcast "Sixteenth Minute (of fame)." She also happens to be a huge fan of The Big Show, as she explained the last time she was on our show.

The Main Event

In 1999, The Big Show was the WWF champion. In the storyline, his father had just died. And the man who really had a problem with it was the Big Boss Man; he interrupted the ten bell salute, read a poem making fun of him and was a general menace for a few weeks.

The Three Count

Danielle put over Dwayne Johnson (allegedly) using bottles for bathrooms.

Lindsey put over a lil more wrestling x Taylor.

Hal put over obeying your parents.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Ep. 396: Steamboat vs. Savage at WrestleMania III ft. Dave Reuter Apr 27, 2024

Show notes

We’re throwing it back to an all-time classic wrestling match this week on Tights and Fights!

But first, Hal and Danielle take a special look at the state of WWE going into the Draft. Becky Lynch is now the Women’s World Champion after winning a battle royal on RAW. A safe choice… but was it the right one?

In addition to Becky, we have other champions to celebrate: Trick Williams is NXT champ! And Swerve Strickland got the AEW World title!

Chad Gable is fully heel now. What’s the next step to make sure he continues to ascend?

The Main Event

We’re joined by Dave Reuter. He’s an author whose latest book is Kayfabe: A Love Story. It’s filled with essays written in an alternate universe where wrestling and the stories it presents are 100% real.

The book has a lot of focus on WrestleMania III. That show was sold on Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant for the WWF Championship. But there was one match that stole the show that evening and had a lot of fans talking, even after Hogan slammed Andre: Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. Macho Man Randy Savage for the Intercontinental Championship.

The Three Count

Dave put over Savage vs. Warrior

Danielle put over @NorbertoGaetan.

Hal put over Taylor Swift x Wrestling.

Hosted by Hal Lublin and Danielle Radford.

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Ep. 395: The Future of NXT Apr 20, 2024

Show notes

Even in the aftermath of WrestleMania wrestling simply doesn’t stop on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Hal, Danielle and Lindsey mourn the loss of fallen Mami, Rhea Ripley. With the injury putting her out for several months, who will be the new Women’s World Champion? And does this mean that Liv Morgan finally gets an attitude to sink her teeth into?

Plus, Sami Zayn got quite a moment, with a grand Montreal entrance and a successful Intercontinental title defense. But when will Chad Gable and his new attitude get to wear the gold?

The Main Event

As WWE moves into a new era, NXT is also getting shuffled around a lot. With the draft coming up, a lot of stars from Tuesday will be moved up to the main roster; and there's even word that NXT may move into "third brand" territory once more.

The Three Count

Danielle put over the world coming to Nyla Rose’s defense.

Lindsey put over Sami’s hometown welcome.

Hal put over the spoils of Cody’s victory.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Dimitry Pompee

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Ep. 394: WrestleMania XL Apr 13, 2024

Show notes

Ice Cream Christmas has come at last– let’s talk all about WrestleMania on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Dimitry Pompee is from the podcast “Eurovangelists” and we were eager to welcome him back for the absent Lindsey Kelk. And there’s so much to talk about! Cody Rhodes has at last finished the story and become WWE Champion; Damian Priest and CM Punk made Drew McIntyre’s life a living hell this weekend. Bayley refused to let herself be overshadowed and finally had a great singles match at WrestleMania!

And yet amid our praise we also find things to criticize: Why is every faction in WWE based on race these days? What was the deal with that Jimmy and Jey match? And was the Undertaker really the best choice to confront the Rock?

The Three Count

Danielle put over Drew McIntyre’s new coach

Dimitry put over Stokely Hathaway on Soul Plane

Hal put over Roman not being a fan of the Cross Rhodes.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Dimitry Pompee

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 393: WrestleMania XL Preview Apr 06, 2024

Show notes

Hal, Lindsey and Julian sit at the precipice of Ice Cream Christmas on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

The overall card looks like WrestleMania XL will make for a fun two nights of wrestling; we discuss who we’d love to see win, which matches have been lacking and what we’re most looking forward to.

The Main Event: The Bloodline

The Rock is in full on Final Boss mode and that means that the Bloodline is bigger, better and badder than ever. Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes will all pull double duty this weekend, with the latter two main eventing nights one and two of WrestleMania.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Lindsey Kelk, and Julian Burrell

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 392: #MaxFunDrive - nWo ft. Dimitry Pompée Mar 25, 2024

Show notes

This podcast is brought to you by the #MaxFunDrive! Tights and Fights exists because of a fantastic group of MaxFun members who choose to support it with a recurring monthly contribution. Dimitry Popée is the host of the fantastic new MaxFun podcast “Eurovangelists,” which covers the famous song contest Eurovision. He’s a lifelong wrestling fan. He briefly stopped watching after Kurt Angle drove a milk truck on RAW– because frankly what could ever top that?

Dmitry eventually started watching WWE again after WrestleMania 32. These days he watches just about everything, including New Japan and AEW. He’ll tell us about why he doesn’t think Eurovision and the Royal Rumble are all that different.

The Main Event

WCW struck gold in 90s when it had Hulk Hogan turn heel and join Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to form the New World Order. And while the nWo fizzled in later years without a clear end game, its impact is still felt to this day.

The Three Count

Hal put over Roman Reigns’ Super Bowl Prediction.

Danielle put over Gypsie Rose Blanchard backstage at AEW.

Lindsey put over Drew’s tricep work out.

Dmitry put over Belanka.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford, Lindsey Kelk, and Julian Burrell

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.
