    Episode 227 : Reviewing Top Electric Motorcycles, Are They There Yet? May 15, 2020
    Show notes

    This week we are back at full force and back on the live stream! Chris got in some riding this week, but the rest of us have been sidelined.

    News: We discuss a recent review of some of the top electric motorcycles, the Energica, Livewire, and 2 Zero models. We discuss whether we are there yet with electric motorcycles. Nice to see that MV Agusta is trying to get manufacturing up and running now. More news about Norton, its demise and resurrection.

    Topic: Major news on the proper usage of thread lock. Larry and Tom independently decide that this article deserves serious consideration.

    Paddock: Larry reports on latest news and cancellations around MotoGP. No news on American Flat Track this week.

    Chris reports on his viewing previous MotoGP races, and MotoAmerica and World Superbike news.


    Episode 225 : Are You Trickling Your Batteries? May 11, 2020
    Show notes

    This week Kevin and Chris couldn't make it, however this episode is in the great hands of Larry and Tom. Larry describes a short, "necessary" ride to exercise his bike.

    News: Indian announces "home delivery" service Public Service Announcement about trickling batteries. Tom and Larry disagree about whether there are any exciting 2020 model motorcycles.

    Topic: Tom suggest the topic of why electric bikes don't seem to be produced by mainstream manufacturers yet.

    Larry points out that electric scooters are coming from the major companies (Yamaha, Vespa, BMW), but appearance in the U.S. maybe slower due to the limited market thus far. However, a large market in Europe is anticipated for electric scooters and that is where the introductions are happening.

    Paddock: Larry discusses the cancellation of the schedule for MotoGP. The virtual MotoGP's second iteration on Sunday, 04/12/20Finally an interesting review of why Marc Marquez is so dominant on the track

    Rides: We discuss our non-riding activities, except for, ahem, Chris who is keeping to his new years resolution to ride almost every day.

    Topic: Which leads to our topic of what riding we are doing during the coronavirus stay at home requirement/recommendation. We discuss the controversy about the AMA president's letter encouraging riding

    News: Larry continues to maintain that Niken's rock, but it has its limits. Honda may be marketing a road version of the Africa Twin, as well as possibly smaller displacement ADV bike in the near future, importance of DCT? Larry crows about the Russians developing a custom three wheeler for ice racing as evidence of the superiority of the 3 wheel configuration. Kevin dives deep into Kawasaki's direct injection engineering. Harley selling versions of their flat track bikes.

    Paddock: All races cancelled or postponed until further notice in AFT and MotoGP.

    Paddock: Disappointing news in the paddock. But, there is good video on MotoGP to fill some of the time. Larry also mentions an intriguing video series on Formula 1 on Netflix: Drive to Survive.

    Episode 220: Are Motorcycles Getting to Fancy? Mar 27, 2020
    Show notes

    In this, our 220th show, Kevin was unfortunately not present due to a respiratory illness. However we had Chris Geiss and Tom Ptashnik with us and they always make for an interesting show.

    Rides: Tom did a pretty challenging ride into the Georgia mountains after a recent snow, so over the gravel they throw on the road for icy conditions. Larry throws in the benefits of the Niken, and a discussion ensues. Chris did a couple of rides, one in the chill with heated gear and then talks about his trip to California with his partner, Gina. Meeting up with Larry in San Francisco for dinner. Larry didn't ride and gives lots of excuses, then talks about his insights around his electric bike. Tom admits he just ordered two electric bikes and a bike discussion ensues.

    News: We segue into an article about Energica selling more bikes in 2 months than all of last year and discuss whether this means electric bikes are turning the corner. Triumph's announcement about moving their manufacturing to Thailand and Brazil

    Larry couldn't resist the leaked pictures of the new BMW R18 bagger and cruiser. We discuss the benefits/drawbacks of baggers/cruisers. the article describes a Mission Impossible scenario.

    Topic: Are electronic riding aids unnecessary options or beneficial advances. Chris mentions Fast Eddie's current preference for a bike without technology. Tom likes the "whiz bang crap" on his BMW 1200 GS but too many settings may be a problem. Larry recalls incidents where the abs saved his bacon.

    Paddock: Chris reviews World Superbike news. Attempts to provide more variety (such as bagger racing) to appeal to more viewers. Chris reviews 1st World Superbike at Phillips Island Larry reports on the cancellations in MotoGP due to the corona virus pandemic and other MotoGP news.
