Those Conspiracy Guys — Comedy
Those Conspiracy Guys

Those Conspiracy Guys is a history, comedy and true crime podcast from Ireland produced and presented by Gordon Rochford and the topics discussed are varied and wide-ranging; from the speculations on the out-there conspiracy theories like aliens, time travel, and ancient civilisations to researched discussions on the more grounded, historical and provable conspiracies like political and financial corruption, scientific chicanery and secret government agency shenanigans.
In long-form group discussions; interviews with authors and experts; live stage shows and streams with an eager audience; and collaborations with other conspiracy creators; Gordo examines all the wildest notions and most unbelievable theories in the ever broadening genre of ‘conspiracy’. From the high-concept topics like inter-dimensional lizard men, complicated assassination plots and potential future technologies like alternative simulated universes; to the much more tangible topics like discussing serial killers and mysterious true crime cases; exploring the history of religions and cult leaders; and historically profiling the lives and times of some of the most influential people to have lived, and died.
Those Conspiracy Guys brings you on a light hearted and hilarious exploration of these fantastic stories through thoroughly researched and painstakingly contmeplated production; making it easy and fun for these sometimes heavy and complicated topics to be digested, with lashings of good old irreverend Irish craic from host Gordon Rochford and a cavalcade of hilarious comedians, committed creators and fabulously interesting guests.

Elvis Presley May 01, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we take a long look at the tragically short life of one of the most iconic and influential musicians and pop culture figures the world has ever seen, Elvis Presley. His swift rise to fame, his trailblazing musical style, his groundbreaking cultural impact and his untimely and world renowned death make the story of Elvis Presley, one everyone should know in its entirety.
Born into abject poverty in Tupelo Mississippi and spent his early years practically homeless and penniless. His mother Gladys took care of him and Elvis and his mother had an extremely close relationship. Her influence over him while she was alive and the grief and depression she left him in after her death, shaped Elvis career and relationships more than anyone could have imagined.
After shaking his wand on The Ed Sullivan show, Elvis exploded onto the scene with a new sound that ignited a frenzy in white America. This sound however, was claimed to have come from the black community and some claim Elvis and the people behind him appropriated black culture and stole this music. Sam Phillips at Sun Studios was the one to lay Elvis down on vinyl and he transcended popularity on country, R&B and main stream music charts all across America.
Elvis Presley 1968 Comeback SpecialUnder the yoke of the so called Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis' career was cut short somewhat, with a gruelling movie production schedule and a tour of duty in Germany for the US military taking him away from the music scene from the early 60s. He exploded back onto the scene with his 68 Comeback Special and his career was hitting the high notes once again.
After seemingly being exploited by Parker, and building up an expensive entourage and base of operations, Elvis was now locked into another harrowing performance schedule in Vegas and all over the US. Drugs and an extremely unhealthy lifestyle, coupled with pre-existing medical conditions left Elvis in the worst shape of his life.
At just 42 years of age, Elvis died in his Graceland home and the world mourned one of the most unique talents to ever walk the earth. Since his death rumours of sightings of Elvis, in real life and in TV and film, are peppered across the internet. Thousands claim to have concrete proof Elvis is alive and will be making another comeback any day now.
We take a look at all these aspects of The King of Rock and Roll and try to dispel some of the myths that surround his life. We also discuss the nature of his death and shed some light on some facts that have been overlooked by the collective unconscious.

HAARP and Weather Manipulation Apr 23, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we take a look at the invisible force that could be controlling our entire planet and the governmental and scientific levers that are being pulled to possibly manipulate the weather and take over the minds of the worlds population, The HAARP Program.
On the surface HAARP, or the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, seems to be just an innocent research endeavour of the University of Alaska; a magnetic array that has very similar counterparts in Europe, Russia and elsewhere on the globe. The dark military background to the technology behind the experiment and the allegations from the scientific and conpsiracy community however, tell a evry different story.
Some say that the weather can be manipulated by this magnetic array, and others even claim that by magnification of ultra low energy waves, the operators of this HAARP system can even trigger earthquakes.
We take a deep dive into the science behind the HAARP program and others of its kind, and swathe through the mysterious origins and bottemless funding this program has recieved. We talk about the possible irreversible destruction its use has on our planet and how governments quake at the threat of its implementation.

The Italian Mafia Mar 30, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we talk about one of the most renowned criminal organisations in the world, that went from a super secret cabal of career criminals to a star studded cavalcade of celebrity gangsters that were splashed across the pages of newspapers and whose stories lit up our cinema screens for the last 50 years, The Italian Mafia.
Starting from a small and poverty stricken gaggle of Sicilian local town stewards with a penchant for violence and way with coercion; The Cosa Nostra became one of the most powerful and politically influenctial gangs in the world. Their immigration from Italy to the United States and their keen business sense saw them take advantage of such economic US disasters as prohibition and the oil crisis to make their millions.
After a slew of rats, narcs and stoolies gave up the most sacred of information and broke the Omertà, the mafia code of silence, the common man got to peer deep into the inner workings of this previously sacred coven of ritual and military precision. The mob boss celebrities that came from this time in crime will be synonymous with brutality and ingenuity and their oppulent spending, gambling and business practices have been envied and even copied by some.
We also talk about how the US government wrote new laws and put many ineffectual safeguards in place to try to stem the swell of organised crime in the 60s, after the info was released about how the Mafia do business. Wiretaps and other infiltrations were then common place and many arrests were made. This caused an atmosphere of suspicion among the mob community and infighting and power struggle assassinations were commonplace. We also talk about the five families of New York and how their influence spread across America in an indelible and somewhat admirable way, yknow, despite all the crime and murder and stuff!

HH Holmes Mar 24, 2017

Show notes

TRUE CRIME -
On this episode we talk about Americas first serial killer and possibly the most prolific in US history. HH Holmes confessed to 27 murders after his arrest in the final years of the 19th century and most of the missing persons associated with his case have never been found and their crime remain unsolved.
Herman Mudgett grew from a young New Hampshire boy with a fascination with dead bodies to a grim hotel owner where a seris of trap doors and torture devices helped in the early expiration of his victims. A travelling salesman and confidence manipulating conman, he married many times and made his bones on insurance scams in the late 1800s. After a series of near misses by law enforcement HH Holmes went on his last journey, leaving a trail of dead bodies behind him on the way to the great white north.
Join us as we talk about him and the motives and consequences of his crimes, on this our first official TCG True Crime episode. Let us know what you think and there is a lot more on the way.

Global Warming Mar 14, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we crank up the heat and dive deep into the rising water of the biggest issue to face our planet and its inhabitants since the dawn of man, or so some would have you believe.
Global warming and the climate change debate has raged in the halls of academia for the last 100 years or so and even with apparant imperical evidence the community is split on whether its real or not.
We discuss the possible causes and solutions to a problem that we will all have to face up to, whether it is man made or not. We also discuss how the new renewable energy revolution will be managed; will it be a new paradigm for humanity or will it be the same old oligarchs calling the shots, just without the black stuff backing them up?

The Death of Marilyn Monroe Feb 28, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we talk about one of the most iconic people on the planet in the last 100 years, her life and her death, and the cultural legacy she left behind after her untimely death, Marilyn Monroe.
With her early life being plagued with insecurity and tragedy, it seems impossible to image that Marilyn was destined to become one of the most powerful women in Hollywood. But drugs, alcohol and an ever present cloud of mental illness hung over her and stunted her meteoric rise.
With a string of very high profile husbands and lovers, some of the public considered her to be a bimbo and a floozy who was sleeping her way to the top, but as we discover she was a shrewd operator and had a level of genius matched with Einstein.
Her premature death has been inspected and reexamined by hundreds of experts and noone can ever really know the motive or perpetrator of Marilyn's death. Was it by her own hand or did someone help her on her way? Presidents and Mafioso have been implicated in her murder and recent reevaluations of the evidence indicate her death was at least very suspicious.

Ghosts: Revisited Feb 12, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode we out on our proton packs and edge our way into the world of the hereafter where the spirits of the dead hold dominion. This is the reconstituted version of a show from the start of Season 1, which was horroibly disfigured by technical faults. This is the full version of Ghosts, with some extra juice!
We talk about the origins of ghost stories from around the world and the types of ghosts that the human mind thought relevant to create. There is an imperative for people to think there is something after death, why would we behave while we were alive if there wasn't?
But from culture to culture and all through the ages there have been stories of ghosts to quieten naughty children and scare heathen adults into obedience. As in our Ed and Lorraine Warren episode, we discuss a haunting and what speaking with the dead can do for someone who wants to make a quick buck.
There are the most famous haunted houses and well known stories of ghouls and apparitions from thorughout history too and we try to fit in as many as we can. There is also a science to the world of the afterlife, and ghost hunters have made their living trying to bring us closer to the truth of where we go when we die. We chat about exorcists and spiritual mediums and how these alleged TV charlatans can have any method of truly communicating with the spirit world.

Propaganda Jan 31, 2017

Show notes

DEEP DIVE -
On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we delve deep into the septic tank of modern news media and examine what's now called 'Fake News', but we have always known it as Propaganda. A tool invented by sociologists using psychological techniques to convice the public to think and act against their will.
We talk about the scientific techniques and the origins of the idea of manipulation of media throughout history. We all learned in school that Hitler had a propaganda machine, but what is not told to impressionable young kids is that pretty much every type of media uses a form of manipulation in the delivery of its message.
The man behind this is Edward Bernays and we talk about him and his techniques as well as discussing Chomsky and Hermann and their Propaganda Model and how the filters they describe are at work in our modern news media.
We also give Trump his few minutes, because you cant talk about bullshit without talking about The Donald. We discuss the Womens March and the Inauguration protests and the future of the mainstream media in this hotbed of polarised politics.
