    Show notes

Welcome to episode #718 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #718 - Host: Mitch Joel. I've known Alex Tapscott's father (famed digital visionary, Don Tapscott) for close to two decades. Together they co-authored the prescient book, Blockchain Revolution (over four years ago - which is hard to imagine). Alex is back his latest book, Financial Services Revolution, where he acts as writer, editor and curator for some of the latest thinking on how the blockchain is changing how we buy, save and spend. Alex is a globally-recognized writer, speaker, investor and advisor. His TEDx talk (Blockchain is Eating Wall Street) has been viewed over 700,000 times. Alex co-founded (with Don) the Blockchain Research Institute, a think-tank that is investigating blockchain strategies, opportunities and use-cases. Let's dive into the blockchain. Did it deliver on its promise? Is the hype real? Still early days? Enjoy the conversation...

SPOS #717 - Vinh Giang The Magic of Better Communication Apr 05, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode #717 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #717 - Host: Mitch Joel. This is the first conversation that I recorded in our current Covid 19 world. I wanted to discuss the power of communications, and how we can get better, and add much more empathy to the way that we are connected. Especially in a world that is now work from home, remote and more isolated than ever before. I knew that I wanted to have that conversation with my friend, Vinh Giang. For more than 15 years, Vinh has dedicated himself to mastering the art of performance-enhanced communication, helping thousands of professionals worldwide do the same through the power of magic. In his inspiring keynote talks, workshops and presentations, Vinh integrates storytelling and magic to share key business strategies while motivating his audience to embrace change and see the "possible in the impossible." Hi backstory? With only six months to graduate, Vinh left his degree in commerce and law to become an online magic teacher. This leap of faith became a hugely successful online business, 52kards, which now serves over 800,000 students globally, and earned Vinh the award of Top Young Entrepreneur in Australia. Vinh is also the CEO of Luminary Productions, which produces exceptional video for individuals and companies all around the globe. Enjoy the diversion and enjoy the conversation...

    Show notes

Welcome to episode #716 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #716 - Host: Mitch Joel. My buddy Jeremy Gutsche was last on this show about five years ago. He's back. Jeremy is a bestselling author, innovation expert, and one of the most sought-after keynote speakers on the planet. He's also the CEO of Trend Hunter (the world's number one trend website and innovation consultancy). His team specializes in filtering opportunity and making change happen during times of chaos and change (perfect timing these days). In total, his team is relied on by close to 700 brands, billionaires and CEOs to predict and create the future, including Google, Disney, Starbucks, Adidas, and he's even helped NASA prototype the Journey to Mars. Jeremy recently published another book. Create The Future (which also includes a foreword from Malcolm Gladwell) looks at tactics for disruptive thinking. Then, if you flip the book over, his older book (Exploiting Chaos) has been revised and updated with the new title, The Innovation Handbook. So, two books in one! Enjoy the conversation...

SPOS #713 - Stephen Shapiro On Solving Difficult Business Problems Mar 08, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode #713 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #713 - Host: Mitch Joel. Innovation comes from solving hard business challenges. When it comes to thinking like that, there is no-one like Stephen Shapiro. This is the work that he does. Stephen cultivates innovation by showing leaders and their teams how to approach, tackle and solve their business challenges. Applying the knowledge he accrued over decades in the industry, Stephen is able to see what others can't: opportunities to improve innovation models and the cultures that support them. Stephen spent 15 years at Accenture co-leading their business process reengineering practice and a thriving 20,000+ person process and innovation practice focused on growth and job creation. In 2001, after publishing his first book, 24/7 Innovation, Stephen left Accenture to become a full-time innovation speaker and advisor. Since then he has published four more books: Goal-Free Living, The Little Book of Big Innovation Ideas, Personality Poker, and Best Practices are Stupid. His sixth (and latest) book, Invisible Solutions, just came out. As a Speaker Hall of Fame Member of the National Speakers Association, Stephen just finished serving a six-year term on the Board of Directors of National Speakers Association and is the recipient of the Certified Speaking Professional designation, NSA's highest earned designation. In 2015 he was inducted into the Speaker Hall of Fame. In this episode, we explore Stephen's 25 lenses that reframe and help solve difficult business problems from his book, Invisible Solutions. SPOS #712 - Grant Baldwin on How To Be A Successful Speaker Mar 01, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode #712 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #712 - Host: Mitch Joel. Grant Baldwin is a popular keynote speaker, entrepreneur, and speaking coach. He's also the creator of the popular podcast, The Speaker Lab (which I've had the pleasure of being a guest on), and the online course Booked and Paid to Speak, through which he has trained thousands of speakers. He just published a new book, The Successful Speaker (along with Jeff Goins), where he has documented the exact system that helped him land over 400 paid speaking gigs across 46 different states over the last decade. Grant has been a good friend for many years, and this business of speaking is something that is near and dear to my heart. Regardless of whether or not you want to be a professional speaker, your ability to stand up (with confidence) in front of an audience and tell a commanding story is critical for every executive's success. This book will help. Enjoy the conversation...

SPOS #711 - Pauline Brown on Aesthetic Intelligence (The Other AI) Feb 23, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode #711 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #711 - Host: Mitch Joel. There's nothing harder than getting up onstage to speak in front of a room full of CEOs that run the world's largest associations following one of the most successful business people from the luxury goods space. I felt like a bum in my black jeans, pseudo dress jacket and sneakers. Pauline Brown had just finished her long stay as the Chairman of LVMH North America (Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton) working with a portfolio of over 70 brands in five different sectors across 100 markets. I made a joke about my clothes, we all laughed (she was probably being very kind and polite about my sad state of fashion affairs), but I was engaged and hanging on to her every word. Pauline is renowned for acquiring, building, and leading some of the world's most influential brands. Now, she is striking out on her own. Moving from business leader to thought leader with her amazing new book, Aesthetic Intelligence (which she has brilliantly called "the other AI"). Her book is based on a course that she designed and taught at Harvard Business School. Pauline began her career as a Consultant at Bain and subsequently held senior executive roles at Estee Lauder, Avon and The Carlyle Group. She currently is an Executive-in-Residence at Columbia Business School and a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. I've become a raving fan of her work/thinking (which you can also hear on Sirius XM show, Tastemakers, on the Stars channel). Enjoy the conversation...

SPOS #710 - David Chavern on Journalism, Fake News And Media Feb 16, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode #710 of Six Pixels of Separation.

Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #710 - Host: Mitch Joel. I had the opportunity to speak for the largest newspaper and media association a few years back, just as they were repositioning and changing their brand name to the News Media Alliance. The President and CEO of the association was (and still is) David Chavern. We had a great discussion (debate) about the current state of media and journalism side-stage before my keynote. When the opportunity presented itself to record a conversation with David, I jumped at it. Fake news, the distrust of media, Twitter account raging heads of state, printing the news, finding facts over editorializing, the impact of social media on news and distribution, and much more. News Media Alliance is the new industry's largest trade association. David joined the Alliance as president and CEO in October 2015. In addition to developing an entirely new brand and identity for the organization, David has been intensely focused on telling the powerful – and optimistic – story of the news industry. David built a career spanning thirty years in executive, strategic and operational roles, and most recently completed a decade-long tenure at the United States Chamber of Commerce. From 2014 to 2015, he served as the President of the Center for Advanced Technology & Innovation at the Chamber. From 2007 through 2014, David was the Chamber's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. As you can imagine, we have a lot of ground to cover. Enjoy the conversation...
