We discuss her shift from the direct sales industry to starting her own coaching business during the pandemic, a move that was both challenging and transformative. And we talk about the fear of success—a surprising hurdle that Lisa had to overcome, even as she was building her business and writing her book.

    Key takeaways from our conversation:

    • Recognizing the early signs of burnout and the importance of addressing them before they escalate.

    • The power of mindset in overcoming personal and professional challenges.

#82- Barber Principles: How Cutting My Husband Fred's Flat Top Taught Me Life Lessons Aug 12, 2024
    Show notes

In today’s episode, I want to take you back to a moment when the world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the unexpected challenges was the closure of barbershops and hair salons, leaving my husband Fred’s flat top in need of a haircut.

Now, if you know anything about a flat top, you know it’s got to be precise, and we were weeks into lockdown, and his hair was looking rough. But there was no barber in sight—so guess what? Fred turns to me and says, "You can do it. You can cut my hair."

And I’m thinking, Are you kidding me? I mean, I’ve dabbled in haircuts before, but this was different. This wasn’t just a trim; this was a flat top—a flat top that needed to look sharp. But here’s the thing, when you’re faced with a challenge, you’ve got two choices: You can back away or you can step up.

So I stepped up. I believed I could do it, even though I had my doubts.

And I want to share with you the principles I learned from cutting Fred's flat top, which can be applied to various aspects of life.

So tune in to discover the "Barber Principles" and how they can help you step up, push through challenges, and grow in ways you never expected.

    Show notes

What steps can you take today to embody the qualities of a true friend and deepen your most meaningful relationships?

In this episode, I had the honor of sharing our growth segment with our powerful women growth group, where we delved into the essential qualities that define true friendship.

I emphasized our fundamental need for connection and discussed how oxytocin fosters relationships. Through personal experiences and friends' stories, I identified seven key qualities of true friends: caring, considerate, courageous, candidly constructive, complimentary, confidant, and committed.

I shared anecdotes and examples of friends who embody these traits, from those who check in during tough times to those who offer loving, constructive criticism.

    Key takeaways from our conversation:

    • How embodying the qualities of a true friend helps you foster strong and supportive friendships

    • Expressing gratitude and recognizing friends who embody these qualities can strengthen your bonds and show appreciation for their support.

    • The transformative impact of friendship and how it can enrich your life and create a positive ripple effect.

I encouraged listeners to reflect on the qualities they value in friendships and consider how they can embody these traits themselves.

💡Getting involved with youth sports at the elementary and middle school level, has been eye opening for the opportunity to help our youth. Children aren't getting enough physical activity at school. One mind blowing example was my child's 5th grade gym class time the class was told to sit in the bleachers and play games on their laptops during their gym class, while another group of students "took a volleyball test" on the gym floor. With my younger two kids, Teachers aren't correcting spelling errors on written assignments.

We have to hold ourselves and our kids to higher expectations so they can succeed in the real world.

74 The Power of Broad Thinking for Career Success with Chad Rothermich Jun 10, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome back to another episode of Thinking That Matters. In this episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with my colleague and friend, Chad Rothermich, to delve into his diverse and fascinating business background. Chad shared his journey through various career paths, starting from his early days in sales as a fourth-grader selling wrapping paper to his ventures in book selling, construction, insurance sales, automotive finance, and industrial manufacturing management.

One key theme that emerged from Chad's story was his ability to think broadly, a skill he attributes to his upbringing with a theater teacher mother and a coach father. This broad thinking led Chad to constantly challenge himself and seek new opportunities for growth and learning. Despite achieving success in various fields, Chad emphasized the importance of aligning one's career with personal fulfillment and lifestyle goals, which led him to make strategic career shifts along the way.

As Chad transitioned into coaching and training roles, he discovered a passion for helping others develop their mindset, skills, and systems. Through his coaching experiences, Chad highlighted the significance of remaining curious and open-minded, especially when faced with challenges or obstacles. He emphasized the value of embracing the journey towards a goal, rather than solely focusing on the end result, as true fulfillment lies in the process of growth and learning.

Three key takeaways from our conversation:

    • Embrace Broad Thinking Early On

    • Be Open to Pivot and Evolve

    • Focus on the Journey, Not Just the Destination

    More about Chad:

Chad, a professional Sales and Leadership Coach at Southwestern Consulting, has built a career around his passion for investing in people. With six years of experience at Southwestern Advantage as a salesman, sales manager, and recruiter, he honed his sales skills and developed a passion for teaching and helping others achieve their goals. Chad excels in motivating and encouraging people to set big goals and break them down into achievable steps.

In his spare time, Chad enjoys outdoor activities like fly fishing, hiking, camping, and mountain biking. He is dedicated to serving his church, friends, family, and the broader community.
