    Thin Brewed Line Podcast

Thin Brewed Line Podcast is about the mental and physical health of our men and women in blue or green police uniforms. Our coffee and convo is all about helping cops! No fancy podcast equipment, just some real talk in hopes to help cops and their mental health. We share perspectives, thoughts, ideas and experiences of those that have and still are serving as police officers . We are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEO’s who may need or want it.

Your host, Dan is a 20 year veteran retired Tucson cop, served in the Marines and owns the coffee company. Dan worked patrol as an officer and supervisor and SWAT for 13 years as an operator, team leader, sniper and mechanical breacher. Also in his resume is several years in plain clothes UC work as an officer and supervisor that worked property, gun and drug crimes as well as human trafficking. Your co-host, Kurt Dabb, who is a 20 year (retired) Arizona Sheriffs Deputy, homicide detective, training officer and now works to help other cops with their resiliency and health.

Thousands of Shoes Everywhere Oct 29, 2021
    Show notes

NYPD is one the largest police departments in the world. This episode is about a retired NYPD officer and now author of five books about his career. He tells it like it is, just as you would expect from a true blooded New Yorker. Vic Ferrari keeps Kurt and I laughing for almost an hour and we are sure you will too!

Listen and find out about all these shoes left behind at the worlds largest crime scene and how the lazy cop inadvertently saved another cops life.

Author Vic Ferrari is a retired New York City Police Department detective with the hamstrings of a twenty-year-old. A survivor of an Irish father and Italian mother, Vic loves a cold beer and insists on you removing your shoes when entering his home. When he's not writing, he's picking up after his neurotic Irish Wolfhound. Always looking to save a buck, Vic splits his time between Branson, Missouri, and Papua New Guinea.

Fighting Fires & Posing for Calendars Oct 22, 2021
    Show notes

People just don't understand the hardships posing for a fireman’s calendar shoot can have on firefighters! In the next episode, we are going to break down this painful process with 30-year, Tucson firefighter veteran, Clint Moss.

In all seriousness, we’ll discuss the difference between firefighter and police officer rehab and recovery after difficult shifts or calls. What does the firefighter community do differently from law enforcement? Are there things LEOs should be looking at from our brothers and sisters in red? Take for instance the way a truck of 4-6 fire personnel can lean on each other after a tragic call versus the police officer who drives away solo from that same horrible call.

Do firefighters take on a more serious mindset about rehab and recovery for both their physical and mental wellness? I would propose that there is a difference, and LEOs can learn many things from them.

We are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEOs who may need or want it.

That is exactly why Nate left the Tucson Police Department and went on a different path. He now runs a successful microgreens business, cares for his special-needs daughter, Ellie, and advocates for police officer wellness.

    Amtrak Aftermath Oct 06, 2021
    Show notes

The trauma of an unprovoked ambush gunfight in tight confines with dozens of innocent people around…The pain of being injured and the terrible loss of a brother… Tucson is rocked yet again with a violent tragedy that results in the loss of of one our own and two others seriously injured at the downtown Amtrak station.

The aftermath causes anxiety, anger, sadness, and confusion. We train hard for that moment where, within a split second, life is in jeopardy. But, are we prepared for the days following the chaos? How do LEO's deal with this? How do we keep going on?

Kurt and I share some ideas and thoughts to hopefully make this healing and recovery a little better for some of our brothers and sisters. We are very proud of the people we worked with and how they responded to this incident.

Money Money Money...Almighty dolla! Stress in law enforcement can come from all kinds of places, and finances are no exception. The cop spends more hoping that they can work off duty or overtime and then soon all they do is work. There is a way to make, save and invest money and there are people that can help you. This is a must for all cops to at least sit down with someone and find out where they can improve.

Our guest Mark E. from Galloway Public Safety Financial walks us through his personal and professional experiences with money. Mark is a dedicated veteran police supervisor, detective and training supervisor who also has a degree in finances too.
