    • Some of the more common feelings associated with blending families for the first time
    • What about the holidays overall can cause tension amongst family members

    Session 331: Intergenerational Friendship w/ Ca’ren & Bettye Nov 01, 2023
    Show notes

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.

As the seasons begin to change we’re taking another good look at the sister- friends that have carried us this far into the year. What better way to celebrate friendship than to showcase how Black women of all ages have fostered supportive, uplifting, and life saving bonds? It’s no secret that over here at TBG, we believe “Sisterhood Heals” and today’s guests are a perfect example of the liberating impact our connections have. Joining me for today’s conversation are community members Ca’ren Hudson & Bettye Holt-Haskins. This godmother-goddaughter duo are representative of an intergenerational friendship with an age gap of 47 years. We chatted about their transition from godmother and daughter to best friends, what friendship looks and feels like when operating as equals, and the multitude of benefits in making friends in every age group.

    Session 330: RENAISSANCE Reflections Oct 25, 2023
    Show notes

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.

Last year, Beyonce blessed us with her album ‘RENAISSANCE,’ and this year, she opened us up to her glittery, futuristic world with the RENAISSANCE World Tour. From the the viral “everybody on mute” challenge, to the collective silver fashions, and the all-around joy cultivated, it’s fair to say that the RENAISSANCE World Tour was a whole cultural phenomenon.

To reflect on our respective RENAISSANCE World Tour experiences, I’m joined today by TBG team members Lex, Nyesha, Ellice, Jayna, & Cindy. In our conversation, we chit-chat about our favorite tour performances and moments, gush over the legend that is Blue Ivy Carter, and share our predictions for the newly announced RENAISSANCE Tour movie.

TBG University: Black Women In Art Oct 24, 2023
    Show notes

Congratulations, you’ve been accepted into the inaugural class of Therapy for Black Girls University. Whether you’re packing for a new year on campus, thinking through your gap year, enrolling in a community college, or grabbing your stoles for graduation, TBG U is here to help you thrive at this stage of your life and beyond.

If you’re an art major, the question of, “what are you gonna do with your degree?” is likely all too familiar. You also may have experienced feelings of uncertainty and doubt, wondering if you truly can make a living in the art space. Though none of us can predict the future, it can be empowering to see images of Black women who are already succeeding in the arts.

An example of that is today’s guest, Kaci Merriwether-Hawkins. Kaci is a Dallas-based visual storyteller and founder of Black Girls in Art Spaces. Black Girls In Art Spaces was launched in July of 2022 with the mission of holding a digital and IN REAL LIFE space for Black women to nurture their creativity, as well as champion Black artistry and Black stories. She’s been blessed to work alongside brands like Beats by Dre, Adobe, Nike, Apple, and more.

In our conversation today, we explore the obstacles faced by Black women in the art industry, the importance of having a strong network, and how simply being yourself can be the first step in securing your dream art job.

The 2024 election season is rapidly approaching, and while we know just how important it is for Black women to use our voices – and our vote – in any election, we also recognize that staying informed can be difficult when the news seems bleak. To help make things easier, we’re here to break down some key factors you need to know ahead of this critical election cycle. To give us this rundown, I’m joined today by award-winning political journalist Errin Haines. Errin is the Founding Mother and Editor at Large of The 19th, a nonprofit, independent newsroom focused on the intersection of gender, politics, and policy. She is also an MSNBC Contributor and former writer for The Associated Press, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and Orlando Sentinel. Show notes

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.

This October, TBG is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month by sharing resources and celebrating the experiences of survivors. Studies have shown that breast cancer disproportionately impacts Black women. However, a breast cancer diagnosis does not have to equal a death sentence. Joining me today is patient advocate and breast cancer thriver Marissa Thomas. Marissa was diagnosed in 2015 with stage II breast cancer and is now the co-founder and CEO of For The Breast of Us, an inclusive online community for Women of Color impacted by breast cancer. During our conversation, Marissa and I discussed her experience as a breast cancer survivor, the importance of family and how a parent can relay their diagnosis to a child, and embracing changes in your body and personhood after breast cancer.
