Episode 40: The Length of YOUR Cycle Matters Jun 14, 2020
    Show notes

In today's episode I talk about why the length of your cycle matters when it comes to training.

When you know the length of your cycle you can utilise your red circle window. It's in this window that your hormones support you to train hard, recover better and build strength.

Your cycle length determines when you are in the four phases of training - build, peak and restore phases.

When you know the length of your cycle it becomes a tool to support your training and programming.

Do you know the length of your cycle?

I recorded a 20-min video on how to use your cycle as a tool to support your training. I hope you'll check it out. https://youtu.be/N1WA8mFdxak

Episode 39: Your cycle is a TOOL for your training Jun 10, 2020
    Show notes

Why your cycle is an important tool for your training

This episode is for women who train and want to understand how their cycle is a tool to support their training.

Our hormones change during our cycle. At the start of our cycle we can train harder and longer, recover better and build strength easier.

Towards the end of our cycle our hormones are their lowest, we may need to be more mindful with our training, it takes longer to recover and we crave more rest.

Most women don’t know their cycle. They think their cycle works against them when it comes to training. But it is our superpower.

It is a TOOL to use to help us get the results we want in our training.

In this episode I will talk about why your cycle is an important tool for your training. We look at the science of the cycle and I share my story about how it was the missing prong in my red umbrella.

Episode 38: Training, pregnancy and pelvic floors with Lizzy Crouch Jun 08, 2020
    Show notes

In today's episode I chat to Lizzy Crouch. Lizzy has a Bachelor in Exercise Science, A Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and is a Postnatal Exercise Specialist.

Lizzy supports women in getting the most out of life through movement and exercise during pregnancy, post-natal and beyond.

Her "why" for what she does is grounded in a new role she took on almost two years ago when she gave birth to Jackson, now almost two (and has another one on the way).

Lizzy talks about how she thought she was strong and fit for pregnancy, but soon found out that being able to squat 90kg didn't prepare her for the changes her body underwent during pregnancy and post-natal.

We talk about training, her pregnancy, pelvis floors, the breath, body image and so much more.

She wanted the tools to safely get back into the gym, onto the trails and on her bike. She dived into the research to learn about how to start training again after the birth of her son and found out that this wasn't really being done.

She believes that all women should feel strong, capable and without hesitation when it comes to exercise, pelvic floor health and saying yes to activity and adventure.

Episode 35: Community, Confidence and Taking Responsibility with Nerida Bint May 12, 2020
    Show notes

My guest today radiates on a vibration that is positively infectious. She is a coach, a leader, business owner, a mentor, a manager, a fellow athlete AND AUSSIE!

Nerida Bint is the owner of Lissome, a women's only gym in Newcastle, NSW in AUSTRALIA, where she has created every girls dream gym!

Lissome's vision is to strive to make a global shift in the way women think about health through community, connection and contribution.

Nerida and her girl squad have created a space where women of every age, shape, size or ability are welcomed, and challenged to embrace their bodies for what they can do, instead of how they look.

Through training, mindset, nutrition and hard conversations women are finding confidence, connection and community, all while they lift heavy stuff, run and do pull ups.

My biggest takeaway from this chat was that we can be held accountable to show up, train, connect and contribute, BUT in the end we need to take responsibility for ourselves, our thoughts and actions.

    Episode 34: Why I don't Recommend Fasting May 09, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 34 of the Off-Kilter podcast

This week’s episode on the podcast is on Fasting

I got asked a question in response to a video I made a month or so ago. In the video I was talking about how to nourish the food prong of your umbrella. The question was “why don’t you recommend fasting?”

This week in my conversations it has come up again. So I wanted to give this topic a little love today on the podcast

In today’s episode I talk about:

    • Fasting
    • What’s happening when we fast
    • How it affects our red umbrella, in particular our hormones and cycle
    • How I support women to nourish their food prong

I would love to hear from you about how you nourish your food prong?

Episode 33: Training, trust and truths with Megann VanderVliet Apr 29, 2020
    Show notes

My guest today loves to throw things (not at people), she was a competitive athlete for over 10 years and now moves her body from a place of joy. She did her Masters in leadership and works in people development. She is passionate about creating space for people to find their potential and self lead so they can live BIG lives.

Megann was a competitive Hammer Thrower for over 10 years. In today's episode she shares her story as an athlete, her dream of going to the 2012 Olympics and what happened when she didn't make it. We talk about being attached to an identity and what happens when that is taken away from you. She shares how she had to find who she was outside of her sport, and her journey to rebuild trust with her body after retiring.

There is so much in this. I could talk to her for hours. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Episode 32: Guest on The Passive Hang Podcast Apr 14, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 32 The Passive Hang Podcast

I am so grateful my friend and fellow mover Phaon asked me to share my story on his podcast “the passive hang” (which is the coolest podcast name, ever). We initially met through the APA program run by our friend and mentor John Marsh

In this conversation, I share my journey through gymnastics, hockey, competitive olympic lifting and movement culture.

I share my own struggles with identity, training and energy, which has led me to develop my own unique approach to helping women finally get the results they want from their training through understanding their cycle.

This episode is great for those wanting to find out more about female specific training and challenges - including periods, nutrition and their red umbrella.

Episode 31: Stress and Your Cycle Apr 04, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 31: Stress and your cycle

On the episode today we chat about stress and the menstrual cycle and I share with you the three prongs to focus on to support your cycle in times of stress.

Stress can stop our brain from sending a message to our ovaries to release our hormones that power our cycle - FSH and LH. FSH stimulates estrogen and LH stimulates ovulation AND progesterone. When we are stressed there is a communication error which can impact our cycle.

If your cycle is a little off over the next few cycles - that’s totally normal if you have been stressed and your red umbrella isn't working right. Because of the effect stress has on your brain and on those hormones that power your cycle - we can see irregular cycles, PMS, no ovulation, no cycle.

I hope you find this helpful.

    Big love x
