16: Episode 76 - Bills vs Lions recap Preseason Week 3

Show notes
The Buffalo Bills have improved to three wins on the preseason this year, with a 24 - 20 victory over the Detroit Lions. It wasn't pretty by any means, as the game was marred with sloppy play, injuries and penalties, but optimists should see the game as a plus for Buffalo's resiliency. Winning games when little is going according to plan, is the difference between "In the Hunt" or "In the Playoffs" come Week 17. Buffalo focused on their rushing attack this week, led by LeSean McCoy and Frank Gore. Fans watching were able to see the explosiveness that makes McCoy a quality RB. While that was a different turn for the offense, which has been very pass happy for the first 2 weeks of preseason, Josh Allen still struggled a bit while passing, including a bad, across the body pass that was picked off. Luckily for him, a "roughing the passer" penalty canceled it out. The Bills defense played against their first starting QB this preseason, and were definitely challenged. Matt Stafford had a pretty solid day passing against the Bills' secondary, providing a good look at what improvements need to be made. Buffalo excelled in the run defense however, at all levels, only allowing just over 100 yards total on the ground.

After a week of practice together, the Buffalo Bills defeated the Carolina Panthers in Week 2 of the Preseason by score of 27-14. The Bills' starters showed up this evening, both offense and defense, showing excellent team chemistry on-field and executing their plays relatively effectively. Josh Allen had one of his better passing games against the Panthers defense, who sat some of their star defenders. Regardless of who played, Josh Allen's ability to make his reads quickly, as well as getting the ball out of his hands even quicker, leaves continued optimism for his personal growth from last season to now. Allen finished the evening 9-for-11 on completions with 102 yards in the air. Allen made strong connections with his receiving corp as well, including two big catches for Rookie Tight End Tommy Sweeney. The 7th Round Pick from Boston College has made the most of his time with Buffalo's first string offense, in the absence of several others ahead of him on the depth chart. Cole Beasley caught five passes on five targets from Allen as well, furthering Beasley's chemistry with Josh, as well as his emergence as one of Buffalo's premier receivers in 2019. LeSean McCoy also had some receptions from Josh Allen, as well as an up-the-gut TD to score the games first points. The Defense continued its solid run, putting pressure on the Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey-less Panthers offense. First and second string excelled. Kevin Johnson had a 70-yard pick six, Ed Oliver disrupted the offense while battling two Panthers lineman, and overall, the depth continues to shine. Buffalo has the potential to be a Top 5 Defense again, and most importantly, improve upon last years results.

Preseason is the time to work out the kinks before Week 1 gets going. As any team, Buffalo has had its fair share of kinks this camp and preseason period. Injuries have been the biggest detractor, but it has opened up some windows for young, talented, and players on the cut bubble, potentially making 53-man roster cuts a little more difficult to narrow down. All-in-all, the Bills defense is quality, potentially a Top 5 Defense, the depth chart battles at Wide Receiver, and switches at O-Line have been the most enjoyable aspects to watch. As we get closer towards Week 1, expect more adjustments, and potential out of the box moves to get last looks at certain players. Also, one thing that Bills fans should be grateful for, at the very least, is avoiding Antonio Brown. The star Wide Receiver has been in the news in recent weeks, and not for good behavior. In a critical year for Josh Allen, the coaching regime, and even the front office, they had certainly avoided a potentially disastrous acquisition.
13: Episode 73 - Colts vs Bills Recap

After a torrential downpour, the skies cleared up for another perfect evening of Buffalo Bills football, this past Thursday evening. The Indianapolis Colts showed up for pre-season action, and as per usual, there was good and bad. 1st Offenses for both Buffalo and Indianapolis couldn't gain much traction against the other team's defenses, who were highly regarded just a year ago. The longest drive for Buffalo was 46 yards over 10 plays and a Stephen Haushcka missed field goal at 34 yards away. There may be some lingering issues there from last season, but something to look out for over the remainder of pre-season. 2nd Team Offense was one of the high points of the evening, under Matt Barkley, having consistent drives, including a TD Pass to Cam Phillips. Buffalo's 2nd team stayed consistently solid as well, making it difficult for Indianapolis QB Phillip Walker to make much progress. Highlight of the evening however, goes to Christian Wade, whose first touch in an NFL game ever, was a 65-yard TD run, answering back to Chad Kelly's 32-yard TD Run for Indy. I'm sure that it'll be a night that Wade will never forget.
12: Episode 72 - Colts versus Bills Preseason Week 1 Preview

This Thursday, the first week of pre-season begins for the Buffalo Bills, as they host the Indianapolis Colts at home, 7pm kickoff time. It looks to be a big test for a Buffalo Bill's team that had got around this off-season to add much needed pieces. While only one quarter will be played with starters, there are some aspects to look at. The Bills defensive line has been one of the highlights of this years camp, excelling and putting pressure on Josh Allen and the offensive line often. While the offensive line has been struggling, it has been tough to truly gauge how good the defensive starters are. They have a huge task at hand, going up against a stud offensive line, that went 5 games without giving up a sack for Andrew Luck in 2018. While Luck won't be playing on Thursday, if the defensive front can outwork the Colts' O-Line, it will be a good sign as to how talented that they are. Josh Allen, and the Running back Core will also look to play against a tough defense in the Colts, who in 2018, did not allow a single 100-yard rusher. For a team looking to re-establish the run game after last years' campaign, this will be a good indicator on the season.
