How To Crush Headaches, Migraines, Neck Pain, Back Pain, Bio-Hack Your Spine and Increase Human Performance With Chiropractic BioPhysics Feb 05, 2019
    Show notes

On this episode we talk about why taking care of your spine extremely vital for you to be healthy. You know, that thing in the back of your body that keeps you upright and allows you to move your legs. That thing that controls every single organ in your body. Yea that thing is called your spine. You should pay attention to it more often because it is what determines your quality of life. When your spine becomes decrepit and degenerated it starts to lock itself into place, which means your spine is literally fusing itself… to itself. Your bones start to become fixated and your range of motion becomes severely restricted leading to nerve impingement. Your nerves then become compromised and all your organs, tissues and cells suffer due to loss of nerve flow to keep them alive and healthy. This episode is likely to become very controversial, as I talk about different types of spine management approaches and why some of them fail. I will also be talking about types of Chiropractic care and why they are so different. So, if you have had a bad experience with a chiropractor, I will tell you why that was the case. Or if you went to a Chiropractor and you were immediately turned off because of how weird and quaky they were, I will tell you why. Trust me, I know how weird chiropractors can be, because a lot of them do really esoteric things that are beyond what seems scientifically reasonable. There are, however, chiropractors who provide scientific evidence and research for what they do. These Chiropractors are super analytical and make sure that their patients understand how the human spine works and functions based on biomechanics and loading forces on the spine. You see, visiting a chiropractor is just like visiting a dentist or visiting a medical doctor. If you went to visit a dentist and they did a piss poor job leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth.. literally… would you just decide "I'm never getting my teeth cleaned again and never seeing a dentist as long as I live, or would you find better dentist?" I'm pretty sure you would find a new dentist, because regular checkups are crucial, as we know gum disease can lead to many issues like cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease and even diabetes. Just like you wouldn't just immediately opt-in for a spine surgery, you would seek all conservative approaches to spinal care before spending hundreds of thousands of dollars with the potential of becoming paralyzed or becoming worse from surgery. You also wouldn't ever discard all medical doctors forever because we need medical doctors for things like emergency medicine and severe bacterial or viral infections. Every single healthcare practitioner plays their role in healthcare today or else there wouldn't be board advisories set up for them to exist. This being said, find the right practitioner for you and don't lump them all into a group as the same. Do your homework and you will likely find the fit for you. Here's the thing…. Dentists, just like Chiropractors all practice differently and have different techniques. Although both Dentists and Chiropractors both go through 4-year programs undergoing the core curriculum in order to pass national board testing, they also undergo specialized training in the technique or specialty of their choosing. Some people are either turned on or turned off by the specialty these physicians' practice. Now, In my experience, most humans prefer visible, tangible, factual and scientifically based health care and treatment routes. You know, care that someone can actually understand and visually make sense of. That is why I practice the most scientific and research-based form of Chiropractic on the planet which is called Chiropractic Biophysics. I am embarrassed to say that a lot of my Chiropractic colleagues do things that are way out of what is reasonably acceptable for health care standards. Things like energy-based chiropractic where the chiropractor doesn't even touch you and says that they were able to adjust your spine with their mind. Or muscle-testing techniques to see which nutrients your body is or isn't deficient in. Some people are into this kind of thing, and it works for some people, but if you are a more analytical person who needs the facts, then you are going to be extremely weirded out and then lump the entire Chiropractic profession into an insane group of quacks out to take your money. Believe me.. I get it.. because I would feel the same way if I was looking at Chiropractic from the outside-in. However, just know that, that is just a small population of the Chiropractic profession and that many Chiropractors are extremely knowledgeable and research-based physicians. That is to say that, myself and my other colleagues who practice Chiropractic BioPhysics technique work with some of the world's top orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, neurologists and medical doctors. This is because they understand how biomechanics, arthro-kinematics and postural deformities put stress and strain on the spine through repetitive micro and macro traumas over our lifetime. And when we show them how we are remolding healthier postures and spines by implementing chiropractic adjustments, strengthening weakened muscles with dynamic exercise, re-establishing proprioception and balance to the brain stem using vibration platforms and stretching spinal ligaments (which is the glue of our spine) into positions that keep our spine upright using spinal traction units. By using all of these tools, modalities and treatments, this allows other healthcare providers to understand what we do truly makes logical sense. Because at the end of the day we are trying to bridge the gap between the medical model of surgery and drugs towards implementing more conservative approaches to health care first through Chiropractic, nutrition and physical therapy. Let's touch a little bit on this thing called Chiropractic BioPhysics… Now my job on this episode is not to persuade you or to show my bias towards Chiropractic BioPhysics. My purpose is to simply tell you about the technique and how it provides incredible outcomes. In fact, I don't have to persuade you into anything, because the research sells Chiropractic Biophysics alone. I don't intend on putting any other technique down but I do intend to show you how Chiropractic BioPhyics is a technique that is tangible and understandable that everyone on planet Earth can understand backed by solid research. Now Let talk about the technique…just like there are normal measurements for blood pressure and cholesterol levels, there are normal measurements for the human spine. These normal measurements of our spine is known as the ideal spine model. This model was founded by Dr. Don Harrison who received a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in applied mathematics. Which if that wasn't impressive enough, he attained these degrees simultaneously and had to have special approval from his university's educational board to work on these degrees simultaneously because nobody in their right mind would do these together due to how extremely rigorous they are by themselves alone. This is to say, Dr. Don Harrison was an extremely intelligent and hardworking individual. Dr. Don was almost savant-like, with a passion to advance the Chiropractic profession to what health care should be focusing on.. which is looking to the spine first to determine how curvatures and posture affects a person's health. In other words, the further you get away from healthy and normal spinal curvatures, the lower the quality of life you will endure. The other side of the coin is the closer you are to the ideal spine model of humans, the healthier and higher quality of life you will endure. Quickly before we move on I will tell you what the normal curvatures of each part of our spine should be according to the ideal spine model in humans. We have three major regions of our spine: First is our cervical spine which makes up our neck and has 7 bones C1-C7. Our neck has a lordotic curve made from a piece of a circle. The ideal degree of curvature of our cervical spine is 42 degrees and a normal degree of curvature is 34 degrees. This being said you want a lordotic cervical curve anywhere between 34 and 42 degrees. Second is our thoracic spine which makes up our upper and middle back and has 12 bones T1-T12. Our thoracic spine has a kyphotic curve that should have an ideal curve of 44 degrees T1-T12 so that our heart and lungs can function to their best. Third is our Lumbar spine which makes up our low back and has 5 bones L1-L5. Our lumbar spine is a lordotic curve just like our cervical spine, but instead of a piece of a circle, it is a piece of an ellipse. The ideal degree of curvature for our lumbar spine is 40 degrees. The more your spinal curvatures start to go below or above these values, the more pain and organ disfunction you are likely to incur. Now.. Like I said, after this episode I will likely have other chiropractors being mad at me or coming out of the wood-work stating their case… great! I invite that. But you cannot argue facts and science that have been given solid evidence that is published in the top spine journals on planet Earth. That being said, the standard chiropractic adjustment which chiropractors are known for, is not what creates lasting change from pain, organ dysfunction, and posture deformities. The chiropractic adjustment is an amazing treatment for acute care and symptomatology. Things like headaches, neck pain, back pain, joint pains, jaw pain, constipation, numbness and tingling in extremities and the list goes on. However, as much as I hate to say it.. a chiropractic adjustment is a temporary band-aid, because if you've been to a chiropractor before you get adjusted and feel great for a week or so and then you have to go back for another adjustment. This is because an adjustment really only releases nerve pressure and increases physiological range of motion for short periods of time until your spine, muscles and ligaments go right back to where they were. You want to know why? Because THE ADJUSTMENT DID NOTHING TO CHANGE YOU POSTURE LONGTERM. If you get nothing out of this episode other than understanding that permanent posture change is the ultimate determinant of eliminating spine pain and increasing nerve function then I will have done my job. That being said, a chiropractic adjustment can only change posture temporarily. The only way for posture to remain permanent is by retraining your muscles and ligaments to hold your spine in place. This will lead to much better outcomes like nerve function, athletic performance, brain performance, organ function and dramatic increase of quality of life. You also won't need to get adjusted every damn week. So put that idea that you have to see a Chiropractor for the rest of your life to bed. Now, as I stated earlier, I myself am a Doctor of Chiropractic and I treat the spine in a conservative, non-invasive and drug-free fashion. At the time of this recording, I work alongside Dr. Miles Fortner who has been published in 5 peer-reviewed pub-med indexed journal articles on conservative treatments of spinal deformities utilizing Chiropractic Biophysics protocol. Two more research cases are expected to be published here in the coming months with my name on it as the lead investigator. If you don't know what pub-med is, it is one of the largest research databases in the world for new advances in science, health and human advancements. This being said, the type of Chiropractic care that we do inside our office is unlike any conservative treatment you will ever find. Just about everyone has a spine related issue in their lifetime. Whether that is physical pain in the neck, upper, mid and lower back. Spine related issues, however, are not always perceived as spine generated. In other words, most people don't even realize that their current condition or issue is coming from their spine. For instance, having chronic migraines or headaches have been known to be spine generated but most people think they have a brain tumor or neurological deficit. What we find as chiropractors more often than not is that those people with chronic headaches are suffering from an unhealthy cervical spine also known as the bones in your neck. Headaches are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to poor functioning spine and spinal cord. The conditions and symptoms you have been suffering from your entire life could be coming from having a poor posture, which leads to a poor spinal structure, which puts a ton of pressure on your nerves and decrease nerve conduction velocity and impulse to every single cell, tissue and organ of your body. Let's first start with some conditions relating to an unhealthy cervical spine aka an unhealthy neck. Again, these are things you have been living with that you may never think could be due to an unhealthy neck. Things like Migraine headaches, tension headaches, ringing in the ears, vertigo, dizziness, nausea, jaw pain, jaw clicking, grinding teeth at night, snoring, sleep apnea, spots or floating lights, numbness and tingling in hands, coldness in hands, weakness on grip, forearm cramping, getting sick easier than most, staying sick longer than most, thyroid dysfunction and troubles regulating body temperature. A lot of stuff huh? And those were just the conditions related to a poor cervical spine aka the bones in your neck. I'll give you a quick case report on a woman with a cervical spine condition that drastically decreased her quality of life. This woman had a large right head translation along with a surgical cervical spine fusion. If you don't know what a right head translation is, imagine a string is attached to your right ear and is pulling your ear purely to the right parallel to the ground. Now Two CBP colleagues Dr. Paul Oakley and Dr. Deed Harrison published a case report on this woman. I will mention that Dr. Deed Harrison is the son of Dr. Don Harrison we spoke about earlier. Dr. Deed Harrison is currently the President of CBP technique and seminars. Now this case I am going to tell you about can be found in The Journal of Physical Therapy Science and is titled Alleviation of pain and disability in a post-surgical C4–C7 total fusion patient after reducing a lateral head translation (side shift) posture: a CBP®case report with a 14 year follow-up . Now let's set the stage. This was a 56-year-old female who had turned her neck a certain way, she felt a pop in her neck and immediately had localized neck pain. She then went to see a local Chiropractor for pain relief but unfortunately this Chiropractor failed to do a proper examination and X-rays. What the Chiropractor failed to understand, is that the patient already had a pre-existing condition in her neck known as a congenital fusion of two segments of her cervical spine. Congenital means she was born with it, as opposed to a surgical fusion when bones are fused together with surgical material. The only way to know that is to take spinal X-rays, in which this Chiropractor failed to perform. She also had an injury of the joint above the fusion where a bone had shifted forward which is known as an anterior-listhesis which is commonly found above or below in those with congenital fusions. So being completely blinded of her condition, this Chiropractor adjusted her neck and immediately made her neck flare up more and sent pain down her right arm. Now, I am not here to put down Chiropractors because I am a Chiropractor. What I am putting down is any health care provider that fails to provide standard of care whether that is a Chiropractor, Dentist, Medical Doctor or even a naturopathic doctor. In this case, the Chiropractor didn't take an X-rays to see if she may have an underlying patho…

Dr. Justin Wilcox - Athletic Performance, Strength Training Hacks, Chiropractic BioPhysics Technique & Prime Nutrition Jan 28, 2019
    Show notes

My guest today is one of my nearest and dearest best friends. I have known him since high school and ever since I've known him, he has been an absolute stud when it comes to human performance.

Since I've known him, he has been jacked, shredded, and one of the strongest guys I have ever known. The best part is that he is truly a humble soul and goes about his business with class. He played D1 college football at the University of South Florida as a fullback and set the school record for a vertical jump at 43.5 inches, which is a super impressive feat, if you didn't know.

He trained on the United States Olympic Bob sled team which is a high honor and privilege to be a part of. Not just any Joe Schmoe can train with the bobsled team.

He was in an under armor commercial with Julio Jones, he has trained alongside Alex Rodriguez and Rob Gronkowski. He has even had a shout out from The Rock Johnson on twitter.

This is a man who lifts some big boy weights and owns the gym. In his very first body building physique competition, he placed 2nd overall at the NPC Rocky Mountain Championships, which is super impressive for a first timer.

I know very few people who work as hard as he does. His work ethic is seriously incredible. He is a full-time Doctor of Chiropractic working in San Diego California at Bayside Spine and Sport. He is seriously one of the best people I know in my life. And I am fortunate to have him as a friend. He is Dr. Justin Wilcox!

    SHOW NOTES:

3:10 – Dr. Wilcox talks about how he decided to dive into body building and athletic performance so that he could become a better athlete and outperform everyone

6:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his incredible story growing up with his younger brother and how it shaped him as a person. How he and his brother had to stay together in order to make it through hard times.

10:38 – Dr. Wilcox talks about who influenced him most into biohacking and taking human performance to another level. He talks about what and who made him push himself. He always had the underdog mentality and he has always been out to prove himself.

18:45 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his daily habits that increase his quality of life. Things like sleep hacking. Having enough water in the day. Having enough sunlight in the day. Taking time out in nature. Having a foundation of health matters first before biohacking.

25:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about Chiropractic Biophysics and how it is taking the chiropractic profession to another level. Chiropractic Biophysics is the most researched and scientifically based form of Chiropractic Biophysics on the planet. Based off your posture and biomechanics, this will determine your health and quality of life. What makes CBP different than traditional chiropractic care.

28:40 – I talk about a cross-fit athlete who had neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain and headaches. He stopped lifting weights completely and committed to CBP care for 3 months. After care he added 50 pounds on each power lift even without lifting weights for 3 months!

30:45 – We talk about how I was born with Arnold-Chiari Malformation and how it was giving me migraine headaches. I found that by having a straight cervical spine, it created more tension which led to more headaches. I then utilized CBP technique and increase the healthy curve of my cervical spine which decreased the frequency of my migraines.

33:10 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his personal weight lifting records, his current strength and how you can get stronger to lift more weight in the gym.

36:14 – Dr. Wilcox talks about how to get stronger through biomechanics and form. He gives some really quick tips to increase your strength by 10-40 pounds instantly. How intra-abdominal pressure can add a ton of strength.

39:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about nutritional approaches to getting stronger and fitter. Based off your goals and your current health will determine your dietary approach. If you have an autoimmune condition or digestive issue, you need to address that first. A good and safe way to start is trying a paleo type diet.

42:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about seeing a health care provider to talk about nutrition and losing weight. He talks about if you are eligible, you may be able to bill your insurance for a nutritional consult and they will likely cover it.

44:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about the supplements he takes to enhance his workouts and quality of life. He talks about how many supplements he used to take. He recommends certain brands like Xymogen and Thorne. He talks about why most supplements are of crappy quality. He talks about how supplements should not be used as a cure-all because everyone is an individual.

49:20 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his morning routine and what he does so that he can continue to be a freak-show. Talks about how he reviews his day, has his coffee, studies and works out to get his mind right. He stressed that having routines are very important. He talks about how he does not meal prep and only eats fresh cooked foods so that he limits histamine responses. Even talks about saunas and cold tub training.

    54:20:

    1. If the world was ending today and you could eat anything for your last meal, what would it be?

"I would eat Heirloom BBQ in Atlanta, Georgia. He would get the clear noodles with the BBQ ribs."

    56:32:

    1. If you had one week to live and you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

"I would travel around the USA because there are so many good things still to visit. I would also want to see Glacier and Yosemite National Park because I really love to climb and hike mountains. And even maybe Mount Everest."

    57:58:

    1. If you had one piece of advice for anyone out there listening to live a better life?

"Look for the positives in the hardships of life. You can either let hardships and circumstances in your life beat you or you can think that these circumstances are making a better you each day. Always strive to be the best version of you even when it comes to dealing with things you don't want to deal with. Keep moving forward and embrace the suffering."

Molecular Hydrogen and Why It's Hot Right Now, HyVida, The Benefits and Side Effects of Consuming Hydrogen, Why Antioxidants Are Not Enough with Rick Smith

In today's episode I chat about molecular hydrogen which has been a big topic in the health and wellness space and it happens that my guest for this episode co-founded HyVida brands, which is a hydrogen-infused beverage company. If you didn't know, HyVida is recognized by beverage industry leaders as a strong candidate to massively disrupt beverage categories such as sparkling waters, carbonated soft drinks, functional waters, and energy drinks. Now my guest today has over 20 years of experience growing high-technology companies from startup to thriving enterprises. With various executive positions in advanced optics, photonic sensors and semiconductors, Rick has strategically sold sophisticated technology into medical imaging, homeland security, defense and aerospace markets throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Rick holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and MBA from Michigan State University, and he does all this, while being a family man. I'm excited to have Rick Smith on the show.

    During our discussion, you'll discover:

-Molecular hydrogen has been a hot topic in the biohacking and health community. What is so special about molecular hydrogen and what do people want it for? [1:37]

    • Demand for health and wellness beverage products are on the rise, in the double digits
    • People are looking for something healthy, with antioxidants, and other things that help improve their lifestyle. You can have something healthy that also tastes good. These two things are not mutually exclusive
    • You can add molecular hydrogen to any carbonated beverage and it does not make any discernible difference in taste so you are adding a ton of antioxidants without affecting the taste
    • Hydrogen neutralizes and scavenges free radicals and can up-regulate and down-regulate your cellular tissue.
    • Then it reacts with the hydroxyl free radical, one of the most damaging free radicals, and results in H2O with zero byproduct
    • H2, molecular hydrogen, is the lightest molecule in the entire universe

-What are the benefits and health advantages of hydrogen in humans? [6:40]

    • The studies began in the early 2000s in Japan, over 1,000 published articles and a good portion are in human studies
    • The three main benefits include prolonged endurance, reduced lactic acid buildup leading to reduced recovery time post-workout, and improved cognitive function
    • The majority of your hydrogen is in your brain
    • Rick has a molecular hydrogen drink in the afternoon instead of a coffee and it clears his head, you feel so much better
    • In general, people feel it flushes out the negative energy and they feel refreshed. It's not an energy drink. It's a natural product, not a "borrow from tomorrow" product so you don't crash right after

-Other than HyVida, what are some other methods and options for using molecular hydrogen? [10:25]

    • This is an emerging and rising science and category
    • There are 4 or 5 brands delivering it via a ready-to-drink beverage. There are dietary supplements and they dissolve in water like an Alka Seltzer, creating bubbles and you consume it. There are companies that have machines and you can pour yourself a glass of hydrogen-infused water. There are some folks working on hydrogen gas mixed with air and you breathe it.

-HyVida is the first hydrogen-infused sparkling water. What is the advantage to having it be a sparkling water? [12:45]

    • When you add the hydrogen molecules to still water, they are so small you can't discern it on your palate. There were already a few molecular hydrogen still waters on the market and so I thought by adding it to sparkling water it would be a disruptor in the space.
    • How do you build a brand? It has to taste great and it has to be fun, and sparkling water is fun.
    • It has zero calories, zero sweeteners and sugars, no caffeine. Their Pure product is non-flavored and they have 2 flavored varieties using certified organic extracts as flavors, so it's like if you just squeezed a few drops of lemon and lime with nothing else added.
    • So HyVida provides functional enjoyment. You get the enjoyment without the guilt, which is why they trademarked it as Sparking Water 2.0. It's not a fast follower or a "Me Too" product.

-Is it possible to consume too much hydrogen? [17:18 ]

    • There have been a number of animal studies where they have seen zero side effects. There's hundreds of published studies and in every single one, there doesn't seem to be any known side effects.
    • [18:00 inaudible] Even if you ingest it in liquid form, when you exhale, to a certain extent, you give it off and put it out without it giving any potential side effect.

-One of the reasons people are turning to molecular hydrogen is the ability to gather free radicals and to decrease cancer-forming molecules. Many people think antioxidants from food can kill off free radicals just like that. Why aren't antioxidants enough and why is hydrogen possibly a better option? [18:40]

    • [19:00 answer inaudible]
    • The free radicals are in your body as a symptom of your lifestyle, so antioxidants alone are not going to do it.
    • Also with antioxidants like Vitamin C there's still some unstable byproducts that are created after they neutralize the free radical so they are still going to remain and wreak havoc, looking for a free electron and borrowing it from your healthy tissues.
    • Hydrogen is a cell-signaling modulator so it's a kind of preventative medicine, it's telling your cells to stop producing free radicals. So from that perspective, it is slightly superior to the plant-based antioxidants, based on the research that I could gather.

-How important was it for you guys to leave out the unnecessary fillers and nasty ingredients? [21:28]

    • I've had so many people tell me I should add caffeine to it. Here's how I looked at it. Hydrogen has a pure simplicity when you think about it and how it works. From that standpoint, you have to let it stand out and let it shine. It's so disruptive on it's own, without adding anything to it. The simplest design is usually the most elegant.
    • When you look at the ingredients here's what you see: carbonated water, magnesium, and hydrogen. And I added the magnesium for two reasons. One, because it is a critical mineral for your health, and two, because it helps to further differentiate. The same target audience that would value hydrogen would value magnesium, and because of the magnesium it gets people to embrace the product.
    • Magnesium is an amazing electrolyte, and as a mineral it takes the acidic pH of sparkling water from about 3.5 to about 4.5, so it's about 10x less acidity on your teeth, because pH is a logarithmic system. It also means that when you drink it, it's much more smooth.
    • The acidity in other brands begins to overpower the other flavors, so what do you do, you add more flavor. So in this case I throttle back the acidity so it's not as acidic as other products. And magnesium is great for the nervous system and for anxiety.
    • So in concert, the hydrogen and magnesium work together beautifully in your body. So it's as simple as you can get. We have the most pure, simple ingredients, the best tasting, and the most functional without any calories or sweeteners and so forth.
    • There's potential for line extensions, if anyone out there is a beer drinker I've added it to beer.

-People are getting more focus when they drink it towards the end of the day. Are there any other reports from people of the benefits of drinking HyVida that you know of? [27:36]

    • There's been reports of hydrogen's impact on inflammation, memory and cognition, and Alzheimer's. I've personally had people contact me about respiratory function. For example, someone had a collapsed lung due to a reaction to medication. He's in his 40's and put on weight due to his inability to exercise, and for an hour post-consumption he can workout and has been able to lose some weight.

-What demographic are your biggest consumers of HyVida? [29:57]

    • First we targeted the people who would typically drink sparkling water, women aged 20-50. We also targeted energy drinkers and men. We looked at who shops at Whole Foods and Sprouts Markets and it's typically about 70% women who make the buying decisions for the household. And I'm a man in my 40's and if my wife buys something healthy, I drink it, and I like it, then she'll continue to buy it. So our demographic is approximately 60% women and 40% men.
    • On Amazon we are starting to see a lot of people in their 40's and 50's who realize they don't have the same level of health and bravado as they did in their early 30's and they have a little more disposable income and who have some influencing power.

-So what's the future for HyVida and what do you hope to achieve with it? [33:12]

    • The sky's the limit. It seems that people are sticking with it once they try the product. I can see the more progressive companies offering it to their employees rather than a cup of coffee or energy drink due to its effects on cognitive function and memory.
    • Certain hospitals are adding it to saline products because surgery is extremely traumatic and there's a lot of inflammation that is created to help with the surgery and post-op.
    • One of his earliest investors heard about molecular hydrogen because he had knee surgery and they were doing knee flushes with hydrogen-infused water to help reduce the inflammation

-Hydrogen is a gas and when you open it, the gas escapes. So what is the window for drinking it after you open a bottle of HyVida? [36:31]

    • As with anything that is carbonated, it will go flat eventually after you open it. The best is to determine the half life: after what time have you lost half of the hydrogen? It's between 45 and 60 minutes. If you really want the functional benefit, you should consume a 12 ounce can within 30 minutes.

-Can you comment on adding HyVida to cocktails for hydration? [38:01]

    • If you think about, where are the wasted calories? In a gin and tonic, there's some sugars and calories in the tonic so if you replace it with a raspberry HyVida and it actually tastes lighter, smoother, and it has the antioxidants so it can help combat some of the oxidative stress caused by the alcohol.

-What is HyVida's overarching vision for where you want to take people in terms of their health? [39:49]

    • From a hydrogen perspective, everyone can benefit. From little children to elderly people at the end of their life.
    • This gets in on the preventative side, and culturally we are going to embrace the holistic, preventative, and alternative side of things more.

-What are your plans for 2019 to get maximum exposure for HyVida? [43:18]

    • Our goal is to get into 2,000 stores this year. We are strategically targeting stores out east and pushing west in 2020.
    • The first goal is to get in the stores, then to get the product off the shelves.
    • We are also focusing on education, first about molecular hydrogen as a whole, then for HyVida specifically.

-Who are your competitors now and what makes you guys different? [47:37]

    • Our direct competitors now are the more established sparkling waters and functional waters.

-Where can people find HyVida now and in the future? [50:12]

    • We're in about 100 stores in metro-New York in a lot of smaller independent stores. We're in eastern PA, and we're in a lot of the independent health and wellness stores. In Minneapolis we are in Kowalsky's and we just got into Giant of Carlisle Martin in 140 stores in Pennsylvania. We've gotten verbal commitment from a few other chains but we won't be able to be in stores until February up to May, but I can't really comment on which ones.

-I'm in Wyoming right now. Do you guys have plans to bring it out west any time soon? [52:16]

    • We want to focus first on concentrating geographically, getting the narrative right on how to sell it and position it, tweaking the label, and once that gets refined, then you can cascade it out.
    • So 2020 we will be looking to parts of California and it's just a matter of time. And it's available on Amazon right now.

-If the world is ending today and you could eat anything for your last meal, what would it be? [54:17]

    • I would have a seafood feast with grilled asparagus and broccoli sprouts, wash it down with a HyVida and maybe a chardonnay.

-If you had one last week to live, in perfect health, and could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? [55:49]

    • I would take my wife and kids someplace where we can learn something together like New Zealand or Peru where we can experience some amazing things together.

-Last Question: If you had one piece of advice for anyone out there listening to live a better life, what would it be? [56:42]

    • What's your motto or your creed? For me, it's "Die with memories, not with dreams".
      • I had to make the decision: Do I go work for someone else or do I go for it and start something?
      • No matter what happens, I'm going to have fantastic memories and I'm going to give it my all.
    • Know your motto and live by it.
    • If you have limited experiences, you're just boring.

-Are there any hashtags people can use on Instagram or Facebook? [59:51]

    • #HydrogenWater helps you discover new and emerging products.
    • You can meet health and wellness influencers who have tried competitors' products and you can build a relationship with them.

    -And much more...
