The Unbusy Mom: Because you’re ambitious, you want to grow your business, and you still want a life.

You’re ambitious. You want the money, the challenge, the launches, the strategy, the satisfaction of figuring out a hard problem and thinking, yep, I nailed that.

So how did we end up here?

Working all day and still not getting to the thing you actually wanted to do. Feeling pulled in a million directions. Putting your own projects off again. Being the CEO of your business and somehow also the COO of everybody else’s life.

‘Cause you can make the launch work. The kids’ schedules work. The team work. The Sunday night work. The vacation-with-the-laptop work.

You can make almost anything work.

Until you look up and think… wait. Why am I doing all of this?

I’m Alyssa, and I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to build a business I love without making my entire life revolve around keeping it running.

On The Unbusy Mom, we’re going to question some of the things you’ve probably accepted as just how business works.

We’ll talk about motherhood, ambition, Human Design, time management, delegation, productivity…. And the invisible responsibilities that make your business feel heavier than it needs to be.

I.e., what actually has to change when you want a business AND a life. Because I don’t think you’re here to prove how much you can carry.

Because I don’t think you’re here to prove how much you can carry.

You wanted it all – business AND kids.

So you’re going to have to make some changes to the structure of the one you’ve already got.

Ever wondered how to avoid power plays with your small children?

In this podcast interview with Shannon Teguh, I’m chatting with Shannon about what child development windows are, how they relate to our parenting, and what this educational hack can do for the tone of your home.

Here's a sneak peek of our conversation:

    • I’d love for you to talk about working with your child’s developmental window to avoid power plays - this sounds really interesting!
    • I’m newly diving into child-led instruction for all 5 of my kids – preschool to high school – so I’d love to learn more from you about this. It sounds like exactly what we're trying to do.
    • Anything else you’d like to tell us about this as it relates to parenting, mom life, and des-stressing your day?

Why you need to stop taking responsibility for other people’s stuff if you're working from home (aka, fix your stuff problem for good with this minimalism hack!) Dec 20, 2022
    Show notes

Q: Want to know the fastest way to reduce your tidy-up responsibilities?

A: Stop picking up everyone else’s stuff!

No, I’m serious. If you view a picked-up house as your responsibility, down to the last drawer in the kids’ bathroom, then your tidy-up duties are never going to end.

Now, on the other hand, if you train your school-age-and-up kids to put away their OWN things, then next time someone complains about the bathroom mess, you get to tell them, “Whose fault is it? Put away your share, and call your next sibling to do theirs!”

Because it’s not your fault. Or your problem.

(Unless you skip reminding them to do their own picking up, of course.)

So how can you retrain your brain to NOT straighten every last cushion and put away every single misplaced sock?

    What you’ll learn:

    · Why you can’t be the “stuff rescuer” for your kids

    · How you’re letting your family drown out your simplified spaces (and what to do instead)

    · How to quit the “family stuff manager” role

It’s time to make a sea change in your family’s (lack of) pickup duties.

To nudge them into good tidy-up habits by the simple expedient of refusing to do it for them any longer.

It’s time to start reminding, not tidying.

Watch what happens to your mental load as you release the pressure of being the sole person who picks up around the house.

    You’ve got this!
