    Episode 51: Why isn't the NFL in 4K?! Aug 30, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Jay is back ashore and home just in time to referee a debate between Angelo and Rhea about the new season of The Lincoln Lawyer.
Then, Angelo has FINALLY seen Oppenheimer, so of course Jay needs to spend a few minutes needing out about Christoper Nolan's monumental achievement (even though Angelo did think that it was about 90 minutes too long).
PLUS: Rhea has a throwback to the Blue Skies era on USA Network in with The Chelsea Detective, and Angelo has a CAN'T MISS recommendation with BS High.
All that AND an in-depth discussion about the curious reason why the NFL doesn't broadcast in 4K and whether or not that matters to the average sports fan.
    It's CAN'T MISS PODCASTING!

    Episode 50: $40 A Month for ESPN?!? Aug 23, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Rhea, and Jay are back for a discussion of the recent reveal that if ESPN was spun off into its own Direct-To-Consumer streaming service, it would likely have to cost somewhere between $30-40 to do the programming its currently doing and remain profitable. The gang reveals whether they would ever pay $40 to watch ESPN (SPOILER: that's a big, fat NO!).
The gang then dives into cable TV and whether, for all the bellyaching we've done about it over the last 30 years, we were actually better off with a one stop shop for all our entertainment needs and which of the major streamers is best positioned to become the NEW cable.
PLUS: Rhea reviews the new Gal Gadot movie on British Corner, a look back at Stranger Things on Teen Corner, Angelo reviews the new season of Untold and the sitcom, Fisk.
All that and we haven't even mentioned the discussion of American Gladiators or famous sitcom retools!
    It's another ACTION PACKED episode!

Episode 49: Only Murders in the Building, Hijack, and the Biggest Jerk of All Time Aug 16, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Another action-packed episode recorded on the crystal-blue waters of Bermuda and it's a big one because it's JERK WEEK on The TV Show. The Ringer made a list of the ultimate Pop Culture Jerks and Angelo, something of a jerk connoisseur, has a LOT of opinions about what makes a good jerk (hint: Larry David is NOT one, but Biff Tannen IS).
PLUS: The gang does follow-up on last week's discussion of Hijack, Rhea reviews season 3 of Only Murders in the Building, and Angelo has a review of Netflix's new show, Painkiller.
All that and even MORE with a discussion of whether reality show stars should be in SAG and just how dominant in the ratings pre-season football really is.

    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo and Rhea are at the Jersey Shore and Jay is in Bermuda, but nothing stops this group of TV-obsessed podcasters from putting out their weekly show!
This week, Angelo, Rhea, and Jay celebrate the first Eagles game of the (pre)season with a discussion about the current state of NFL announcing and whether we think Tom Brady is ever going to make it as a color analyst.
Then, a new Ringer article has the crew talking about whether or not quality matters more than quantity when it comes to streaming services.
PLUS: a discussion of a possible Trump trial coming to TV, Angelo reviews the terrific new AppleTV+ series Hijack, Rhea does British and Teen corner, and the Bermuda telecom service somehow manages to keep the zoom connection strong through the entire show!
ALL THAT AND MORE! IT'S A CAN'T MISS EPISODE!

Episode 47: Remembering Sinéad O'Connor and the TV Controversies of the Past Aug 02, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

We lost two major figures this week and the gang talks about both of them: first Sinéad O'Connor, rightly or wrongly, is best remembered for ripping up a picture of the pope during her live SNL appearance in the 90s. Angelo, Jay, and Rhea discuss her legacy, how they felt about the event then, and how they feel about it now. This leads to a broader discussion of live TV controversies that they witnessed with their own eyes (SPOILER: Angelo has seen A LOT OF THEM).
The gang also discuss the loss of Paul Reubens, a comedic genius also taken down by a controversy in the 1990s.
PLUS: British and Teen corner, a discussion of Suits, a review The Beanie Bubble, a preview of the August TV we're most excited for, and LOTS MORE!

    Episode 46: Barbenheimer! Jul 26, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Rhea, and Jay are back with reviews of both of the new blockbusters blasting through the land like the fallout from an atomic bomb: Barbie and Oppenheimer!
PLUS: Angelo and Rhea give us an in-depth look at what it was like working at WIP, which was a partner with the NFL, at the same time they were honestly assessing what they saw happening in the NFL. Let's just say that the Eagles were not always thrilled at some of the things they had to say about them!
And, as always, we have British corner, a retro TV pick from Angelo (and it's a great one), and much MUCHmore!

    Episode 45: FOOTBALL TALK! Jul 19, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

It feels like old times as the gang discusses the effect that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike might have on football ratings this year. Will more people watch because there will be less new television? Or will the NFL remain in a bubble unto itself?
PLUS: Angelo reviews the new Wilt Chamberlain documentary on Showtime, Rhea reaches back into the early 2000s for British corner, Jay reviews Mission Impossible 7, and the team gives their best reality TV show picks to see you through the strike!
And to think, they managed to do all that even WITH Angelo's technical difficulties!
Here's the link to that fabulous Don Van Natta article on ESPN!

Episode 44: The Best Sketch Show of All Time Is... Jul 12, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

The AV Club put out their list of "The 30 Best Sketch Shows of All Time" and BOY did they ever make a few mistakes (SNL is number 13?! Really AV Club?!). The gang discusses sketch shows, which one is the best ever, and Jay makes a strong case that everyone should be watching I Think You Should Leave.
PLUS: The gang talks about how the WGA strike might be affected by the fact that there is SO MUCH TV to watch right now. Jay takes a walk down memory lane (did you have a subscription to TV Guide and examine it like the Talmud every Fall?), Rhea does British Corner, and Angelo and Jay's daughter both agree that Judd Nelsons' nostrils are TOO BIG (trust us, it makes sense in context).
It's another ACTION PACKED episode and you're not gonna want to miss it!
(You can check out the YouTube channel Jay mentioned in this episode by clicking HERE: warning, there's a LOT of amazing old TV here and it might keep you occupied for many months!)

Episode 43: The Bear, Fatal Attraction, and Jay Gets Weird Jul 05, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Rhea, and Jay are back to continue discussing the best TV show of the The Bear, which leads to a discussion as to whether it's better for a series to drop its whole season at once or if it's better to dole them out one episode a week.
And THAT leads Jay into the most demented monologue he's had on the show, yet. In Rhea's words: "Your family needs to come home from Europe AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!" You won't want to miss it.
PLUS: Angelo reviews Fatal Attraction, British Corner, Teen Corner, and a sneak peek at next week's craziness!
The TV Show is a weekly podcast hosted by Jay Black, with regular guests Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes. Each week, we dive into the new Golden Age of Television, with a discussion of the latest shows and news.

Episode 42: Wait, is THE BEAR the BEST show on TV?! Jun 28, 2023
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Rhea, and Jay return to discuss the first half of Season 2 of The Bear and Angelo is ready to put episode 6 in the pantheon of The Greatest TV Episodes Ever Aired. So, you get some idea how the gang feels about the season!
Then, Jesse Watters is taking over for Tucker Carlson and the big question is whether any personality can save Fox News's nosediving ratings. Angelo, Jay, and Rhea try to determine whether there are any other personalities so big that they could take a whole network down with them.
PLUS: British Corner and Teen Corner, a review of You Hurt My Feelings AND No Hard Feelings, and an in-depth discussion of which streaming service won't be around 12 months from now!
It's an ACTION-PACKED episode and you won't want to miss it!
