Episode 91: Will Smith, Caitlin Clark, and Charles Barkley Jun 05, 2024
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Jay, and Rhea are back to discuss whether or not Will Smith's new movie -- and first major release since "The Slap Heard Round the World" -- will make money this weekend. The Bad Boys franchise is certainly beloved and the Box Office is certainly desperate for a hit, but will audiences return to watch Will on the big screen after we saw his true nature at the Oscars?
Then, they dive into the Caitlin Clark controversy that is gripping the WNBA and the collateral damage that it's doing to commentators on ESPN who don't know how to keep their big mouths shut.
And old friend of the pod, David Zaslov, makes another appearance in the ongoing series of "stupidest decisions a media company exec has ever made" as it looks like Charles Barkley and the NBA have possibly made their last appearances on TNT.
All that PLUS: the British and Teen Segment from Rhea, Angelo's review of a movie that he calls one of the best he's ever seen, Jay is desperate to try to watch some Phillies games despite being a cord cutter, and even MORE GOOD CONTENT!

    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Jay, and Rhea are back for a discussion about CBS's decision to cancel So Help Me Todd, despite the fact that it ended its second season on a huge cliffhanger and, as per usual, Angelo has some strong ideas about how all shows should treat season finales.
The gang then discusses the passing of Morgan Spurlock and the legacy of his landmark 2004 documentary, Super Size Me.
And then, Jay has a review of Furiosa and Angelo thinks he's absolutely insane for liking the Mad Max movies. Did you see the movie? Did you love it as much as Jay did? Click the link above and let us know your thoughts!
All the PLUS: British and Teen Corner, For All Mankind, and the possible comeback of Michael Richards!

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Jay, and Rhea are back to do discuss a topic suggested by YOU, our listeners: Francis Ford Coppola's brand new movie is Megalopolis, a $150 million, self-funded passion project that debuted at Cannes this week. It just so happened that also debuting this week at Cannes was Horizon: An American Saga, Kevin Costner's $75 million, self-funded passion project. The gang discusses whether these men, at the ends of the careers, are being brave or foolish... or both.
(If you'd like to suggest a topic, click on the "send us a text message" button at the top of this page and tell us what you're interested in!)
Also discussed this episode: the video portal between New York and Dublin that people immediately defiled, Signora Volpe, Modern Family, THREE new books about the TV and movie industry, and... something that Angelo has never, ever seen before on mainstream TV.
You'll have to listen to find out exactly what that was!

    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Jay, and Rhea have a knock-down, drag-out fight over Unfrosted, the new Jerry Seinfeld Netflix movie that wastes about 10 million megawatts of star power on a thin premise and an even thinner script. Who hated it? Who loved it? You'll have to listen to find out.
PLUS, we dig into the reports that the NBA is about to get a record payday. Is their average of 3 million viewers per playoff game really worth the second-richest deal in TV history?
Rhea has British and Teen Corner, and Angelo has a review of an intriguing new documentary on Hulu called The Contestant. Also, we talk A Man in Full and Equalizer 3.

    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Jay, and Rhea are back to discuss Jerry Seinfeld's comments about comedy getting too politically correct -- is the left making it more difficult to be funny?
Then, they discuss the NBA's insane decision to schedule Thursday's game between the Sixers and the Knicks at 9 PM. These are two east coast teams, so why would the powers that be have them finish play at midnight?!
Plus, Boomer and Phil Simms are out at CBS, does this signal a shift towards a younger demographic for NFL pregame shows (whose commentators have an average age of approximately 211 years old)?
The gang also discuss the 50th anniversary of The Sting, discusses Netflix's Boiling Point, The Boys on Amazon Prime, Elsbeth on CBS, The Sympathizer on Max, and MORE!
Seriously, you're not going to find more TV packed into a half hour than this show! You've got to start listening RIGHT NOW!

Also, the gang discusses the new Taylor Swift album, the ratings for the Billy Joel concert, the new Netflix series, A Man in Full, and the ethics of AI in documentaries.

    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Angelo, Rhea, and Jay do a deep dive on everything involving the series finale of Curb -- was it so good that it retroactively made the much-maligned Seinfeld finale better?! Should Larry David be put in the pantheon of great TV creators? And, where does Curb rank on Angelo's all-time list of great TV sitcoms?
Then, the gang discusses the walloping that the women's NCAA finale gave the men's final in the ratings. Was this a one-time thing or is there something deeper at work with how the networks schedule these events?
All that, plus British Corner, Teen Corner, reviews of The Girls on the Bus and Ripley by Angelo and a review of Monkey Man by Jay!
