Good People,
Today, Mike Budden joins us to talk about the hardships of the entrepreneurial journey and the advantages of seeing every situation in life, mistakes included - as a possibility to learn. Mike is a Lead Physician Assistant, a healthcare entrepreneur, investor, and founder of the Concierge Membership Service - CureRated.
Mike's truth was the realization that he cannot control people's actions. As a healthcare specialist, he knew he could influence patients to make the right health choices, but the final decision was always not his. Embracing that truth removed massive stress out of Mike's life.
Our conversation revolved around Mike's work ethic, and how working as a door manager at the hottest NYC nightclubs, put him in touch with a different perspectives on making money. We also delve into Mike's relationship with entrepreneurship; we analyze the healthcare system through the lens of hospitality, his decision to become an entrepreneur, the powerful lessons that failed entrepreneurial endeavors can teach, and the two choices we have after every defeat in life.

Good People,
Adrion Porter joins us for this week’s episode of The Truth Prescription. Adrion is a brand strategist, speaker, and consultant with a wealth of experience. Prior to starting his own brand strategy and consulting firm (AP & Company), he held top positions at Cartoon Network, HBO and Citigroup. Adrion is also the host of the podcast, GenXAmplified, a personal growth and leadership show that focuses on GenXers who are at a crossroads in their careers.
Adrion shares his personal and professional truths about not taking life for granted, living it to the fullest and the importance of cultivating a vision for your life.
One of my mottos is: One Life to Live. This episode is full of gems on how we can make this one life, the best life
Time Stamps:
[8:13] Personal Truth: Adrion has a number of truths - he attributes this to constant growth and evolution; the more we learn, the more the truth reveals itself. He narrows his professional truth down to a recent revelation. Within the past 5 years, he’s experienced a number of large life events, some positive and some marked with sadness. Within a short amount of time, a number of his friends and family members passed away. Those losses taught him the value of ensuring that he takes life seriously and doesn’t take it for granted. He also learned the value of making sure that you become the best of who you are and being good to people.
[20:47] Professional Truth: Adrion talks to us about tuning into his life purpose and the evolution that led to its discovery. He studied marketing in school because he enjoyed it, it was a passion - one that eventually evolved into others. At this stage in his life and in his career, he realizes that he’s always been driven to help people become the best of who they are. As he’s gotten older, he started asking himself “ am I happy? Am I living my purpose? Am I doing what I’m meant to do?” He’s tuned in to his purpose in life, helping others amplify and turn up the volume of their best selves.
[30:15] Adrion breaks down the methodology that he created. It outlines the 5 core areas that he believes are the habits and actions taken by people with powerful brands; whether that's a CEO, parent, community leader, church leader, etc. It’s someone who, Adrion says “when people think about them, when they’re not around, they have a great feeling. They’re empowered.”
5 Point Roadmap to Career, Professional and Personal Development:

[41:38] We talk about legacy - how important it is to think about what we leave behind and making sure that we do today is “affecting change that will make an impact when we’re gone.” Adrion points out that we have such an opportunity, now, being in this information/social age. It’s made it possible for us to leave something behind for our generations to come. He talks about how my great-great-great-great grandchildren will be able to tap into these doss of truth and that ability to archive is important to understand, especially when thinking about the intention behind what we put out into the world. It comes down to the question, how can we create value? Adrion says that legacy is all about immediate and lasting value that’s, either, archived in content or in someone’s memory

Good People,
Today I'm joined by the world-class decorative artist and author Elisa Stancil Levine. She recently published "This or Something Better: A Memoir of Resilience," a book inspired by Elisa's reaction to the big Sonoma Complex fire in 2017, which is strongly connected with her truth.
Elisa's truth is to realize at age 5 that her life was in her own hands. Abused by her step-grandfather, Elisa soon realized although there were a lot of people around to help, and she needed all of them, no one knew what she knew, and therefore, no one was going to help.
Throughout our conversation, we explore Elisa's past and the moments that marked her destiny. We learn about how she transformed rage into joy, the loss of her first baby, and her drug abuse problems. We also touch on Elisa's remarkable resilience, embracing transparency and permeability, two characteristics any abuse victim would struggle to be in touch with.
In addition, we talk about Elisa's latest book and how it came through, how she redesigned her internal world after all the trauma she went through, and how she resignified human interactions,

Good people,
Today I had the pleasure to speak to a real gem, a very wise woman - Mitra Manesh. She is the founder of the Innermap app, a professor in Mindful Awareness at UCLA, and a coach for 35 years.
Mitra’s truth revolves around the acceptance of death after losing a friend when she was 12 years old. We dive deep into that story and how it changed her life's path extensively and we also talk about the value of the app she created - Innermap - and how it can help people be more conscious. We get into discussing the power of a technique called 'changing the question', why coaching works and why doesn't sometimes, and the reason most people across the globe are feeling unheard.
I encourage you to close your eyes, open your ears, relax, and enjoy this conversation with Mitra.

Time Stamps:
[6:24] Professional Truth - B. always knew that he wanted to be a designer, says he was born with the blessing and jokes that he was really was born with the curse. He had a brief stint working on Wall Street but, as he says, it’s great to know what it is you’re meant to be. He knew very quickly Wall Street wasn’t for him and, after taking a leave of absence, he started designing as a Milliner for the hit show, Dynasty. As soon as he stepped into the truth, all of these great opportunities started opening up for him. Cut to years later, after a successful Fashion Week presentation, his partner noticed that he didn’t have his usual spark. That conversation led to an exploration that resulted in B. coming to the realization that he there were a number of designers with his skin hue who, when they passed away, took their legacies with him. B. wanted to be different, he wanted to be timelines. He set out on a course to create a legacy and a brand that lives beyond him.
[12:40] Personal Truth - B. is an openly gay man and in a relationship with his longtime partner, Mark-Anthony. He was previously married to the mother of his two daughters and feels very fortunate that he can be very clear and open about his personal truth. He got married very young and says the time they spent together was great, they had a lot of fun. However, as they grew up, they realized that they should have remained friends. They amicably separated, remained friends and co-parented their daughters. Much like with his work, B. has always been who he is, he just had to realize it. He talks to us about his process of reconciling with his faith and religion, and taking the courageous step to live an authentic life.
[17:03] Becoming Timeless: B. once said in an interview that he wants his pieces to be timeless, that intrigued me and I ask him how one becomes timeless in business? He says it’s important to have a business model that’s proven and sustainable, and that you have to be willing to continuously reinvent and then reinvent again until your formula is refined. B. says the timeless businesses understand the need to continually evolve.
[20:05] Relationships Versus Friendships: I ask B about his approach to relationships and how he curates and maintains a bond with those close to him?. He that says he’s learned that relationships are with the people who are there for you always, the people that are there for the everyday: the rain days, the high days and the low days. Friendships, he says is a term that’s used very loosely these days, they are with the people that you have dinner with, could also be with those that you do business with.

This week’s Truth Prescription brings, both, our 50th Episode and a quick dose of truth from Dr. Seku.
Throwback Episode from March 2019
We’ve all heard the saying that “perception is reality,” it can also be fantasy. Dr. G talks about an experience on a career panel and how the panelist’s perception was based on fantasy and possibly racial stereotypes.
He also speaks truth to facing his own perceptions and how that led him down a dangerous path of making assumptions about a celebrity guest without any real evidence.
This realization (perception v fantasy is something all professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs should ponder, as you navigate the often murky waters of life, love and commercial activity.
