Episode 754: Disembodied Eating with Michelle Cleary Sep 11, 2023
    Show notes

Michelle Cleary (she/her) is a licensed psychotherapist who is trained in EMDR, holds a certificate in Somatic Experiencing™ (SE), assists at SE trainings throughout the year, is a former adjunct professor for SUNY Stony Brook, School of Social Welfare, and maintains a full time private practice that focuses on treating trauma and eating disorders. Why? Why so much learning and work?
Well, because after decades of her own life saving, nurturing therapy, Michelle still struggled with strong eating disorder behaviors, regular bouts of depression, mood shifts, anxiety, and overwhelm. These challenging experiences were interspersed during a time when she was also succeeding, building healthy relationships, learning, and creating. Michelle was happier and healthier than ever but was STILL living with a lot of challenging experiences.
Michelle is now dedicated to discovering, understanding, and teaching others the way our nervous system and brain-body development contributes to our moods, behaviors, relationships, mental health, and productivity.

Episode 751: Project 2 Heal with Charlie Petrizzo Aug 24, 2023
    Show notes

Charlie was born and raised in Staten Island, New York and as a young adult he moved to Old Bridge and later Millstone, New Jersey. His success in the financial services industry allowed him to rise through the ranks of First Union/Wachovia, ultimately leading him and his wife, Sandy, of 30 years, and their two daughters, Melissa and Kristen, to Charlotte. He assumed the role of the director of sales, marketing and product development for the Wachovia Insurance Group, a legacy Wells Fargo company; he left the company in 2003.
His story of surviving two tragic accidents, including the major brain trauma of a car accident and an “electrocution” in which he burned over two thirds of his body, became the focus of the 2012 award winning docu-drama called Charlie’s Scars.
The inspiration for the founding of Project 2 Heal came in part from Charlie’s recognition of the care he needed and received from his parents during, and after, his two trials from the accidents, but also from the recognition of how many friends offered to help his family during that time.

The Body Keeps The Score. Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D: from the archives Aug 23, 2023
    Show notes

This is a republishing of an archived episode with Bessel A. van der Kolk.
Bessel A. van der Kolk M.D. is a clinician, researcher and teacher in the area of posttraumatic stress. His work integrates developmental, neurobiological, psychodynamic and interpersonal aspects of the impact of trauma and its treatment.
Dr. van der Kolk and his various collaborators have published extensively on the impact of trauma on development, such as dissociative problems, borderline personality and self-mutilation, cognitive development, memory, and the psychobiology of trauma. He has published over 150 peer reviewed scientific articles on such diverse topics as neuroimaging, self-injury, memory, neurofeedback, Developmental Trauma, yoga, theater and EMDR.
He is founder of the Trauma Center in Boston; past President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University Medical School. He regularly teaches at universities and hospitals around the world.
His most recent 2014 New York Times Science best seller, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma transforms our understanding of traumatic stress, revealing how it literally rearranges the brain’s wiring—specifically areas dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control, and trust. He shows how these areas can be reactivated through innovative treatments including neurofeedback, mindfulness techniques, play, yoga, and other therapies.
I remember I first encountered Dr. van der Kolk’s work in graduate school. I came across his article, The Body Keeps The Score, and thought to myself, "Oh my God, this is it. This makes perfect sense. This is what I want to do."
I went on to read his other book, Traumatic Stress: The Effects of Overwhelming Experience on Mind, Body, and Society, and was equally inspired by that.
Now, of course, his most recent work, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma, has been informing and inspiring not just trauma workers, but individuals who’ve been impacted by trauma, as well.

    Something Special: MEDIA+ Aug 21, 2023
    Show notes

    I’m excited to announce—MEDIA+
MEDIA+ is the new division of our company through which we’re going to be helping mental health practitioners of all kinds promote their incredible work and brands, and share it with the people who want and need to hear it.
I’ve been fortunate over the course of the past several years to create a sizable social presence. The Trauma Therapist Podcast receives hundreds of thousands of downloads per month and we have thousands of followers across our social media channels.
I’d like to offer you the opportunity to utilize this platform to promote your work, whether it’s a book you have launching, or a course, or even your private practice.
Here’s how we’ll promote your work and brand:

    1. Social Media PLUS Advertising: we’ll work closely with you to create an eye-catching graphic (consisting of an image, text and link to your service/offering, as well as to your episode on the podcast) and we we’ll post this out across our social channels.
    2. Video Clips: I’ll do a short (15-minute) interview with you in which you’ll share about you and your offer (your course, workshop, book, event, program etc.) and we’ll use this to create dynamic video clips that will go out across our social channels including Tik Tok and Youtube!
    3. Your Own Sponsor Spot: The sponsor spot is exactly what we offer our regular sponsors. This includes text created by you and then recorded by Guy that will then be played in the mid-roll spot across our catalogue of 700+ interviews!
    Who is this for?
We’re looking to help promote anyone in the mental health field who’s passionate about what they’re doing and who want to reach more people. This means therapists and/or coaches of any kind.
You do not have to be licensed to take advantage of this opportunity.*
    How does it work?
Once you make your purchase, you’ll receive a receipt with information and I will then be in touch with you about next steps such as images you’d like to use for social posts, information about scheduling your interview, and the text/copy for your sponsor spot!
I look forward to working with you!
