Man City school Arsenal, while Chelsea are just sad to watch Apr 27, 2023
    Show notes

Jimbo’s back and joined for a special late night pod by Duncan Alexander, Tom Williams and Matt Davies-Adams.

It was billed for months as an epic title decider but it didn’t materialise as a Man City masterclass saw Pep’s men wipe the floor with Arsenal at the Etihad. Is the championship race over for Arsenal and is there anything this City side can’t do?

The Gunners will be top dogs in London, while Chelsea may still finish below all their Premier League counterparts in the capital. It’s 5 defeats out of 5 for Frank Lampard. Mauricio Pochettino can’t get there soon enough.

Elsewhere, there’s a massive win for Nottingham Forest against Brighton, Villa continue to impress and Sheffield United are promoted back to the top tier.

The other colossal match-up on Wednesday sees Tom take on Adrian Clarke in the Inter Totally Cup.

    Show notes

Matt Davies-Adams welcomes James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Julien Laurens and Alvaro Romeo into the studio after a seismic weekend across Europe.

Napoli are one win away from the Scudetto after a last-gasp victory in Turin. But it’s Juventus that are dominating the headlines after getting their 15 point deduction overturned. Hear why Serie A is in a cocktail shaker right now.

There’s a big inquest at Bayern as Dortmund overtake them with 5 games to go in the Bundesliga title race. Will Kahn carry the can? And which striker will be the answer to their problems this summer?

Elsewhere, Barcelona see off Atletico with yet another 1-0 as Lionel Messi appears to be packing his 15 suitcases for a return to the Camp Nou.

Plus Alonso, Alexis and Air En-Nesyri.

The Manchester cup final is coming, Man City Arsenal is here and Spurs are sinking fast Apr 24, 2023
    Show notes

Matt Davies-Adams is joined by Carl Anka, Daniel Storey and Liam Tharme after FA Cup semi-final weekend and a pivotal matchday in the Premier League title race.

Manchester United overcome Brighton on penalties to set up a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final. City in the final is a scary prospect when there’s a treble and legacy on the line.

The next big City fixture is in the Premier League on Wednesday, the long-awaited clash with Arsenal at the Etihad. The Gunners stumble spectacularly at home to Southampton on Friday night, with squad depth maybe set to cost them the title.

More North London misery as Tottenham give us possibly the worst start to a game in Premier League history at St James’s Park. After a 6-1 defeat, Daniel Levy needs to appease the fans but will finding the right managerial appointment take patience and quite some selling?

Wrexham are back in the Football League after 15 years away. We ask who wouldn’t want Reynolds and McElhenney in charge of their club?

Plus it’s Rory Smith versus Tim Spiers in the last 16 of the Inter Totally Cup!

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: United and City set up an all Manchester FA Cup final (01.45)

Milan clubs set up a semi-final. Will we see an all Manchester FA Cup final? Apr 20, 2023
    Show notes

Matt Davies-Adams is joined in The Athletic studio by Duncan Alexander, Charlie Eccleshare and Joey D’Urso in a week chock-full of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup action.

Man City ease past Bayern to set up a Champions League semi-final rematch with Real Madrid, as Erling Haaland is agonisingly close to doing a Clive Allen.

Real unsurprisingly sweep aside Chelsea to end their season. How far could the Blues slip down the table over the next 7 games?

The other semi-final will be a Milan derby, thanks partly to the unfashionable fleece Olivier Giroud. James Horncastle tells us why defeat will feel like relegation for the losing side.

It’s FA Cup semi-final weekend and Brighton and Sheffield United are the teams looking to foil a first ever all Manchester final.

The Premier League weekend sees top play bottom and what could be a Champions League play-off between Newcastle and Spurs.

Plus Steven Gerrard at Villa, the last 10 minutes of Gillingham v Leyton Orient, and Duncan versus Producer Charlie in the Inter Totally Cup!

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: Parliamentary crypto affairs (01.00)

Chelsea’s last chance, Inter’s last dance and PSG’ s manager hunt set to advance? Apr 18, 2023
    Show notes

Matt Davies-Adams is in the hot-seat, with James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Julien Laurens and Alvaro Romeo for company.

Napoli trail Milan by a goal in the most delicately balanced Champions League quarter-final. Can the returning Osimhen fire the Serie A leaders to the semi-finals?

It’s mission improbable for Chelsea and Bayern. Can the next manager get the Blues back into the Champions League? And would Bayern be open to selling Sadio Mane?

Domestically, Dortmund somehow threw away a two-goal lead with an extra man in a major dent to their title credentials.

PSG look to have sealed another title but could it be Thiago Motta in the dugout at the Parc Des Princes next season?

And bridges continue to be burned between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: Moment of the weekend (01.30)

    • PART 2a: Napoli v Milan preview (06.30)

Bigging up Bournemouth and Brighton, as complacency costs Arsenal Apr 17, 2023
    Show notes

Jimbo welcomes Daniel Storey, Benji Lanyado and Matt Davies-Adams into the pod after a Premier League weekend that felt very significant.

Arsenal throw away another 2-0 lead as West Ham fans are reminded of the good times in the Moyes marriage. Have the Gunners got complacent and will that Saka penalty miss prove to be the pivotal moment in the title race?

Chelsea and Tottenham are both humbled at home by South Coast opposition as we salute Brighton and Bournemouth. Could Gary O’Neil be one of the best caretakers of all time?

Elsewhere, is the top 4 race all done and dusted and how much is Ollie Watkins wishing there was a summer World Cup?

Plus Benji takes on Matt in the first matchup of the Inter Totally Cup 2023!

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: Arsenal slip up at West Ham while Man City keep on winning (03.00)

Pep’s proper football beats Bayern as lethargic Leicester look to Smith Apr 13, 2023
    Show notes

It’s Jimbo, Jack Lang, Tom Williams and Adrian Clarke at Totally HQ to discuss all the red-hot Champions League and Premier League action.

We witness the highest level of football as Man City dismantle Bayern 3-0 at the Etihad. Raphael Honigstein tells us about the Sane-Mane bust-up and why Bayern don’t have buyer’s remorse over Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea might be feeling more remorseful when it comes to Tuchel as Frank Lampard’s side are easily swept aside by Real Madrid. They’re a mid-table side and a team of individuals.

Dean Smith is the new Leicester manager. He needs to get them running if they’re to have any chance of staying up. Plus it’s Watkins v Isak and red-hot Villa v red-hot Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime.

Also on the agenda, Wrexham, East 17 and Gary O’Neil at the gym

Plus it’s the draw for the Inter Totally Cup 2023!

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: Man City 3-0 Bayern, with Raphael Honigstein (03.00)

Calcio is back, Champions League returns but where have all the goal scorers gone? Apr 11, 2023
    Show notes

Jimbo and the Euro collective of James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Julien Laurens and Alvaro Romeo cast their eyes over all the weekend and midweek action.

The Champions League returns with Guardiola v Tuchel, Ancelotti v Lampard and an under pressure Inzaghi at Inter.

Meanwhile Maurizio Sarri is back on song with Lazio who look like a proper Sarri side and should be playing Champions League football next season.

On paper Sevilla shouldn’t have much chance against Man United in the Europa League but they make a lot more sense than they did under Sampaoli.

A debate over Dusan Vlahovic leads us to ask where have all the goal scoring strikers disappeared to, across Europe.

Plus a fair few feuds - Valverde v Buena, Cassano v Mourinhoand Galtier v Nice ultras.

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: Moment of the weekend (02.00)

    • PART 2: Champions League quarter-final previews (07.00)

Haaland, Hodgson and a hell of a game at Anfield Apr 10, 2023
    Show notes

Jimbo, Carl Anka, Duncan Alexander and Tim Spiers are with you after a pulsating Premier League weekend and one of the games of the season.

Arsenal are pegged back from 2-0 up to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield. But given the late onslaught, will it turn out to be a crucial point for the Gunners in the title race?

Man City are in the ascendancy with Erling Haaland continuing to make our league look like a farmer’s league. And Jedi Roy Hodgson manifests an incredible 5-1 win for Palace at Elland Road.

Leicester are looking doomed to the drop while we ask given all the refereeing wrongs they’ve suffered this season, should Brighton be awarded some more points?

Burnley are rolling on a river all the way back to the Premier League. Andy Jones tells us what to expect after Vincent Kompany’s side secure promotion

Plus the Tete-Solanke half and half scarf and Lionel Richie visits Wycombe.

    Produced by Charlie Jones.

    Show notes

Jimbo, Duncan Alexander, Charlie Eccleshare and Jon Mackenzie are back in a week packed full of Premier League football and yet more managerial movement.

Frank Lampard is back at Chelsea as interim manager until the end of the season. He needs to introduce more spirit at Stamford Bridge and more chairs at Cobham.

Newcastle thrash West Ham 5-1 in a game so odd it could be considered a one-off. And a big weekend beckons, with leaders Arsenal hoping their excellent away record can stand the test of time at Anfield.

Plus why Leeds have been lucky, that Ferguson flick and Tottenham’s eyes on De Zerbi.

    Produced by Charlie Jones.
