Rather than give you a run down of the top UFO stories of 2019, I thought I'd take a look at what other people were saying were the top UFO stories of the year and rendering judgement on their choices.

Just a few minutes of fun and a bit of information to ease you into the New Year. The next full length episode drops on January 8!

The Saucer Life Holiday Special Dec 24, 2019

Show notes

Episode Notes

This went through numerous title choices before settling on this, simultaneously an apt description and an homage to another "Holiday Special" that had nothing to do with any particular real holiday. We've got fan fiction, we've got classic saucer poetry, we've got all three of our regular guest voices--Sasha, Roberta, and Nelson--along for the ride, we've got something a bit light and fun (hopefully) before coming back in the New Year.

Well, the poem "Experiments" is any thing but fun. Depending on how you define "fun."

Enjoy whatever holidays you're celebrating, if any, and thanks for being with us throughout 2019.

*NOTE: There was supposed to be a clip of Bea Arthur from a certain sci fi franchise's Holiday Special in here, but the Cheeso Media legal team advised against it!*

The Secret Grudges of Bill English Dec 11, 2019

Show notes

Episode Notes

William S. "Bill" English is, maybe, the forgotten "Bill" of 80s and 90s UFOlogy. his claims were extraordinary. His story was exciting and entertaining. Featuring clips from some classic UFO radio programming, and from the infamous 1989 MUFON conference, this was a fun episode to put together and we think it's a bit of a sleeper.

Special thanks to some folks who pointed us in some directions and provided some background: Adam Gorightly, Jack Brewer of the UFO Trail, and one of our behind-the-scenes heroes, Jack Shepherd.

The Mysterious Mitchell Sisters Nov 27, 2019

Show notes

Episode Notes

No apologies, this one was a bit of a labor of love, and I can't believe I got a whole episode out of the Mitchell Sisters, a pair of 1950s contactees from St. Louis, Missouri. This is a contact tale, but also the story of what happens when a story gets abandoned through the disappearance of its original tellers.

Featuring the debut of Saucer Fanfic Theater!

90s Magazine Mixtape Nov 13, 2019

Yes, that tape recorder was used in the making of this episode, at the suggestion of Associate Producer Simpson Hanover. THUS--the audio sounds....like it was recorded on a tape recorder. Although, it's an exceptionally high quality tape recorder.

In this episode we return to the 90s and return to our Zine Scene strand of episodes, with a great and hopefully surprising or intriguing selection.

Happy Halloween, if you're seeing this on release day.

An appropriate topic for the holiday, I think--things that go bump in the night outside of isolated farmhouses, a story that exists in the netherworld of saucer story and monster tale, and one of the few incidents that makes it difficult for me to sleep if I think about it too close to bedtime.

Come with us to Christian County, Kentucky. Don't bother to bring your shotgun.

Storm Hangar 18! Sep 18, 2019

Show notes

Episode Notes

Not to be topical or anything, but all during the summer of 2019 we were getting geared up to Storm Area 51--and that's great and all, but I thought that Hangar 18 at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton needed some love, so here we are. In this episode, we examine the history of the notion that there's a place the government takes saucer debris, the emergence of "Hangar 18" itself as an idea, and the ways this has poked through in various parts of the saucer culture over the past few decades.

I spoke about the "Storm Area 51" nonsense on NPR's "It's Been a Minute" a couple months ago. You can hear a bit more about the Aztec crash waaaaay back in Bonus Encounter 1.
