    Show notes

On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Amanda Burzynski & Erin Golden.

Amanda and Erin are moms that both have worked in childcare and education. While home with small children, they started an Instagram account to build connections and share the ups and downs of motherhood. From there, they created a magazine called Sapling. Sapling is a child-focused magazine that includes a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, agriculture-based reading material, seasonal crafts, and fun farm facts. They hope their magazine helps encourage today’s young learners to explore nature and inspire curiosity about agriculture.

The Homesteaders' Way: Changing Careers and Building Futures with Lisa Miller Jul 07, 2023
    Show notes

On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Lisa Miller.

Lisa is the voice behind the two-acre homestead podcast. She was born and raised in the Silicon Valley. The area she grew up in was kind of an interesting mixture; it was part rural and part suburbia. Lisa was raised by two beautiful parents, and her mom has a farming background which played a significant role in her life.

Lisa grew so much of her own food on her property, and she learned a lot about soil health, when to plant and when to harvest. They learned a lot about how to handle her harvest and how to preserve her own food. Lisa learned a lot in Phoenix, too, but Tucson really helped her. Eventually, they moved to this property where they are today on two acres, and it's their hope to teach other people some of the things that they have learned on the way so that their journey into homesteading doesn't have to be fraught with some of the mistakes that they have made.

    Show notes

On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Haley Ammann-Ekstrom.

Haley is a 6th generation cattle farmer from southern Minnesota. She is the first female of those six generations to take over the family business. Haley loves being a part of the agriculture industry and helping younger females find their calling. Haley had many mentors growing up in school and 4-H. She wants to be able to do the same for the youth in her community, to help them find their voice and follow their passions, even if that is in a male dominant industry like agriculture. Growing Up on the Farm: Navigating Challenges and Raising a Family with Arlene Hunter Jun 09, 2023
    Show notes

On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Arlene Hunter.

Arlene and her husband Hugh own and operate Maple-Ain Farms Limited near Smiths Falls, Ontario. A 6th generation family farm, Maple-Ain is home to their herd of purebred Holsteins and one Jersey. They also grow corn, soybeans and hay and are raising their 4 children on the farm, ages 17, 14, 12 and 7.

In 2021, Arlene was approached by her friend Caite Palmer with the idea for the Barnyard Language podcast. Their goal was to create a podcast and an online community for farming, ranching and homesteading parents. Being a parent is hard, but raising kids on the land brings unique challenges and opportunities that other families don’t face. They also wanted to talk to the diverse voices that exist in the parenting and agriculture world.
