The Private Equity Digital Transformation Show

This talk show is about the next big thing in value creation. It is for fund managers and corporate leadership investigating smart digital transformation for their companies, and for service providers, subject matter experts and vendors wanting to broaden their digital skills. Although the show’s focused on value creation in the context of private equity, it’s sector agnostic and can get pretty geeky, digging into IoT, data science (analytics & ML) and other high technology. At a high level, the show is about how to frame the digital investment thesis and how to execute it. Your host, Bruce Sinclair, is an ex-PE operating partner who has written the best-selling books, The Private Equity Digital Operating Partner and IoT Inc, and has certified thousands of professionals with his ICIP program and LinkedIn Learning courses. Season 1 of this show was called, The IoT Inc Business Show.

Sexy Data Science and its Analysis of IoT Sep 07, 2019
    Show notes

First, it was Big Data and now it's the Internet of Things; the science of data is becoming increasingly sexy, maybe not Victoria's Secret sexy but it certainly gets the juices flowing for business leaders in the know. Hot or not? Definitely hot. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Ajit Jaokar about his passion, data science, and the application of machine learning, deep learning and predictive analytics in IoT.

Makin' Bacon and the Three Main Classes of IoT Analytics Aug 23, 2019
    Show notes

In the Internet of Things, there are generally three classes of analytics performed: real-time analytics done of the fly alerting you to anomalies; predictive analytics performed as a post process yielding a prediction and confidence level and descriptive analytics that reports on past, present or future data with visualizations that often result in the biggest insights. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I discuss the differences in these types of analyses with Shepherd Shi, as well as the steps that are taken before and after.

Strategy & Digital Transformation Lessons for the IoT Professional Aug 23, 2019
    Show notes

In my view, delivering outcomes is IoT's killer app. It requires the IoT platform, its technical underpinning, and the IoT ecosystem, its business underpinning, to come together in just the right way. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I share with you three lessons from the ICIP Strategy & Digital Transformation course. The first is an overview of outcomes, also one of the major drivers of every IoT strategy. Then a digital transformation lesson on marketing and finally, an important methodology that should always be employed when starting an IoT offering – Design-Sell-Build.

The Profound Impact of IoT Digital Twins in Supply Networks Aug 12, 2019
    Show notes

The digital twin can be hierarchical – representing environments, systems, products and even parts. When digitizing supply networks with digital twins, the network can be a digital twin of its systems, which can be digital twins of their assets, which can be digital twins of their parts which themselves can be digital twins. Sound complicated? It doesn't need to be. Start at the level of the hierarchy that returns the most value and proceed from there. In this episode of the IoT Business Show I speak with Dr. Lane Warshaw and Aaron Parrott about the digital twin and its profound use in digital supply networks.

The Emergence of the IoT Cognitive Digital Twin Jul 27, 2019
    Show notes

We've discussed the digital twin at length but what is the cognitive digital twin? Is it possible to develop cognitive computing models with our data to endow our digital twin with artificial intelligence? The answer is yes, and in this episode of the IoT Business show, I speak with Dr. Ahmed El Adl about how this is done and the situations where an AI approach to reaching insights may be better than an analytics approach.

Breaking Down and Building Up IoT's Digital Twin Jul 21, 2019
    Show notes

The digital twin is a federation of data and models that can be analyzed or put into a simulation to create useful information about the past, present or future of the DTs physical twin. The type of model and the level of model can make or break the analysis or simulation. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I get down and dirty with Jim Tung, breaking the digital twin down in order to understand this most important tech at both the atomic and system level.

The Digital Twin and its Relationship to the AEP IoT Platform Jul 05, 2019
    Show notes

The IoT platform is generally thought of as networking tech – middleware to connect all the IoT components together – and often it is, but a certain class of platforms, the so-called, application enablement platforms, or AEPs, also provide the development and execution environment for the digital twin. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, the third in a series on the digital twin, I speak with Jason Schern and Jeff Miller about the dt and its relationship to the AEP.

Modeling the Raw Data to create IoTs Digital Twin Jun 28, 2019
    Show notes

The reason the digital twin, or software-defined product, as I prefer to call it, is the most important IoT tech, is because it's the basis for the unique functionality possible from using the Internet of Things. Going beyond smarts or connectivity, it is this unique functionality that creates value, enough value that results in a profitable IoT product. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, the second in a series on the digital twin, I speak with Arnulf Hagen about the underlying models of the digital twin, and the high-level ways you can use them to create value.

Producing the Digital Twin for the Industrial Internet of Things Jun 21, 2019
    Show notes

The digital twin, or software-defined product as I prefer to call it, is the most important tech in IoT, yet you hardly hear anything about it, when compared to other IoT tech such as sensing, networking, and analytics. Maybe it's because it's such a new and abstract concept for most people. Well, that's about to change. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Dimitri Volkmann about producing the digital twin for the Industrial Internet of Things.

The Full Array of Big Data Applied to IoT Jun 14, 2019
    Show notes

Big Data is big! It's another entire industry that's subsumed by the Internet of Things. There's a lot to consider but it all starts with your business information requirements – what you get by transforming the raw sensor data you collect into business value you can use. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Big Data expert Mark van Rijmenam to conclude our seven-part miniseries on analytics by covering the entire array of what's available.
