    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Being a Nasty Neighbor Nov 17, 2022
    Show notes

    The plaintiff and defendant live next door to each other. The plaintiff says the defendant rebuilt his home and there was some brickwork that had potential to fall. He says he tried talking to the defendant about fixing it, but the defendant wouldn’t do it. The plaintiff says he did it himself, so he’s suing for a reimbursement. The defendant argues the plaintiff isn’t telling the full truth about the cost of the reimbursement. He claims the plaintiff hired a defendant to fix the brickwork, and he refuses to pay.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented a leaky apartment the defendant’s ratty house. She moved out, but the defendant refuses to return her security deposit. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says there was only one leak and it was repaired. She alleges she owes the plaintiff nothing.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the careless defendant went through a stop sign on his scooter and ran into him when he had the right of way. Now he won’t reimburse him for the damages and has filed a claim with his insurance. He’s suing for repair costs. The defendant says the plaintiff keeps changing his story and never reported the accident to his insurance. They’re countersuing for hospital bills.

    Not Having Enough Grub to Go Around Nov 16, 2022

    The plaintiffs say they hired the defendant to cater their wedding, but she didn’t make enough food and their poor guests had to order pizza. The defendant ignored them for two years, so now they’re suing for a full refund. The defendant claims the unruly guests ate before the meal and she still had plenty of food. She insists she did an excellent job.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented the defendant a salon suite to do hair, but she moved out with no notice and left the place trashed. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff’s salon was bad for business, and there were physical altercations with other tenants, so she left. She says she owes nothing.

    Losing it All Nov 15, 2022

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to videotape her wedding and he lost all the footage. Not only that, he never gave her any photos. She’s suing the negligent guy for the state max. The defendant claims the video card got damaged at the wedding because it was so chaotic. He won’t give her the photos because she’s posting nasty things about him.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is his wife’s friend. He claims she bought some furniture from him when he moved but hasn’t paid for it in full, so he’s suing. The defendant says she bought a bed, but the mattress was stained with urine. She claims he’s trying to charge her after the fact.

    Going Overboard Nov 14, 2022

    The plaintiff says he took the defendant and his sons on a fishing outing, but the man fell overboard. He dragged an expensive piece of fishing rig with him and it sank, so the plaintiff is suing for its cost. The defendant says the plaintiff should have some sort of business insurance to cover accidents, and he’s not responsible for paying for the lost equipment.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to put in genuine hair dreadlocks, but she used synthetic hair and the plaintiff broke out in a rash. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant insists she used real hair and the plaintiff badmouthed her online. She’s countersuing for defamation.

    UnFriending a Friend Nov 11, 2022

    The plaintiff says she and the defendant went to a ’70s party in Atlantic City and they were supposed to share a suite. She claims the defendant threw her out in the middle of the night, so she’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff got to the room and said it smelled and she didn’t want to stay there. She denies owing a thing.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to fix her fridge, which was freezing over. She says he didn’t repair a thing and he charged her an arm and a leg. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says he told the plaintiff she needed a new part that would take six weeks because of COVID, and she freaked and demanded a refund. He alleges her family also threatened him.

    Chill Out Nov 10, 2022

    The plaintiff says she rented a room in her house to the defendant. She realized it was a huge mistake when she came home one day and the cops were there after the defendant threatened her, so she kicked her out. She’s suing for back rent. The defendant says the plaintiff belittled her, and it felt like living in a jail. She’s countersuing for stolen items.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant wrongly evicted him and called the police on him. Now she won’t return his money or his belongings, so he’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff was a troublemaker who had lots of complaints from female residents, and he was arrested for stalking. She’s countersuing for unpaid rent.

When they did, they claim it was infested with fleas and needed fumigation. They deny owing the plaintiff.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendants are her neighbors, and the son scratched her car with a rock. They refuse to pay for the damages, so she’s suing. The defendant says her son didn’t scratch the car — it was a little girl he was playing with. She denies owing a thing.

He argues he only lit the grass near the container to see the property line. He’s countersuing for storage fees.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant, but he kicked her out with no notice. He’s refusing to return her security deposit, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff didn’t return the key and left the place a mess, so he’s allowed to keep the deposit.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant hired him to do some construction on his house, and now he’s stiffing him on payment. He’s suing for every penny he’s owed. The defendant says he agreed to pay only when the job was completed. He says he’ll pony up when the work is done.
