    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Stealing a Friend's Dog Mar 08, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant kidnapped his shih tzu and is refusing to return the dog. He’s suing for recent vet bills and grooming costs. The defendant says the plaintiff’s other dog attacked the little shih tzu and the plaintiff begged her to take him, which she did. She insists he gave her the dog.

    The plaintiff says she and her mother bought furniture from the defendant’s store, but it was junk. She claims they got ripped off, so they’re suing for a refund and emotional distress. The defendant says they only complained about the couches, which he replaced, and he never heard anything else.

    The plaintiff says he hired the defendant to remove snow from his roof after a big storm, but the guy ripped him off. He says the defendant promised to refund half the fee, but he never did. The plaintiff is suing for his money back. The defendant insists he completed the work at the agreed-upon price.

    Cat-Nabbing Mar 07, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her estranged husband, and he stole two cats, furniture, and winter clothing from her. He even had her arrested, so she’s suing him for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff didn’t even want the cats and threatened to toss them out into the wild. He denies having any furniture or clothing.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is the head chef and owner of a restaurant. He claims he worked there for a week as a line cook, but the man stiffed him on his pay, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff showed up for a week and then disappeared, leaving him in the lurch.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor. She claims he damaged her house when he sprayed varnish on it when he was fixing his fence and he won’t pay for the damage. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant admits his pump sprayer oversprayed, and he offered to have a contractor repair it, but the plaintiff refused. He’s countersuing for what he paid the contractor to try to fix it.

    Treating a Tenant Terribly Mar 06, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiffs say the defendant is their very weird former landlord, who they allege spent their security deposit instead of holding it in escrow. They’re suing to have the money returned now that they’ve moved out. The defendant says the plaintiffs told him they had a family emergency and they had to move out early, so he claims he informed them he was keeping the deposit.

    The plaintiff says she was leaving her building with her little Yorkie, and the defendant’s unleashed dog attacked and killed her elderly dog. She’s suing for the state maximum. The defendant says her puppy was behind a fence, and the plaintiff’s unleashed dog antagonized her puppy.

    The plaintiff says her daughter rented an apartment for her senior year in college, but the hard-headed defendant won’t return their security deposit. They never heard from him, so they’re suing. The defendant claims the tenants spot-painted the walls and left the bathroom a mess. He says he won’t return anything.

    Dissing an Ex Big-time Mar 05, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her deadbeat ex-boyfriend, who mooched off her constantly. She says he never paid her back for anything, so she’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says his ex is suing him because she misses having sex with him. He says she’s materialistic, so they broke up. He claims the money went back and forth when they were a couple, and he’s countersuing for stolen items.

    The plaintiff says she entered the defendant’s parking lot one snowy morning and hit two rocks, damaging her car. She claims he should have marked the rocks as hazards, so she’s suing for car repair costs. The defendant says the plaintiff came to his shop at 5 a.m., and he’s not responsible for cutting the corner sharply and scraping her vehicle on the decorative rocks.

    A Jack in the Beanstalk Moment Mar 04, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor, who she claims cut a vine that smashed down into her shed. She says it broke her Lalique and Baccarat crystal, so she’s suing for the value of the items. The defendant admits she cut down the vine but claims she never heard of anyone storing expensive crystal in an outside shed.

    The plaintiff says the defendant hired him to install kitchens in homes he flips. He says his paycheck bounced and the guy still hasn’t paid him, so he’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff is a hack who didn’t install kitchens correctly, so he owes him nothing.

    Snatching a Car Off the Street Mar 01, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he parked on the street in New York City and got two tickets. Two days later, the defendant towed the car and said the cops told him to. The plaintiff claims he called police and he wasn’t on the tow list, so he’s suing for the cost of the tow and missed work. The defendant says the plaintiff sells cars with bogus plates and then disappears, so the police keep their eyes out and told him to tow it. He’s countersuing for lost wages.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her son, and she loaned him money. Now she can’t get him to pay her back, and he even blocked her phone number. She’s suing for every penny he owes her. The defendant says his mother abandoned him at 3 and they only reconnected much later. He claims he took care of her and bought groceries, and she’s taking advantage of him.

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to replace a slab of concrete by her garage, and it began cracking just a few months later. She’s sure he used a bad batch of concrete, and she’s suing for her money back. The defendant says he doesn’t make the concrete — he just installs it. He claims he offered to rip it up and reinstall it, but the plaintiff said he took too long.

    Shorting Out Feb 29, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant hired him to produce karaoke at his bar, but when he plugged in his equipment, the defendant’s faulty wiring fried it. He’s suing for the cost of the gear. The defendant says he didn’t hire the plaintiff, who’s a subcontractor. He claims the wiring is fine, and he denies any responsibility.

    The plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant’s grandmother, but the defendant decided to do renovations out of the blue and dismantled her kitchen and bathroom for months. She’s suing for mental anguish and missing belongings. The defendant says the plaintiff wasn’t paying rent and was squatting. She claims the plaintiff was asked to vacate several times.

    The plaintiff says the defendant was her longtime landscaper, but he damaged the side of her house with his equipment and won’t pay to fix it. She fired him, and now she’s suing him for the cost of the home repairs. The defendants say the damage was old and must have been from her previous landscaper. They offered to fix it, but the plaintiff refused and insisted on all new siding.

    Mucking Up an MCM Feb 28, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she was at the hair salon and a container of bleach spilled on her very expensive bag, ruining it. She’s suing the defendant for the cost of the purse. The defendant says the pregnant plaintiff brought in food, which spilled on the bag. She claims the plaintiff sprayed it with cleanser, staining it, and tried to blame her.

    The plaintiff says she was training for the Boston Marathon when the defendant’s dog viciously bit her on the back of her tricep, and the defendant yelled at her. She’s suing for medical bills, medicine, and a torn shirt. The defendant says her sweet dog was on a leash, and the plaintiff grabbed the defendant’s derriere, so the dog went into protective mode.

    The plaintiff says she was driving by a golf course and a golf ball smashed her windshield. The defendant hit an errant shot, but he refuses to pay for the repairs, so she’s suing. The defendant says he didn’t do anything wrong, and he claims the plaintiff should have gone through her insurance.

    Get Off My Dog Feb 27, 2024

    The plaintiff says he was walking his leashed Yorkie one day and the defendant’s loose dog bit a chunk out of the Yorkie’s ear. He claims the defendant has had multiple tickets for letting his dogs run loose. He’s suing for the cost of vet bills. The defendant says the plaintiff went crazy on him and insists the lawsuit doesn’t make sense.

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant, an architect, to help her prepare for permits to change her home into two dwellings. She was denied because of an oversight by the defendant, so she wants her money back. The defendant says he did the work and only took a non-refundable retainer. He says he offered a solution, but the plaintiff refused.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her mother, who has owed her for loans for years. She’s suing for what she’s due. The defendant says her daughter disrespects her, and she’s not going to take it anymore. She’s countersuing for pain and suffering.

    A Prescription for Failure Feb 26, 2024

    The plaintiff says he paid for an online class to become a pharmacy technician, but it turned out to be a scam. He’s suing for this money back. The defendant says she’s legit, and she claims the plaintiff didn’t complete the coursework. She’s countersuing for the balance owed.

    The plaintiffs say the defendant went into their apartment and tossed belongings out before they moved out so he could rent it to someone else. They are suing for all they’re owed. The defendant says the plaintiffs didn’t pay rent, so he had his workers go into the apartment to clear it out. He’s countersuing for cleaning costs and outstanding rent.

    The plaintiff says she gave the defendant an old freezer, but it dented her car while he was moving it. She’s suing for the cost of the repair. The defendant says the plaintiff’s sons were supposed to help him move it, so he thinks they should split the cost.
