    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    The plaintiff loaned her aunt — the defendant — the money to buy furniture, but now she’s refusing to pay the plaintiff back. She doesn’t want to sue, but she needs the money back. The defendant claims her niece jumped the gun and bought the furniture without her permission, so she doesn’t owe her a thing.

    Then, the plaintiff says her disabled son accidentally let their dog out and the defendant ran the poor animal over. She’s suing the defendants for vet bills. The defendants claim the dog ran in front of him out of nowhere and then took off.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he bought some furniture from the defendant’s store, but something came up two days later and he needed to return it. The defendant claimed there were no refunds, but the plaintiff says the receipt doesn’t explain that. He’s suing for a refund. The defendants claim they sold the defendant floor models and made it clear it was a final sale.

    Trashing an Ex's Stuff Sep 20, 2022

    The plaintiff says she’s been friends with the defendant for 12 years, and they even dated on and off. She claims he has two large bins of arts and crafts items of hers and he’s refusing to return them, so she’s suing for the money for the items. The defendant says the plaintiff kept saying she would pick up the items but never did, so he tossed out the junk. He claims she’s only suing because he broke up with her.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendants are her brother and niece, and they owe her for a family cemetery plot they refuse to pay for. Family or not, she’s suing to get paid. The defendants claim the plaintiff gave her niece the gravesite as a gift years ago, and now she’s threatening to throw her own brother in jail for grave theft. They say they owe nothing.

    Running out on Roscoe Sep 19, 2022

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-husband and he owes her. She says the defendant didn’t have the money to care for their family dog and promised to pay her back if she took the dog to the vet. He never paid her back, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff offered to take their dog to the vet to get treated but never said anything about the bill or a loan, so he denies owing anything.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant sideswiped her 2002 Lincoln and damaged it. She’s owed money to cover the repairs, so she’s suing. The defendant insists the cops confirmed there’s no way he could have caused the dings, so he’s not paying her a thing. He’s countersuing for harassment.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she gave the defendant a deposit on a rental apartment, but he double-crossed her and refuses to let her move in. He won’t return the deposit, so she’s suing him. The defendant claims he discovered two prior evictions on the defendant’s credit report and decided not to rent to her. He says he took the deposit to hold the apartment, which he did, so he’s not returning a penny.

    Outta My Life For Good Sep 16, 2022

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend and she owes him money for a trip they were supposed to take. He claims they got into an argument and she bit him and he bit her back. They never went on the trip, so he’s suing for the cost. The defendant says the plaintiff is a hothead who pushed her to the ground and then stuck his fist in her face, so she bit him. She ended up getting a restraining order and says she owes him nothing. She’s countersuing for pain and suffering.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they were hired to install security cameras at the defendant’s home, but he’s refusing to pay. They don’t work for free, so they’re suing. The defendant says the plaintiffs couldn’t get anything to work, and he had to hire someone else. He denies owing a penny.

    Losing It Sep 15, 2022

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend. He claims she maliciously destroyed his belongings because they were purchased by his new girlfriend. He’s suing for the cost of the items. The defendant says the plaintiff dumped her for one of her friends, so she snapped. She says they settled on an amount for the items she damaged and she paid it, but now he wants more.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they rented a room in the defendant’s house, but the environment was hostile. The defendant accused them of stealing her food and Wi-Fi, and so they moved out. They’re suing for their money back. The defendant says the plaintiffs almost killed her by leaving a door open that led to rickety stairs, and she insists they stole her food.

    Doggy Disaster Sep 14, 2022

    The plaintiff says the defendant’s dog walker wasn’t paying attention at the dog park and claims the defendant’s dog attacked his dog and injured her badly. He’s suing for the cost of the veterinary bills. The defendant says there were no witnesses to the attack, so he refuses to pay.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was hired to install shutters and an awning at the defendant’s house, but she won’t pay up. He’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff did shoddy work and made the awning so small that it doesn’t protect her porch. She’s countersuing for the cost of removing and replacing the awning.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she bought a car from the defendant and it died in the street three days later. She says he tried to fix it, but it took months. She’s suing for the cost of rental cars and rideshare fees. The defendant says the plaintiff got a new engine through a manufacturer’s recall, so he can’t believe she’s now suing him for Uber fares.

    I Didn't Steal Anything Sep 13, 2022

    The plaintiff says he brought his car to the defendant’s shop for an oil change, but one of his workers stole two money orders out of the car. The worker denied it, but surveillance video says otherwise. He’s suing for the stolen money. The defendant says the plaintiff hasn’t provided any proof to him or the police that he actually bought money orders, so he’s not handing over any cash to a scammer.

    Creating a Doggy Disaster Sep 12, 2022

    The plaintiff, a dog rescuer, said she paid to have a Siberian husky neutered for the defendant so the dog could be put up for adoption, but now the woman ghosted her and is refusing to pay her back. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant claims the plaintiff said she would neuter the dog for her. She claims she chipped in as agreed.

    Then, The plaintiff says the defendant is her granddaughter, who owes her money. Family or no family, it’s time to get back what she gave out, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant says she doesn’t owe any money.

    Lastly, the plaintiff says he had been hiring the defendant’s cleaning company for seven years, but they shattered his shower door the last time they were there. The defendants said they’d pay for a new one, but they didn’t, so he’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendants say the door wasn’t on the track properly and their employee could have been killed by all the glass.

    Leaving a Friend in Stitches Sep 09, 2022

    The plaintiff says the defendant is a former friend who stole her sewing machine. She’s suing for the value of the item. The defendant says she borrowed the machine a few times but denies stealing it.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was walking his dogs and the defendant’s large dog bolted out the open front door and attacked, biting his hand. He’s had to miss work, so he’s suing for what he’s out. The defendant says she has video proof her dog did not get out that day and alleges the plaintiff is scamming her.

    Dissing an Ex Sep 08, 2022

    The plaintiff says she met the defendant on a dating app and loaned him money. She claims she also bought him items to help him out, so she’s suing for her money back. The defendant says it wasn’t a serious relationship and claims he never asked her to give him anything.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to perform at her daughter’s bat mitzvah, but when the state of Connecticut shut down, the party had to be canceled. When she asked the defendant for a refund, he said he didn’t have the money, so she’s suing him to get it back. The defendant says he’s been a DJ for 34 years and was willing to give her a credit, but she wants a refund.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he brought his car to the defendant’s shop for new rims, but one of his employees crashed into it. He’s suing for the thousands it will cost to repair and repaint the classic car. The defendant says an employee grazed the old Buick, but the plaintiff wants the whole car repainted.
