    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    The plaintiff hired the defendant to build steps and a deck for her above-ground pool. She says the deck was the wrong height and not safe to use. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant argues he fixed the deck, and the plaintiff will never be happy with the product.

    Then, the plaintiff says he sold a glass yacht light, and he hire the defendant to package it for him. The item arrived damaged, so he’s suing the defendant. The defendant says the plaintiff showed up with a prepackaged Amazon box, and she shipped it for him. She says he filed a claim, which was denied due to his poor packaging.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he brought his car to the defendant for repairs, and it was supposed to be ready in a week. It dragged on for months and he had to rent a car, so he’s suing for those costs. The defendant says the engine was blown out and he did everything he could to find a replacement during the pandemic, but some things are out of their control.

    Tearing Into a Customer Aug 23, 2022
    Show notes

    The plaintiff went to the defendant’s business to get his car detailed. He says one of the defendant’s workers ripped the seat’s upholstery, so he’s suing for damages. The defendant argues the seat was ripped when the plaintiff showed up and he refuses to pay.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented a room in the defendant’s house, but the woman pulled a gun on her and told her to get out. The defendant also filed a false police report against the plaintiff. She’s suing for rent, gas, and emotional distress. The defendant says she told the plaintiff the room was only temporary because she was facing eviction, and she claims the plaintiff threatened her kids.

    Rap Battle Beat Down Aug 22, 2022
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to compete in a rap battle with him. He argues he paid for the defendant’s airfare and lodging, but the defendant never showed up because of bad weather. He’s suing for his money back. The defendant says he missed his flight, but he tried rescheduling with the plaintiff. He’s countersuing for defamation of character.

    Then, the plaintiff says he’s a Bigfoot hunter who’s been at it for 52 years and has made movies. He claims he loaned the defendant money to make a promotional video, which never happened, so he’s suing for a refund. The defendants say they hired staff to make the video, so if anyone is owed money, it’s them. They’re countersuing to recoup the costs they’re out.

    DeFriending a Friend Aug 19, 2022

    The plaintiff used to be friends with the defendant. She says she paid the defendant to do her hair but had to cancel because she didn’t have the funds. The plaintiff argues the defendant took her money but never actually did her hair. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff hassled her nonstop about the money and wrote negative things about her on social media. She’s countersuing for defamation of character.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was hired by the defendant to install a metal roof on her barn, but she’s stiffing him on his pay. He’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant claims the plaintiff took two years, and he put up metal instead of shingles. She claims she’s paid him enough.

    Dragging His Feet Aug 18, 2022
    Show notes

    The plaintiff’s son was convicted of murder in 1995. She says she hired the defendant to obtain a sworn affidavit from someone who initially testified against her son, but later admitted he lied. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant argues he tried to interview the witness, but the witness was murdered before the affidavit could be taken. He says his retainer for services is non-refundable.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant, a contractor, to remodel her bathroom, but he didn’t know what he was doing. She claims he left a mess, so she’s suing him for what it will cost to fix all the issues. The defendant says the plaintiff’s landlord wouldn’t let him in to finish the job, so he owes nothing.

    Plus, the plaintiffs say they bought a BMW 6 series from the defendant’s dealership with no title. They claim it’s a scam, so they’re suing for some of their money back. The defendant says she got the title from the DMV, sent it to the plaintiffs via courier, and the co-plaintiff signed for it, so she doesn’t understand why they’re suing

    Making Mom Mad Aug 17, 2022

    The plaintiff’s son was fatally shot at his girlfriend’s house. The plaintiff says she asked her other son, the defendant, to pick up the car from the house and bring it to her, but he refuses. She is suing for the value of a car. The defendant says he was close with his brother and had the title to the car and thinks his brother would have wanted him to have it.

    Then, the plaintiff says she paid a vendor’s fee to sell some jewelry at the defendant’s Juneteenth pop-up shop, but the event was rained out. She says the defendant claimed there was no makeup day, so she’s suing for the fee, transportation, and babysitting fees. The defendant says the plaintiff complained about drizzle, which passed. He claims she left the event, so he’s not responsible.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is the mother of his child, who he claims had him falsely arrested for hitting her. His claims his lawyer proved in court that she had lied, and he suing because of the turmoil she put him through. The defendant says the plaintiff is a cheater, and she insists he hit her.

    Cleaning a Guy Out Aug 15, 2022

    The plaintiff says the defendant hired her to help clean some buildings. After she worked her fingers to the bone, he stiffed her on her pay, so she’s suing him. The defendant says he wanted to date the plaintiff and offered her a job, but she disappeared from the job site and did terrible work.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is her daughter’s godmother, and they had plans to go to Orlando together. The defendant changed how they were going to split the bill, so the plaintiff changed her mind. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says she put the charges on her credit card, but the plaintiff backed out when the defendant’s daughter’s boyfriend decided to come along at the last minute.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he bought a car from the defendant, but it turns out the vehicle had a cracked head gasket and he claims the defendant tried to cover it up. The plaintiff is suing for his money back. The defendant says the plaintiff is a liar who has no proof he tried to cover anything up. He bought the car as is, and it was in great condition.

    You're Trucking Things Up Aug 12, 2022

    The plaintiff says she dated the defendant for a month and he led her on about their future. She claims he’s a sweetheart swindler who borrowed money and now won’t pay it back, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff came with him for part of a long-haul trucking trip and left halfway through. He denies borrowing any money.

    Then, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant, a gun maker, to build him an AR-15 rifle, but he never completed the order. The plaintiff is suing for his money back. The defendant says he began working on the weapon, but when he checked out the plaintiff, it turns out he was only 19, so making a gun for him would be illegal. The defendant claims the plaintiff threatened him, so he’s not refunding anything.

    Causing Puppy Problems Aug 11, 2022
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she bought a pug puppy from the defendant, who’s in Canada. She claims she wasn’t able to cross the border and has been unable to get her dog, so she wants a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff claimed she knew a border guard, and it’s not his fault she couldn’t work out the crossing. He’s countersuing for travel costs, vet bills, and puppy care.

    Then, the plaintiff says he bought a Mercedes-Benz from the defendant, but now the man won’t honor the warranty. The vehicle needs thousands in repairs, so that’s what he’s suing for. The defendant says the plaintiff went to another dealership and wants him to pay for it. He claims the plaintiff refuses to let him do the work.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant, an attorney, to help him recover money a construction company stole from him. A year later, nothing has happened, so he’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant claims he did work with the construction company’s lawyers, but then COVID-19 hit. He says the plaintiff needs to be patient.
