    293 - Rick Marotta

The name Rick Marotta is secured in the history of popular and recorded music! Rick Marotta is a drummer, percussionist and composer. He is considered one of the preeminent drummers in the world. Marotta has had a lot of experiences from touring musician, work as a session drummer for John Lennon, Paul Simon, Peter Frampton, Peter Gabriel, Warren Zevon, Kenny G., James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Linda Ronstadt and many others. With his brother, the accomplished Jerry Marotta he fronts the Marotta Brothers Band.

This interview with Rick Marotta was as relaxed and breezy as the atmosphere of the day it was recorded. I very much enjoyed talking to Rick Marotta, and I hope you enjoy listening!

    292 - Anton Fig

It was the Anton Fig album "Figments" where I first became familiar with trumpet star Chris Botti. He performed on a stunning song entitled "Tears." The beginning of this episode features a report of seeing Botti and his spectacular band at the Frederick Brown, Jr. in Peachtree City, Georgia

Musician Anton Fig was the drummer for the CBS Orchestra on The Late Show with David Letterman since the band’s inception and before that the drummer on Late Night with David Letterman’s World Most Dangerous Band. Hi debut album “Figments” was released in 2002 and features an all-star cast. He was kind enough to call in and we had this great interview which we are pulling out of the archives for this episode.

    291 - Paolo Dalla Zorza

He told us that people called him "the Cartier of gelato," and you may agree when you taste some of the luxurious frozen treats Paolo Dalla Zorza dreams up and creates. We asked where was a good place to get dessert while walking around the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta. That was when we first heart of Paolo's. The gelato is always fabulous. Paolo Dalla Zorza is quite a character. Corina and I recorded this interview in the back of his Atlanta gelateria for La Revisita magazine. Paolo has been in the news recently because he is selling his Atlanta location to concentrate on the location on 41 John Street in Charleston, South Carolina. We will miss Paolo, but hope to run into him when visiting Charleston.

    290 - Even Stevens

Singer-songwriter, record producer and painter Even Stevens is a very special case. There are so many enduring hit songs he had a hand in writing "I Love a Rainy Night" and "Drivin' My Life Away" by Eddie Rabbitt, and "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" by Dr. Hook and we can't forget "Love Will Turn You Around" by Kenny Rogers. Even Stevens has had many hits and has received an astonishing 55 BMI Songwriting awards and is an inductee of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Yes, it's a fascinating interview indeed with the one and only Even Stevens! It's all right here on The Paul Leslie Hour.

    289 - Buzz Rabin

The voice of Buzz Rabin will have you hanging on to every word. This goes for the songs he's written, but as I found out it applies to when he speaks as well. A natural storyteller, Buzz Rabin is the songwriter's songwriter. His words and melodies have resonated with the greatest singers and songwriters on the globe. Buzz proudly hails from Louisiana, a place that could be called the cradle of American music. Ringo Starr, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mel Tillis, David Allan Coe, Hank Williams, Jr., Gene Watson and Alabama are among the legendary artists that have covered his songs. In recent news, Willie Nelson interpreted Buzz's song "I Should've Been Listening" on his 2019 album Ride Me Back Home. Then there's Buzz Rabin's own recordings. His singing was praised by Merle Haggard and many others. When you hear Buzz Rabin sing a song, everything else disappears. During my time as an interviewer, I occasionally find myself feeling very lucky to collect and record the words of a true artist. That is the case here with the Buzz Rabin interview. Here it is folks. Welcome to it.

    287 - Buddy Cannon

Musician Buddy Cannon is a large part of the equation when it comes to the success of several iconic country music recording artists. He is the longtime producer for the bulk of Kenny Chesney’s discography and for the past few years he has been the producer of choice for country music legend Willie Nelson. Other artists he has produced include George Jones, Chely Wright, Reba McEntire, and Merle Haggard.

Buddy Cannon has also been very successful as a songwriter. With country artists Bill Anderson and Jamey Johnson, he wrote the hit song “Give It Away.” He’s written and co-written songs for artists as diverse as Vern Gosdin and Willie Nelson.

Although this interview covers many topics, it takes a close look at the acclaimed Willie Nelson album “Heroes." Originally broadcast on FM radio, it's a pleasure to present this digitally remastered podcast version right here on The Paul Leslie Hour.

    286 - Bob DiPiero

Singer-songwriter, performing and recording artist Bob DiPiero came highly recommended. Speaking to DiPiero you can see why! Down to earth, funny and able to express himself, this interview was a delight. He had his first hit song in 1983 and hasn't slowed down. A BMI Icon, he's had many hits and his songs have been recorded by many country artists: George Strait, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Montgomery Gentry, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, Steve Wariner, Trisha Yearwood, and others. In other genres, Bob Seger, Little Feat, Etta James and Neil Diamond. Bob DiPiero is an inductee of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and his songs have made a last cultural impact. At the end of the day, Bob DiPiero still manages to have an approachable, jovial personality. You'll love him. He's right here...on The Paul Leslie Hour.

    285 - Carrie Morey

Carrie Morey wanted to share the biscuits her mother Callie made with the masses and turned it into a very successful business. With a location in Charleston, South Carolina, in Atlanta, Georgia and now Charlotte, North Carolina, her biscuits are also available at retailers. As usual, there are a lot of details in-between and this is what Carrie understands all too well. Listen to this interview recorded on the noisy street of Charleston, South Carolina and you'll probably consider Carrie Morey to be biscuit baking royalty.

    284 - J. Nadimi

    J. Nadimi is a man with a very unique philosophy who has impacted far more people than he may realize. He is the proprietor of J's Cigars & Coffee House in Atlanta, Georgia. It has been called "the Friendliest Cigar Lounge in Atlanta." It's one of the most laid back places in the city and it's hard to go there and not have a great conversation with someone.

Whether you are a cigar aficionado or not, you're going to love meeting J. Nadimi. His attitude is what makes his business what it is. I'm honored to know him and it's a pleasure to have his interview featured on this episode of The Paul Leslie Hour.
