    #470: Diabolical Women & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | Scoop in Suspense Jun 22, 2026
    Show notes

Instead of preseason accolades, culture changes and QB controversies... we're talking about choke jobs, foreigners and diabolical Florida women. Welcome to OBB Benched!

The episode kicks off with a proper argument for the greatest choke job in professional sports history — and no, it's not the 2016 Warriors (although somebody does bring up the 2004 Yankees). The San Antonio Spurs led for 72% of the NBA Finals, blew double-digit leads in all four losses, and somehow handed the New York Knicks their first championship in decades. Wembanyama takes some heat too — though the guys are pretty clear he's gonna be a problem for a long time.

Then things take a turn toward the World Cup and all the foreigners who've been stumbling into Buc-ee's for the first time. There's a French guy's review that is genuinely one of the funnier things you'll hear this week. That leads to a full Buc-ee's CEO guessing game and then an actual ranked breakdown of which states have the most Waffle Houses (Georgia is not even close, by the way — 433 to Florida's 185).

The story of the week, though? A Florida woman who spent six months sneaking into her ex's apartment once a week — not to steal anything, just to move his furniture a few inches at a time. The man scheduled an eye exam, a neurological consultation, and a full home inspection. She just wanted him to feel the confusion she felt when he left her. Diabolical. Brilliant. Florida.

Roman rounds it out with five questions: worst James Bond casting choice (Joanne Bond from the HOA gets floated), the widow maker in your career or hobby, movie quotes 90% of people actually know, the biggest design flaw in the human body, and unusual reasons you wouldn't date someone. Fran Drescher laughs and man hands both come up.

Oh, and the boys spend the last few minutes cooking up a plan to trick Scoop into listening to an episode he'd normally ignore. The mission: name it something that personally confuses him enough that he has to tune in. We'll see if it works next week.

    Roddenberry's Ghost Balls. Go Canes.

#469: Miami Puts ACC on Notice | Two Thumps on My Desk Jun 18, 2026
    Show notes

The boys are back and this time they brought John Michaels in from Atlanta. No Scoop, but honestly? The energy did not miss.

The episode kicks off with audio from UM President Joe Echevarria dropping what might be the boldest public statement a Miami administrator has ever made. This isn't your standard boilerplate university-speak — the man went on the record about college football's broken guardrail situation, basically told the ACC they're temporary, and said flat out that Miami is playing for the NEXT TV contract. Not the one they're in. The next one. Big Ten, SEC — you've been warned.

From there the guys break down Phil Steele's preseason All-America selections and Miami has three of them — Malachi Toney, Mark Fletcher Jr., and Ahmad Moten. The Malachi debate gets fired up too. Is he or isn't he the most dangerous offensive weapon in college football? And how many touchdown passes does he throw this season? Rob's taking the over on 1.5.

Then it's the Brendan Sorsby saga, which came to a screeching halt after the college football community basically united against Texas Tech in a way nobody has ever seen before. John Michaels breaks it down, and the guys go deep on whether the NFL should touch him, whether Cincinnati deserves heat for knowing about this for two years, and why the whole thing feels like an amusement park in Mexico with no guardrails.

They also hit on the FSU parody bit that went viral on TikTok (hundreds of thousands of views), and wrap with a quick check-in on Miami baseball — JD ain't going anywhere, but next year is a big year.

It's a packed one. Go Canes.

    #468: Buffets, Bicyclists & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | Asthmatic Geese Jun 15, 2026
    Show notes

Instead of gambling QBs, recruitment culture or FSU failures... we're talking about nuts, taller boys, cyclists and spankings... welcome to OBB Benched!

Tom Brady launched a coconut water brand called Good Nut, and the boys are not buying the bit. Peyton Manning could pull this off. Brady cannot. That's settled law.

Coors Light dropped a taller boy — literally three cans in one — for the World Cup. The guys love the concept and immediately talk themselves out of it because by the time you get to the third beer in that thing, it's warm backwash. The Silver Bazooka, they called it.

A viral German tourist has been documenting America for the first time and found Buc-ee's. He's leaving in a few weeks and will need medical attention. Also: the Naked Gun rabbit hole, Enrico Palazzo, and why cyclists in matching spandex are basically a tactical infantry unit invading your commute.

From there it's a full five-question spiral: Did millennials figure out that spanking worked all along? What does your job train you to notice that you can't stop noticing? Who does the whole world love that you just... don't? (Jerry Seinfeld. George Clooney. The entire British Royal Family.) Bro code rules women don't know exist, including the firehouse alibi system and the guy with a secret Kelly day for seven years. And the moment you realized someone was genuinely scary smart — Elon putting data centers in orbit and Sean McVay's eidetic memory.

    #467: Miami & Sorsby Double Standard | A Dobermann with Dentures Jun 11, 2026
    Show notes

Scoop's somewhere out there gallivanting the globe again, so it's Toast and Ro holding it down from the Gables. And there's no shortage of material this week.

The boys open with the Brendan Sorsby situation at Texas Tech — a retired judge dusted off from mothballs ruled that a QB who literally bet on his own games should suffer no consequences because, hey, he needs the camaraderie. The NCAA, an organization that spent decades barking like a Doberman, turns out to have no teeth. Or dentures, if you will. Pete Rose did the same thing and he's not in the Hall of Fame. Sorsby's getting $5 million. Make it make sense.

Then it's all Canes. Miami opens the season as a 21.5-point road favorite at Stanford — and for once, that number actually fits. The boys break down whether this roster can cover spreads like that from week one, what the offense looks like under Darian Mensah and Shannon Dawson, and why the running back room somehow kept everybody. No portal exits. Zero. In this economy.

They get into the Clemson trip (7-point favorites at Death Valley), the Notre Dame game (7-point dogs, but hey), CBS projecting Miami to spend the most time at No. 1 this season, and what it actually means for a program to play with expectations instead of just for survival. Plus the Ezekiel Anigbale quote that sums up Mario's culture in one sentence. And a quick baseball note — Blake Morningstar from Wake Forest is now your Friday night ace.

    Topics this episode:

    • Brennan Sorsby & the Texas Tech gambling ruling — what it means for college sports integrity

    • The NCAA as a toothless Doberman — decades of empty threats finally exposed

    • Pete Rose comparison and why the red line in sports has officially been erased

    • Miami opens at Stanford as 21.5-point road favorites — confidence check

    • Season win total set at 10.5 — Vegas math and what it says about the schedule

    • Clemson (7-point fav) and Notre Dame (7-point dog) — the two games that define the season

    • CBS projecting Miami as one of two teams spending the most time at No. 1

    • Returning snaps concern — Miami ranks 53rd — and why they're not worried

    • Darian Mensah, Shannon Dawson's offense, and the chameleon advantage

    • Running back depth: Mark Fletcher, Jordan Lyle, Gerard Pringle, Humphrey Wheatley — nobody left

    • Mario's culture — why recruits are turning down more money to be here

    • Ezekiel Anigbale's quote: "The bag isn't why we're here"

    • DJ Jacobs possibly flipping from Ohio State — recruiting update

    • Miami baseball secures Blake Morningstar as Friday night starter

    #466: Insane Neighbors & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | Toots & Eileen Jun 08, 2026
    Show notes

Instead of video game covers, saving college sports or recruiting dominance... we're talking fanson the court, ass slaps, horrific drivers, insane neighbors and unjust arrests. Welcome to OBB Benched!

The guys open on Game 1 of the NBA Finals and the fan who rushed the court to get a selfie with Victor Wembanyama — and got banned from every arena in the league for life without even getting the picture. This somehow becomes a debate about tiered punishments for court invasions and whether facial recognition will actually stop him from sneaking back in.

From there it's 1994 flashbacks: the last time the Knicks led in an NBA Finals was June 17th, 1994 — the same night OJ Simpson's white Bronco was rolling down the 405 in the lower corner of every TV in America. The guys trade "where were you" stories that end up at the Challenger disaster and Mr. Witkowski's art class.

The Sean Avery neighbor story spawns an entirely new word for the English language. A man who allegedly had his neighbor Venmo hookers to his house, call the cops, and then watched it backfire when Avery wasn't home — which leads to a bit about sending Toots and Eileen to your enemies. Welcome to twatting. The guys run with it for a while.

Also in this episode: a deep dive on Popstroke (Tiger Woods' upscale putt-putt concept), Scoop's case for never making small talk with cashiers, Billy the Greatest Neighbor Ever who blows everyone's driveway twice a day and threw a party with "not too much weed," the best morning radio pranks that would never fly today, and a firefighter coworker who accidentally turned himself several shades darker via melanin peptides.

Five Questions wraps it up: your name on one building or arena, the most undeniable celebrity in her prime, best prank you've ever pulled, the city with the worst vibes, and one word you'd get tattooed on your body.

The episode title debate at the end is genuinely funny. "Toots and Eileen" won.

#465: Malachi's EA Cover | Feed Me and Throw Me Fastballs Jun 05, 2026
    Show notes

Nick Saban showed up to Congress, FSU's recruiting class lost its last blue chip to Wisconsin, and Miami just ripped another five-star out of Lane Kiffin's hands. Episode 465 of Orange Bowl Boys does not slow down for anybody.

The boys open with a charity ad parody so good they play it twice — Florida State football, starring a walk-on long snapper named Chad and a kicker who's only there for the meal plan. For just 60 cents a day, you can help.

From there it's all Miami. Malachi Toney just became the cover athlete for EA College Football '27, and the guys break down what that means for the program — the recruiting pitch, the national visibility, the cultural weight of having a kid from South Florida own the biggest college game on the market. Then comes the honest question nobody wants to answer: is a sophomore slump coming? Defensive coordinators know who he is now. The conversation on Cooper Barkate, Josh Moore, and whether this offense is actually deeper than last year's numbers will suggest is one of the better breakdowns they've done all year.

Nick Saban in front of Congress goes exactly how you'd expect — the right message delivered by the absolute wrong messenger. The guys break down the NIL arms race, whether a hard salary cap actually fixes anything or just pushes the money back under the table, and why the Bernie Madoff reference is a lot more apt than anyone wants to admit.

There's also a quick word on the Miami AD situation — the Yorkmark deal that was apparently done a month ago suddenly isn't. Toast called it. The guys react. Mark Fletcher's mom discovering her son on a billboard is everything. The guys have a whole campaign idea that honestly Miami should steal immediately.

The back half gets into baseball — the NCAA tournament, the home field advantage debate, and a genuinely heated argument about whether pitchers have earned the right to celebrate strikeouts.

    Good show, boys. Go 'Canes.

#464: Hot Mics, Wine Bottles & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | Once a Day is Fine Jun 01, 2026
    Show notes

Instead of QB rankings, watchlists or Lane Kiffin's BS ... we're talking about hot mics, sex tapes, hidden liquor and homoerotic tooth brushing habits... welcome to OBB Benched!

The show kicks off with a pair of wild hot mic moments from the college sports world. First, LSU pitcher Devin Sheeran (yes, Ed's brother) gets flagged by the ESPN broadcast crew for his colorful vocabulary during a game. Then things escalate when a mystery voice during a Nebraska–Oklahoma State women's softball broadcast drops a phrase that no one can explain, no one can identify, and no one will ever forget. The ball sack lady remains at large.

From there the boys pivot to the story of the week — a Michigan woman arrested at CVS who was found, during processing into jail, to have an unopened bottle of Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Grigio hidden somewhere it was never designed to go. The LinkedIn profile connection makes the whole thing ten times better. This spirals into a conversation about the most creative ways the guys have ever smuggled liquor into a sporting event (binoculars, Listerine bottles, questionable medical equipment), plus a legendary flashback to a long-lost figure known only as the Beeper Girl.

Will Levis then enters the chat — his mom went on a podcast and shared that her son spent a significant amount of money trying to get his sex tape scrubbed from the internet. She also confirmed it didn't work. The guys have thoughts.

Then, bafflingly, Bryce Harper went viral on TikTok for how he brushes his teeth. Specifically: he squeezes toothpaste directly into his mouth, then applies the brush. The OBB crew debates whether this is a one-time-only acceptable behavior or a full-blown character flaw.

The back half of the episode is Five Questions, and this week's batch is a banger: something attractive at 18 that's embarrassing by 30, which military role you'd actually be good at, which animal species deserves the biggest legal settlement against humanity, the company that's lost you as a customer forever, and what's the single worst thing to hear right after waking up from anesthesia.

No QB rankings. No watch lists. Just chaos.

#463: Mensah Ranked "Tier 1A" QB | A Bandana Full of Nips May 28, 2026
    Show notes

Episode 463 of the Orange Bowl Boys is here and it does not disappoint. Before getting into any football, the boys kick things off with one of the more unexpectedly fascinating stories in recent memory — a friend who moonlights as a freight train-hopping hobo as part of what can only be described as the Hobo Illuminati. No, really. From bandanas full of nips to the logistics of sneaking onto freight trains for weeks at a time, this one goes off the rails (pun intended) in the best possible way.

Once the boys finally settle in, it's a packed episode of Miami Hurricanes content. ESPN dropped their quarterback tier rankings for the upcoming season, and Cam Mensah lands exactly where he belongs — Tier 1A, the fourth-best quarterback in the country. The guys go matchup by matchup through the schedule, breaking down which opponents Miami should handle with ease and which ones (looking at you, Clemson on the road) deserve real respect.

The conversation shifts to the On3 preseason top 100 players list, where five Hurricanes made the cut. Malachi Toney checks in at No. 5 nationally, Ahmad Moten at No. 27, and the boys make a strong case that Moten is a top-13 NFL Draft pick — not a late first-rounder. Mark Fletcher's No. 93 ranking gets the appropriate side-eye treatment. And the Malachi Toney discussion turns into a genuine deep dive on what it means to capture the imagination of an entire city, comparing his local impact to Hurricane legends of the past.

Lane Kiffin shows up to collect his flowers — and not the good kind. His comments about Ole Miss beating Miami? Addressed appropriately. FanDuel opened Miami as a 6.5-point dog at Notre Dame for the November matchup, and the guys love every bit of it.

Also on the docket: Canes baseball heading into the NCAA Regional in Gainesville without Cuvee, the SEC finally killing off its late-season cupcake games starting in 2027, the NIL-fueled chaos of an Eastern Michigan women's golf story that sounds made up but isn't, eighth graders intentionally repeating the grade for athletic advantages, and somehow — a full cookie review of Loli's Cookies inside Chow Pizza on State Road 84 in South Florida.

    #462: Girl Fights, Cockfights & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | Baby Bird May 25, 2026
    Show notes

Instead of epic recruiting, rosters or QB lawsuits... we're talking about overhyped fights, trash talk and cock fighting... welcome to OBB Benched!

We kick things off with the Oregon State Beavers making headlines after signing Peteris Pinis to their basketball roster. The comment section was absolutely cooked, and we read the highlights. Then we pivot to the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano fight — 17 seconds, $1 million payday, and a whole lot of disappointment for anyone who sat through it.

From there we dig into the Edwin Diaz cockfighting scandal out of Puerto Rico. The Dodgers closer got tied up in social media posts promoting illegal cockfights, along with a couple of jockeys fresh off the Kentucky Derby. We break down why Michael Vick went to prison and nobody seems to care about the cocks, and somehow end up wondering where PETA stands on all of this.

Jon Gruden pops up next — we played his clip talking about how Peyton Manning used to call out defensive backs' wives' names at the line of scrimmage as a psychological edge. Diabolical. We also get into Gruden's ongoing lawsuit against the NFL and whether Urban Meyer ever settled with that waitress.

Then it's five questions time. Topics this week include: things that seemed like a huge deal as a kid but weren't (quicksand, Y2K, Segways, 3D TVs), the strangest thing you saw at college (mostly things we can't repeat on air), the coolest stadium or venue you've ever been to (Wrigley, Fenway, the old Yankee Stadium, Mercedes-Benz), the best recent piece of advice you've received (weed your garden, gratitude as a discipline), the male equivalent of lingerie (nobody had a good answer), and TV show endings that let you down — The Sopranos, Quantum Leap, Seinfeld, Ozark, and more.

All that plus a brief Melissa controversy and the eternal question of what to name this thing. Baby bird it is.

    #461: Miami's Huge Recruiting Wins | Coke Dog May 21, 2026
    Show notes

CBS Sports just dropped their most complete roster rankings — and Miami came in at No. 6 in the country. Up from 15 last year. The boys break down what that means, whether this offense can touch Cam Ward's era, and where Darian Mensah fits into the conversation.

On the recruiting front: two recent flips, A.J. Randall Jr.'s commitment timeline, and the ongoing linebacker depth question with two senior starters. Plus a deep look at whether the wide receiver room — with Cooper, Malley, and a loaded depth chart — is actually the best position group on the team right now.

Then things go sideways, as they always do. A Texas Tech quarterback in court suing the NCAA for the right to play after betting on his own team. A 464-pound offensive lineman's brief NFL career. The UFL's empty stadiums. Canes baseball's pitching woes heading into the ACC Tournament. TSA's new weed policy and what that means for airport beagles. And someone named Coke Dog closes out the show.

Classic OBB. Off-season has never sounded better. Subscribe for Miami Hurricanes football talk year-round — recruiting, roster analysis, and enough off-topic nonsense to make the off-season bearable.
