Miami Week 7 College Football Recap Show - Orange Bowl Boys Oct 13, 2024

Even though the Canes didn't play this weekend, it didn't stop us from recapping the weekend in College Football as we gear up for Louisville this Saturday!

Toast's trip to the Savannah Bananas game spawns one of the best dive-bar stories from South Florida we've ever heard! But we quickly pivot back to college football because we had a lot of overtime games and games coming down to the wire this week. Scoop wants to know what stadium where we'd like to experience a game - Toast and Roman pick the bayou for an LSU game on a Saturday night, Scoop goes with Neilan Stadium for Tennessee because of how electric the atmosphere was last night.

We take a quick look at the Canes opponents so far this season and how they have fared after the Miami game, and Clemson appears to be renewed and a clear second to the Canes in the ACC. And we go around some of the wild games this week, review our picks (which were all over the place after yesterday) and take a look at Alabama, who barely hung on again for a close win over South Carolina. And does the Oregon-Ohio State game end the same way if Cam Ward is under center? The debate also breaks out about whose head is bigger - Chip Kelly or Mark Mangino.

Xavier Restrepo was also on ESPN this week talking about how the Canes had a players-only team meeting this week, even though they were on a bye. And we all agree that this is a great thing to happen when the team is winning, because with today's parity we see top teams lose big games even when they're favored.

#141: Miami Bye Week Grades - Green Eggs and Cam Oct 09, 2024

It's the bye week show and we're still riding high at 6-and-0, and we love that the Miami Hurricanes are once again the most hated team in college football! And we relish in the hatred toward the U because everyone hates Miami when they're at their best. Toast points out that the two questionable calls literally changed the team's record from 4-and-2 to 6-and-0, but he doesn't care because both calls went their way.

Scoop also plays devil's advocate and asks us how good the Canes actually are, after struggling against their two sub-par ACC opponents thus far this season. Roman argues that we have a championship caliber offense but a very average defense, while Toast contends that it all comes down to Miami having the best quarterback in the country. And like most weeks there is a lot of love to go around for the accomplishments of Xavier Restrepo as he closes in on UM receiving records.

We do our higher-lower picks for the week courtesy of Underdog Fantasy, with picks in the Oklahoma-Texas game and the Ohio State and Oregon game. We also do a bye week edition of midseason grades - with great grades for the quarterback, tight ends and wide receivers - respectable grades for the running backs (even though they are the 16th best rushing team in the country), offensive line, defensive line and corners - and room-for-improvement grades for the linebackers and safeties.

And the wheel of football spins wildly for the aftermath of the Vandy-Bama game, including Diego Pavia cursing on live TV, the goal posts marching down Broadway in Nashville, and an epic rant by a Finebaum caller for the ages. Plus some wild Pick Ems to round out the week, and no recap show.

MIAMI COMES BACK TO WIN 39-38 at Cal - Orange Bowl Boys Week 6 Recap Show Oct 06, 2024

The Miami Hurricanes pulled off what could be the greatest comeback in program history only hours ago, which means there is a LOT to break down in the Recap Shoooow! And if you went to bed early thinking Miami lost this one you missed an unbelievable comeback in the early hours of the morning.

While everyone is thrilled that they got this comeback win, Roman feels like we're limping into the bye week at 6-0. Of course the debate rages about the targeting penalty that went the Canes way late in the game, and how that could have ended the game, but the guys feel like it probably was targeting and we got away with one. And Cam Ward's decisions were all over the place in this game, leaving us a bit concerned with his play in games that are this close.

The defense also gave up some huge plays which really brought back the narrative of the questionable secondary, who has been so good all year but looked very unprepared against Cal. And while everyone stops to reflect on the joy of a 6-0 start, it was clear that Cal's approach was to goad the Miami players into conflict and reactionary plays and for the most part it worked.

On the big positive side, Restrepo and Cam both had huge games (despite huge mistakes by Cam), and Scoop wants to know if Cam's lackadaisical confidence bothers the guys as much as it picks at him. And Roman is gearing up for what looks to be an epic Student of the Game as he breaks down this game film. And we bounce around one of the wildest weeks of College Football we can remember seeing.

#140: Miami Week 6 Preview at Cal - Turned Into a Sock Puppet Oct 03, 2024

We start the show as the UM equipment truck is in the middle of a LONG haul across the country to get the team's gear to California, and along with that comes a featured College GameDay matchup on ESPN. And somehow the late overturned TD from the end of the Virginia Tech game is still a narrative coming into this game. Roman also talks about Kiko's low rating against the Hokies and why he graded out so low last week.

We go in deep on our Cal preview, with a look at their quarterback (who frankly isn't in Cam's stratosphere) and arguably the nicest fanbase in college football. Cal's offense is rated the second worst in the ACC for scoring offense and how that should allow Miami to control the score. And Rueben Bain is back, plus some amazing audio of Cam Ward being asked about the Cal corners. And IP Daily checks in to decimate the Golden Bears going into Week 6!

All three guys offer up their keys to the game, including keeping control of the box, what Cal tries to steal from the VA Tech game, cleaning up penalties, and keeping tabs on the big explosive plays.

This week's wild wheel of topics runs the gamut from an unusual amount of celebrity deaths the last few weeks, Chip Kelly saying bathroom breaks are the better part of being an OC versus a head coach, Tom Brady laying the smack down on Baker Mayfield, and the perilous situation of Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins. And Scoop believes it's a mistake for Nebraska to start serving alcohol at college events because it harkens back to a tradition that is dying off in college football.

MIAMI WINS 38-34 vs Virgina Tech - Orange Bowl Boys Week 5 Recap Show Sep 28, 2024

Listen, momma said there’d be games like this. It definitely was not pretty, but in the end, a conference win is a win. 5-0 (1-0) will work and we continue on.

Obviously, there is a lot to unpack here…we start with the final play. Was it a TD or not? We all agreed it was not and Ro made a great point. If you think that was a TD, you are a pure Miami hater. All three of us were stunned that the ACC overruled the call on the field. Can’t remember the last time the refs helped us in a game.

Cam Ward and his Heisman CAMpaign is still progressing, tho this was his worst start as a Cane. He was responsible for 5 touchdowns, but also 3 turnovers. We will live with Cam and die with Cam…as he goes, so will this season.

Penalties are still an issue as we bagged another 6. The rushing attack is not what we’d like to see as we approach the midway point in the season.

All that said…we lose this game going away last handful of seasons. The battle back they showed us means something.

It is the dawn of ACC play with the Canes taking on Va Tech tomorrow night at the Rock! The guys discussed the amazing start and what their worries might be heading into this game. Toast has a little concern that Va Tech might finally show the promise everyone thought they’d have pre-season. Meanwhile, Scoop would really like to see them run the ball in dominating fashion. We had a bunch of fun making our Higher/Lower picks with Underdog Fantasy. We will make more money with DJUglystats again this week.

IP Daily dropped a pregame report for the Va Tech game and was somehow able to make it NSFW, so fair warning there. Earmuffs for the kiddies.

We also got into the UNLV news with their QB1 bailing on them due to NIL issues. Listen, this is big boy stuff here. If you and your agent do not get stuff in writing, you are an idiot. Have competent representation. This is on him and his advisors, not on UNLV.

MIAMI WINS 50-15 at South Florida - Orange Bowl Boys Week 4 Recap Show Sep 22, 2024

It was another HUGE win for the Miami Hurricanes as they beat the South Florida Bulls 50-15 in Tampa... which means it's another fun Recap Shooow!!

The first half of this game was a struggle for the Canes with some unforced errors, but still hit the half up 7. Then they came out in the second half and ran the Bulls out of the building. Mario challenged the defense to try and pitch a shutout in the second half and the Canes came out with a whole new attitude and put the game to rest.

And with another amazing performance by Cam Ward, Ro starts referring to the offense as a "hive mind" because they all know where they need to be and what's going to happen. We also take a look at the talent of the receiving core as we now have three receivers on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award and they all showed out against USF.

There are so many props to go around this week, but the play of the offensive line really stood out to everyone, as Cam Ward went practically untouched in this game. And the talent of this Canes team showed you that when you play a scheme like USF, it can only last so long before this Miami team just punches you in the mouth and shuts it down. And how about that run from Lyle!?! There's almost too much good stuff to talk about this week.

Props also go to the play calling of Shannon Dawson this week, who is obviously operating without any meddling or oversight because he's been having fun with his schemes. And when you have a QB like Cam Ward, it's easy to get creative and look great. We also take a look at our Underdog Fantasy Higher or Lower picks, and break down some of the wild stories from around College Football yesterday. Scoop is coming in hot as the show's sole USF alum, and he immediately jokes that this week he's realized that USF fans border on the annoyance level of UCF fans. This branches into a discussion about who the most annoying fan base in Florida really is, and it's hard for anyone to top UF. And where exactly do you draw the line for "South Florida"? And as we dive into the specifics of this match-up, it's clear that the Bulls are a one-man show.

MIAMI WINS 62-0 VS Ball State - Orange Bowl Boys Week 3 Recap Show Sep 15, 2024

The Canes did something none of us saw coming as they ran Ball State out of the building, which makes for a total blast of a Recap Shooooow!

It was a record setting day for Miami as they ran up 750 total yards, the first time they've done that in 20 years. Cam Ward was exceptional again yesterday, as was the line because he had all the time in the world to do what he wanted to do. And everyone was happy to see this team stay in the moment and not look past a team like Ball State with South Florida on the horizon. Plus Roman has high praise for Mario this week, as he allowed his offensive coordinator to work when things were slow.

Now that we're through our first three games we start to get into the teeth of the schedule, and we're curious to see if that high level of performance from Cam can continue as the defenses toughen up. And it wouldn't be a recap show if we didn't dance on the graves of the Gators and Seminoles who both took a huge L this week.

And we close out the fun with the results of our over/under picks for the week! Plus we start to look ahead to South Florida next week.

#137: Miami Week 3 Preview vs Ball State - Your Mental Hamper Stinks Sep 12, 2024

Everyone comes in high off the FAMU win, but Ro still feels like it's a make-or-break week because he needs to see the team make a statement against a team you're a heavy favorite over. But Scoop feels like UM is now beyond the "not being ready" stage of the season and they should roll easily against an inferior opponent.

Shannon Dawson also said UM has been pretty "basic" on offense, even though we're already seeing more from the tight end group than we have in previous seasons. Plus the AI OBB's drop a hot new Cam Ward single and a Letterman-style Top 5 things that will happen before Miami loses to Ball State at home. And all the guys have their three keys to the game, which are a little more in depth than the ones against FAMU.

IP Daily returns to once again lay waste to the Seminoles, Notre Dame and Auburn! And IP's comments launch us into a conversation about Linkin Park's new lead singer and how the FSU water guns that made a return appearance on social media this week. And the biggest South Florida story is still Tyreek Hill and how both Cheetah and the Miami cops were both on the wrong side of this situation. There are so many juicy Colorado stories that we have to dive into all of the rumors and stories swirling around Deion and Shaduer as they circle the tank
