Ep 124: American Made Oct 09, 2017

Show notes

It's a Tom Cruise world and the rest of the actors in this film are just living in it! With Shahir out of town (totally not doing covert ops for the CIA)Matt's cinematic mission is saved by guest Co-Hosts Red Charyszyn of Sikelia Productions and Anastasia Pridlides of Alexander Technique fame! Is this film the comedic tale of a man just trying to provide for his family while too deep in a life of crime? Or is it yet another flick glorifying illegal activities with no references to those whom its "hero" inadvertently hurts along the way? And most importantly... which of those spins is currently MORE American??!? You listen then you decide! Ep 123: Crooklyn Oct 01, 2017

Show notes

On September 13th, New Yorkers voted for Spike Lee's "Crooklyn" as the inaugural "One Film, One New York". Since we're The ONLY Podcast About Movies and happen to live in New York, it was our duty to continue the conversation about Lee's 1994 semi-autobiographical film! Let's take a trip down memory lane to 1973, BedStuy, where one family struggles to make the rent and the kids are running riot. Youngest girl Troy (Zelda Harris) carries the weight of responsability as the realities of a strained marriage threaten to tear her family apart. We're really happy to have been part of #onefilmny and look forward to your bagel orders which you can send directly to onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com. Sometimes we all float when we go to the movies, but Shahir isn't sure whether we should, while Matt is already wearing too much clown makeup in support of Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's "It" We're back to our regular programming which means it's time to take a trip down into the sewers where everyone's favorite killer clown has danced his way into the hearts and souls of the Losers club. In this special conversation, we're joined by Sombra herself Carolina Ravassa (https://twitter.com/carolinaravassa) and Comedy Knockout host Damien Lemon (https://twitter.com/dlemoncomedy) to talk about race, representation and whether Shahir could ever make it as a 90's rapper. Ep 118: Terminator 2: Judgement Day Sep 03, 2017

Show notes

It's sentimental Sunday which means we're traveling back in time with Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 and joining the Austrian accented T-800 on it's second mission to change the future. James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day is back in theaters for a special 3D re-release, which means Shahir and Matt get to argue about who loves it more and why. We dive deep into the movie that may still be the reigning summer blockbuster champion both critically and financially. You can change our fate via email at onlymoviedpocast@gmail.com, or teach us how to cry on Twitter at https://twitter.com/onlymoviepod. As always, leave us your messages of hope on iTunes with a positive (or constructive) review! See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 117: Logan Lucky Aug 28, 2017

Show notes

Steven Soderbergh triumphantly comes out of retirement, which means Shahir can jump onto his soapbox to talk about one of his favorite working directors while Matt tries to stay awake. Channing Tatum leads an all star gang of crack heist-meisters in the Ocean's 7-11 of West Virginia. Just like the biggest fake outs of any heist film, Soderbergh himself has his eyes on another prize... independent distribution! Listen in as Shahir and Matt play amateur economists and extoll the value of foreign distribution rights and how much your personal data is worth to MoviePass (it'll all make sense in the end!) Special shout out to Steven Soderbergh who probably will never listen to this episode, but if he did and wanted to write in, could do so at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or hit us up on Twitter (www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod). He could also write us a review on iTunes at https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-only-podcast-about-movies/id998473390?mt=2 See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 116: Detroit Aug 20, 2017

Show notes

Let's take a trip back to 1967, Detroit Michigan, Shahir and Matt were merely twinkles in their respective dad's eyes and the Algiers hotel was about to become the scene of a horrific hostage crisis. Kathryn Bigelow's "Detroit" may not be the summer escapism you're looking for, but it makes for a fascinating discussion point about the cultural ownership of tragedy and who gets to retell stories of the past. We're also going to participate in the NYC One Film event, so please go to www.nyc.gov/onefilm to cast your vote for the one film to rule them all. Please email us your thoughts and comments at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or hit us up on Twitter (www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod). While you're there, try out #filmfood... it's delicious! Error and Omission: Shahir incorrectly cites Katheryn Bigelow's "Near Dark" as featuring Christopher Lambert. Near Dark in fact stars Adrian Pasdar. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 115: The Dark Tower Aug 13, 2017

Show notes

It doesn't happen often, but we recommend you NOT watching the film before listening to our review this week. We're climbing The Dark Tower with Stephen King aficionado and OscarWatch Podcast host Stephen Buja (https://soundcloud.com/oscarwatchpodcast). Maybe we're sitting too high on our own ivory tower, but from this height, it's impossible not to take down this latest adaptation gone wrong. If you'd like to bring us down a peg and school us on the Stephen King universe, you can do so via email at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com, run us down on Twitter (www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod) or terrify us with a review on iTunes! (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-only-podcast-about-movies/id998473390?mt=2) See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
