#33 Interview with Chef Kwame Onwuachi Sep 29, 2016
    Show notes

The Not Old - Better Show Interview series: Chef Kwame Onwuachi, Top Chef, & Guest Lecturer, Smithsonian Associates.

As part of our Smithsonian Associates, Art of Living series, our guest today on the Not Old Better Show is chef Kwame Onwuachi. Born in the Bronx and trained in classical French cuisine at the Culinary Institute of America, Kwame Onwuachi works as the Executive Chef of The Shaw Bijou in Washington, D.C. His interest in food was sparked by his mother who operated a catering company while he was growing up. Kwame started his own catering company at the age of 20 before working in some highly regarded restaurants including New York's Eleven Madison Park and Per Se. He has traveled the world learning different types of cuisines and cultures and worked on oil rigs, specifically "Deepwater Horizon," which is a very interesting story! His philosophy on cooking can best be defined as telling a story through food. Kwame was also a contestant on Top Chef. Give a listen to today's show, featuring a very interesting man, with a great story and a great future.

Please note: Chef Kwame Onwuachi will be appearing at the Ripley Auditorium, Washington DC, Oct. 24, 2016. However, the event is currently SOLD OUT. If you are interested in being placed on the "waiting list," please call Smithsonian Associates: 202 633 3030

The Not Old Better Show Interview Series: Weird Al Yankovic Concert.

Weird Al Yankovic has outlasted, and in some cases outsold, the artists whose songs he's parodied.

Weird Al has been the king of parody for 30 years. He's won three Grammys and he's released his 14th album. It's called "Mandatory Fun." Weird Al Yankovic joins me from his 2016 summer tour.

Join me for our concert review and interview with Weird Al.

#31 New Beatles Movie, "8 Days A Week, the Touring Years," & Ron Howard Sep 12, 2016

THE NOT OLD BETTER SHOW MOVIE REVIEW & INTERVIEW: "EIGHT DAYS A WEEK, THE TOURING YEARS," FROM RON HOWARD...

Just when you thought you knew everything there was to know about the Beatles, Ron Howard has uncovered new things about the Fab Four for the upcoming documentary, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week -- The Touring Years.

Welcome to The Not Old Better Show Movie Review and Interview: Ron Howard, and his new film, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years.

The film traces John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr from 1962-1966 during the years that they became a phenomenon. Ron Howard was a kid at the time, playing Opie on The Andy Griffith Show, and he (like everyone else in our Not Old Better audience) found himself swept up in Beatlemania.

Howard watched as the Beatles debuted on Ed Sullivan, toured the US, and eventually decided touring wasn't the band wanted to do.

The Beatles, whether performing live, or on their recordings, never held anything back. They had no reason to. But, The Beatles, due to increasing pressure of touring, had many reasons to cease live concert performances. While we can still see "The Cute One" who's out touring now, and of course Ringo is still with us, but for those of us not able to ever see them together live, this film in its audio brilliance, along with mesmerizing video footage recreates that magic, and it's guaranteed to raise a big smile on your face and well worth the price of admission.

    Enjoy!

#30 Sully Movie Review NOB Sep 09, 2016

MOVIES FOR ADULTS: "SULLY" MOVIE REVIEW

The new film, "Sully," is many things. A wonderful story, for one, but also a term used to identify or describe a person who has gone beyond the impossible to save your ass, or the ass of others. According to the Urban Dictionary, a "Sully" is at minimum a situation so bad that a complete hat trick was never in the cards, and with an outcome or accomplishment so improbable, that it just never happens.

Pilot Chesley Sullenberger's wild ride started when he landed a US Airways jet plop-solid perfect onto the icy surface of the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009 saving all 155 passengers on board. Fame has followed ever since, and Sullenberger's nickname, "Sully," is now this one-word phrase for coolness in a crisis.

He's a hero to a nation in need of a hero, and taxi cab drivers, hotel managers, and bar keeps all recognize him in their midst and heap praise on him.

And, just as the nation needs a hero, the real heroes in the film, and in real life are the honest, hard working Americans everywhere: the police, fire, safety, rescue and first responders, but importantly the flight crew themselves.

In the film, "Sully," out this week, seven and a half years after Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger successfully landed a damaged US Airways jet in the Hudson River shortly after takeoff from La Guardia Airport, this "Miracle on the Hudson" is retold through Captain Sullenberger's honest, responsible, humble eyes.

I loved this movie, and think you will, too. Enjoy.

#25 Interview with Author Heather Green Aug 15, 2016
    Show notes

VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR HEATHER GREEN:

TO CATCH A CAT, HOW THREE STRAY KITTENS RESCUED ME

With a busy career at BusinessWeek Magazine, at the height of her professional life, and at a dizzying time in the internet economy, Heather Green made a rather arbitrary decision that changed her life.

This decision tapped into her urge to help, get involved, act. As a journalist, that was a natural urge. But this was more. Because rescuing the three kittens and finding them homes got Heather involved within a community of neighbor's, new friends in the rescue community in the area, and others who cared as she did. Heather started creating real roots and a feeling of belonging—something she hadn't had for a big part of her life growing up as a military brat who moved every two years.

Is this what life is all about? Certainly it is part of it, and the questions Heather began to answer provide answers to us all.

Part of the new Not Old Better series on "Art of Living," you'll love this interview and the book. Enjoy.

    #24 Salute to 2016 Olympics, Michael Phelps & What's Next... Aug 11, 2016
    Show notes

21 and counting. I'll take all comers!

Michael Phelps won his 21st gold medal, and 23 medals overall, had some wonderful TV time last night. Touching images of Michael and his mom,

    • mom and michael in the photog frenzy,
    • his new baby "Boomer," and fiancé, Nicole Johsnon…but, in all honesty,

Some of the shots of Michael, ahead of the races, as he mentally prepped are the best. We all know that Olympian athletes are very intense. But famous Olympian, Michael Phelps, and his staring intensity is making the internet giggle with delight, because his intimidation face towards rival Chad le Clos is absolutely amazing!

Let's look at some of those, along with commentary from the twitterverse

    1. The 23-time Olympic medal winner had shot South Africa's Chad le Clos a death stare ahead of the event as the swimmers prepared for the race
    2. Phelps, wearing his Team USA warm up suit before he entered the pool, looked furious as he waited for the race: had his game face on!
    3. Old rivals, Phelps shot Chad leClos that death stare
    4. Oh my God that cupping is serious business,' one Twitter user joked as they posted a photo of Phelps as Darth Maul
    5. HeHateMe said: When You finally Know The Power of the Dark Side
    6. Mason Waugh transformed Phelps into a young Darth Vader and joked: "I have studied you, and found nothing but weakness."
    7. Phelps' furious stare appears to set the South African's hair on fire
    8. One social media user compared Phelps' to a petulant child who didn't get his Pepsi
    9. One sports fan poked fun at the fact that Phelps was sitting inside the arena with the hook up on his jacket: "when you think it's gonna rain so you wear your raincoat but then it doesn't rain
    10. Dana Schwartz jokingly puts Phelps' angry game face down to the fact that he was unable to get coconut milk at Starbucks Coffee
    11. "Possessed By Satan" nuff said
    12. A speech bubble jokes that LeClos has never heard of Harambe, the 17 year old silverback gorilla who was shot and killed at Cincinatti Zoo after a child fell into his enclosure
    13. Phelps matches Grump cat
    14. You should Not Mess With Me, or as Yoda: Mess With Me, You should Not!

All in all, great results from Phelps. Go USA, and more to come. Bring em on!
