As the Oscar season of 2020 comes to a close, we now find ourselves in our 2013 retrospective. The first film on the list we are reviewing is the Paul Greengrass-directed Best Picture nominee "Captain Phillips" starring Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi. How well does the film hold up today nearly ten years later? What did we think of the performances? The writing? Action and tension? Joining me for this podcast retrospective review, I have Nicole Ackman, Josh Parham & Ryan C. Showers. We hope you enjoy our first of many discussions on the film year that was 2013. Thank you!

Our Reactions To The 93rd Academy Awards Apr 26, 2021

Show notes

It was a rollercoaster of emotions as the 93rd Academy Awards concluded in a shocking upset for Best Actor that left a poor taste in many fans' minds after the producers made the decision to announce Best Actress & Best Actor after the Best Picture award (first time this had happened since the 1930s) all in hopes of a different outcome than what we received. The shock, anger and disgust of it all could be felt from all of us here at Next best Picture as we hopped on to discuss the show immediately following its conclusion. There's so much more to talk about and here to join me for it all I have Amanda Spears, Cody Dericks, Dan Bayer, Josh Parham, Daniel Howat, Ryan C. Showers & Michael Schwartz. This was originally going to be a Patreon exclusive podcast but we decided to release it in full for all of you to listen to. Thank you all for what was surely one of the most bizarre awards seasons any of us have ever experienced. We're not going anywhere after this as there will be more to discuss in the weeks ahead but for now, enjoy our initial reactions to the 2021 Oscars.

This weekend, we're reviewing the newest film on Netflix, "Stowaway," directed by Joe Penna ("Arctic") and starring Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette, Shamier Anderson & Daniel Dae Kim. Take a listen as we discuss the performances, the story and the spoiler filled ending. We hope you enjoy!

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL EPIODE. Please check out the full episode on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

Last night, the 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards were held last night representing the best in independent film for 2020. After the show, I decided to do something I've never done before, which was to hop on a Zoom call with the NBP Film Community right after the show to talk about the winners and what our thoughts are heading into the Oscars this Sunday. Since Film Independent is an organization that anyone can join, it only felt right to celebrate this evening with the community, some of whom are voters themselves. Tune in below to listen and enjoy!
