Interview With "The Card Counter" Composer & Songwriter, Robert Levon Been Sep 15, 2021

Show notes

Robert Levon Been's father, Michael Been, previously worked with filmmaker Paul Schrader on "Light Sleeper" back in 1992. Now, nearly 30 years later, Schrader reached out to the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club musician for the music on his latest film, "The Card Counter." Initially, Robert was supposed to deliver one song. However, the collaboration with Paul led to Robert creating all of the music for the movie, which now stands as his first credit as a composer for film. Robert was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his experience working on the film, which you can listen to down below. Enjoy!

Interview With Natalie Morales & Mark Duplass For "Language Lessons" Sep 10, 2021

Show notes

"Language Lessons" premiered at this year's Berlin International Film Festival and has been steadily growing in buzz ever since, thanks to its positive audience reception and strong reviews. The film now releases this weekend from Shout Factory! and maybe the most wholesome movie made during the pandemic, showing the platonic friendship and affection two people have for each other during the most difficult time of their lives. Making her feature directorial debut (also writing and starring), Natalie Morales works alongside co-writer and co-star Mark Duplass, all entirely over zoom to bring us something special. The two were kind enough to take some time to chat with us about making the film during the pandemic, their real-life friendship, and more! Take a listen down below, enjoy and be sure to check out the movie, now playing in theaters.

Episode 259 - The 2021 Telluride & Venice Film Festivals, "Belfast" & TIFF Preview Sep 06, 2021

Show notes

For Episode 259, I threw together a podcast while on the way, during and coming from the 2021 Telluride Film Festival. Jorge Birnam and I recorded our thoughts on the festival before arriving and then recorded our thoughts on the way back to the airport. I also had conversations with Dan Bayer about the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, which he'll be attending, and Cody Dericks about his experience at the Venice International Film Festival. Apologies about the recording quality, as I did not have my usual equipment, but I hope this episode serves to answer all of your burning questions about one of the most exciting times of the year! Enjoy!
