"Priscilla" Nov 04, 2023

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Ema Sasic, Josh Parham, Giovanni Lago & Kenzie Vanunu. Today, we are reviewing the newest film from Academy Award-winner Sofia Coppola, "Priscilla," starring Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi & Dagmara Domińczyk. The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Best Actress prize for Spaeny. It tells the story of the relationship between Elvis and Priscilla from her point of view. Standing in stark contrast to last year's "Elvis," what did we think of its approach by Copolla, the writing, performances, and re-creations of the time period? Tune in as we discuss these points, its awards potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you, and enjoy!

For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Dan Bayer & Daniel Howat. Today, we are reviewing the newest film from the Academy Award-winning directing duo Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, "Nyad" starring Annette Bening, Jodie Foster & Rhys Ifans. What did we think of the story, the performances, the crafts, and how Elizabeth and Jimmy made the transition over to narrative feature filmmaking? Please tune in as we discuss these talking points, the film's awards potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you, and enjoy!

Interview With "The Holdovers" Screenwriter David Hemingson Oct 30, 2023

Show notes

"The Holdovers" had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, where it received some of Alexander Payne's best reviews since "Sideways." It later screened at the Toronto International Film Festival to similar acclaim and was the runner-up for the Toronto People's Choice Award. Re-uniting Paul Giamatti with Payne, the film is one of the rare films from Payne that neither he nor his collaborator Jim Taylor wrote together. Screenwriter David Hemingson was kind enough to spend a few moments speaking with us about the script, how he came on board the project, working with Payne, and more. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in limited release and will expand on November 10th from Focus Features. Thank you, and enjoy!
