God in the Hustle: 5 Quick Ways to Stay Connected Aug 28, 2024
    Show notes

By: Mighty Oaks As the school year kicks off and activities ramp up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by a packed schedule. Between work commitments, family responsibilities, and personal errands, finding time for yourself and your relationship with God can seem impossible. However, amidst all the chaos, it’s crucial to carve out moments to pause, reflect, and reconnect with God. Here are five effective ways to deepen your relationship with Him during this busy season. 1. Start Your Day with Prayer and Reflection Mornings can often feel rushed, but starting your day with prayer and reflection sets a peaceful tone. Try waking up just 10-15 minutes earlier to spend quiet time with God. Whether you read a devotional, meditate on scripture, or sit in silence, this practice helps you stay centered and prepared for the day’s challenges. Without this time, drifting away from your spiritual roots becomes more likely. 2. Incorporate God into Your Daily Routine Finding time for God doesn’t have to mean adding another task to your to-do list. Instead, integrate Him into your daily activities. For instance, listen to a worship playlist or a Christian podcast while driving or exercising. Similarly, pray while doing chores or waiting in line. By including God in these moments, you turn ordinary activities into opportunities for connection and reflection. 3. Set Boundaries and Prioritize Your Schedule When life gets busy, spiritual practices can easily fall by the wayside. To prevent this, set clear boundaries and prioritize your schedule. Identify the most important tasks and make time for prayer, scripture reading, or church services. Remember, caring for your spiritual well-being is as important as any other responsibility. Ignoring this priority can lead to drifting away from your faith. 4. Join a Bible Study or Small Group Community support is crucial for maintaining a strong relationship with God. Joining a Bible study or small group offers regular opportunities to engage with God’s Word, share your faith journey, and gain encouragement from others. This sense of accountability helps you stay committed to your spiritual practices. 5. Practice Rest Lastly, God calls us to rest, yet this practice is often overlooked in our busy culture. Rest doesn’t mean doing nothing; it means intentionally slowing down to focus on God and refresh your spirit. Whether it’s a quiet evening with the Bible or a day without digital distractions, practicing rest allows you to recharge and reconnect with God. Conclusion In summary, life’s demands can pull us in many directions, but nurturing your relationship with God should always be a priority. By starting your day with prayer, integrating God into your routine, setting boundaries, joining a community, and practicing rest, you can stay spiritually connected even during the busiest seasons. Ultimately, it’s not about finding time; it’s about making time. Prioritize your spiritual well-being, and everything else will fall into place. Anchored in Hope: 5 Bible Verses to Lift Your Spirit in Dark Times Aug 20, 2024
    Show notes

By: Mighty Oaks Anchored in Hope: 5 Bible Verses to Lift Your Spirit in Dark Times September is National Suicide Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to the struggles many face and to offer support rooted in truth. In times of deep despair, it’s not just comfort but the hope found in God that sustains us. The Bible offers powerful verses that remind us of God’s presence, strength, and unchanging love. When the darkness feels overwhelming, these scriptures serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that we are never alone. Here are five verses that can guide you through life’s toughest moments. 1. Psalm 46:1 (NIV) "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." This verse assures us that God is always available to help us, especially in times of trouble. He is a reliable refuge and a source of strength when we are at our lowest, reminding us that we are never alone in our struggles. 2. Isaiah 43:2 (NIV) "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." This powerful promise from God highlights His presence in our most difficult and fiery trials. Regardless of how overwhelming our circumstances may be, God promises to be with us, protecting and guiding us through every challenge. 3. 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." This verse celebrates the living hope we have through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It reminds us that despite our struggles, God’s mercy offers us a new beginning and an enduring hope. This hope is alive and vibrant, rooted in the power of Christ’s victory over death. 4. Romans 15:13 (NIV) "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." This verse is a beautiful reminder that God is the source of hope. As we place our trust in Him, He fills us with joy and peace, allowing us to overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. It underscores that hope is not just a feeling but a gift from God that sustains us through life’s challenges. 5. Psalm 30:5 (NIV) "For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." This verse provides a profound sense of hope and renewal. It acknowledges that while sadness and weeping may be present, they are temporary. God’s favor and the joy that He brings are enduring, promising that a new day of rejoicing will come. This verse offers reassurance that even in the darkest times, God’s light and joy are on the horizon. Strengthening Your Married Life, From a Veteran Caregiver + Wife Jul 29, 2024
    Show notes

By: Anna Morgan As the caretaker and spouse of a medically-retired Marine, I realize firsthand the challenges and blessings that are comprised within each distinctive vocation. When my husband Jedidiah was deployed on his second tour abroad, he suffered near fatal injuries. Our lives were permanently altered in the span of a single moment. I went from a bride of then only six months to a round-the-clock personal care attendant for my serviceman. As a newfound nurse, my responsibilities required supernatural fortitude, devotion, commitment, and sacrifice with every undertaking. While it's undeniable that we military wives often encounter grueling circumstances, we simultaneously experience an extraordinary sense of impact and increased meaning. In light of my own personal experience, I'm privileged to present five ways to reinforce your military marriage below. 1. Rely on your faith in Christ. Resting in the absolute assurance of God's sovereignty is imperative. As disciples, we can be encouraged realizing that our Heavenly Father records every heartache, collects each tear, and never abandons us (Psalm 56:8). Not only was His Spirit present in the midst of the initial devastation from the revelation of Jed's critical condition, still Jesus remains near, in our pleasant ordinary life with three young daughters. Every adversity we endured was ordained for God's glory and our benefit. Moments spent in prayer, Scripture, and camaraderie with other believers have also bolstered our relationship with the Lord, in addition to our marriage. 2. Develop a solid support system. Another essential aspect of the position of caretaker or spouse is creating a network of trusted confidants. Don't afford anxiety to withhold you from relinquishing burdens to companions or relatives or valuing their encouragement. Whether you need physical assistance, a boost of morale, or even a simple meal, I urge you to engage with the community. Gatherings tailored toward military families can be particularly worthwhile. Likewise, they provide opportunities to exchange personal trials or triumphs to glean wisdom and insight from equivalent experiences. 3. Prioritize connection. Likely, as a couple, you're accustomed to many periods of service-related separations. In order to continue a vibrant and healthy partnership, recognize that communication is crucial. Maintain your marriage through expressing daily updates, exchanging messages of admiration and affection, or requesting assistance with any concerns encountered in their absence. Frequent interaction is not only beneficial but foundational! 4. Establish self-sufficiency. Independence may seem counterintuitive to a thriving union, yet in this case, it's entirely opposite. Following catastrophes, individuals may combat newfound mental or physical impairments. Discovering your capabilities in managing family finances or any household duties, for instance, construct increased confidence and a mentality of resiliency. Moreover, pursuing separate past times or new interests will support your sense of accomplishment and aid in maintaining an optimistic perspective. 5. Sustain your health. Incorporate personal wellness into your schedule, in order to serve from a place of abundance rather than depletion. We are unfit to attend to the demands of others if we cannot manage our own emotional state. Elaborate efforts aren't necessary to be worthwhile; take a stroll, immerse yourself in an engaging story, watch a favorite film, jot down your thoughts, etc. Ultimately, addressing your needs will be advantageous for both you and your enlisted spouse. May God bless and guide you along your journey today! To learn more about Anna's story, visit her website and blog. Lost and Found in Christ Jul 24, 2024
    Show notes

By: Mighty Oaks In the depths of our hearts, many of us have experienced the painful grip of shame. It's a heavy burden that can make us feel isolated, unworthy, and lost. Yet, within the pages of the Bible, we find a powerful narrative that speaks directly to these feelings--the Lost Parables. These parables, found in the book of Luke, is a profound illustration of Christ's relentless love and the transformative journey from shame to redemption. The Weight of Shame Shame is a powerful emotion that can distort our self-perception and sever our connection with others and God. It whispers lies, telling us that we are beyond forgiveness, that our past mistakes define our worth. This toxic cycle can lead to a sense of profound lostness, where we wander aimlessly, seeking solace in the wrong places. The Parable of the Lost Sheep In Luke 15: 4-7, Jesus shares the parable of the lost sheep: "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." This parable vividly portrays the heart of Christ. He is the Good Shepherd who seeks out the lost, not content to leave them in their wandering. His love is personal and intentional, reaching out to each of us, no matter how far we've strayed. Jesus' Response to the Pharisees The context in which Jesus told this parable is crucial. The Pharisees and scribes were criticizing Jesus for associating with sinners and tax collectors. They couldn't understand why a rabbi would spend time with those considered unclean and sinful. Jesus' response through this parable--and others-- was a scolding rebuke to their judgmental attitudes. He wanted to emphasize that His mission was to seek and save the lost, showing that God's heart is one of mercy and grace, not condemnation. Being Found in Christ The journey from shame to redemption begins with recognizing our need for a Savior. It's a humbling realization that we cannot find our way back on our own. Just as the lost sheep is helpless without the shepherd, we are in desperate need of Jesus' guiding hand. When we turn to Christ, acknowledging our sins and our need for His grace, we open ourselves to the transformative power of His love. In that moment of surrender, Jesus lifts us onto His shoulders, carrying us back to the fold. Rejoicing in Redemption The story of the lost sheep reminds us that there is immense joy in heaven when one sinner repents. It is a celebration of grace, a testament to the boundless love of God. As we embrace our identity in Christ, we are called to extend that same love to others, guiding them toward the Good Shepherd who longs to welcome them home.In your journey, remember you are not alone. Christ is with you, seeking you out with relentless love. Let go of the shame that holds you back and embrace the freedom that comes from being found in Him. At the Mighty Oaks Foundation, we stand with you, ready to walk alongside you on this path of redemption and restoration. Conclusion Shame can be a powerful force, but the love of Christ is even more powerful. Through the parable of the lost sheep, we see the heart of Jesus-- a Shepherd and a Father who seek the lost, lift them up, and rejoice in their return. At Mighty Oaks, we are dedicated to helping individuals experience this transformative love and find their way back to the arms of the Good Shepherd. May your journey from shame to redemption be filled with the joy of being found in Christ. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MIGHTY OAKS AND OUR PROGRAMS CLICK HERE!

Breaking The Quiet Jun 13, 2024

By, Leslie Vanderpool Matthew 11:28-30 says “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." On May 27, 2024, women from all over the U.S. arrived at Sky Rose Ranch in California eager for the week but hesitant on what to expect. There was a quietness to the group on the first day. It was a quietness that comes from heavy burdens being carried by each woman. The Women’s Legacy Program started with authenticity and vulnerability as some members of the leadership team openly shared testimonies. As well, the ladies were presented with a challenge to be authentic and vulnerable during the week. They were also challenged with accepting the way God sees them according to scripture and to think about the question, “If what you are already doing isn’t working, why not try something new?” During the opening ice breaker, the participants each shared what brought them to the program and what they expected to get from the week, revealing a common theme that they are not alone in the struggles they are facing. It was evident that many of them had tried several other ways/methods to heal, overcome, and lay their burdens down other than fully surrendering them to Jesus or to have a relationship with Him. Some came with hope for the upcoming week while others came with fear that they were carrying things too heavy to heal. As each class was presented and each breakout session was held, the participants dug deep into the truth from the Bible. The quietness started to fade. Heavy burdens started to lift as women were able to open up and accept the truth that they are not broken but beautifully and intentionally created by God on purpose and for a purpose. Each day the quiet continued to fade and was replaced with the noise of laughter, encouragement, and deep conversation among the students and Mighty Oaks staff. Women arrived as strangers but left with new friendships and a new set of tools to ensure that they never have to fight alone. On the last day, a graduation ceremony was held. It was powerful to look around the room and witness the joy that was beaming from the same women who walked in so weighed down only a few days prior. The joy in the room was not just happiness and laughter, but true joy that can only come from the Lord. Healing was found, strength was renewed, hope was discovered, fear was extinguished, and legacies were changed. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MIGHTY OAKS AND OUR PROGRAMS CLICK HERE!

Planting Seeds of Change: A Week at Sky Rose Ranch  May 20, 2024
    Show notes

By, Tim Stone II  Many men set forth on a journey to attend our First Responder Legacy program this week at SkyRose Ranch. It was a week of profound impact, where 27 men, each carrying their own burdens and stories, arrived seeking something more. What they found was not just a temporary escape, but a journey towards rediscovering themselves through the lens of faith in Jesus Christ.  While covering many topics, we embarked on a journey of spiritual discovery, diving deep into what it truly means to have a relationship with Jesus. For many of these men, it was a concept shrouded in uncertainty, a distant beacon they longed to reach but did not know how.  But through the guidance of scripture and the power of collective vulnerability, something remarkable happened. Walls that had been meticulously constructed over the years, if not decades, began to crumble. In the safety of this sacred space, hearts opened, and stories poured forth like water from a dam released.  The transformation was nothing short of awe-inspiring. To witness these men, some broken and others merely holding on by a thread, find solace in each other's shared experiences was a testament to the healing power of God. As they spoke their truths, the weight of their burdens lifted, replaced by a sense of belonging and acceptance. Acceptance in one thing…GOD  It is often said that we are all walking different paths, each with its own twists and turns. Yet, beneath the surface, we are united by our shared manhood and the desire for something greater than ourselves. At SkyRose Ranch, those paths converged, intersecting at the crossroads of faith and redemption.    As we bid farewell to the ranch and returned to our respective lives, one thing remained abundantly clear: the seeds of change had been planted. In the fertile soil of these men's hearts, the love of God had taken root, ready to blossom and bear fruit in the days and years to come.  Their legacies, once defined by pain and struggle, are now poised for transformation. No longer bound by the chains of their past, they step forward with a newfound sense of purpose and possibility. And though the road ahead may be challenging, they do not walk it alone. For they carry with them the unwavering support of their fellow brothers, bound together by a shared journey towards grace. Even though life will be hard, we have hope in the word of God and the promise that we cannot be separated from his love.  Romans 8: 38-39  38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MIGHTY OAKS AND OUR PROGRAMS CLICK HERE!

Bursting Their Bonds May 07, 2024
    Show notes

By, David Vanderpool On Monday April 22nd, 22 men from the veteran and first responder communities showed up to The Wilds outside Columbus, OH, full of trepidation, anxiety, burdened and not sure what to expect from a week with Mighty Oaks. It was clear that after the Ice Breaker a common thread amongst them was a sense of hopelessness and a lack of purpose for the lives they were leading. Despite the unknown for the week, the men were willing to put the effort in to diligently listen to the classes and participate during the breakouts. Most of these men had tried many paths to healing yet it was apparent that few, if any, had truly helped. Each class gave them another tool and more importantly a perspective that relies on a right relationship with Jesus Christ and faithful submission to Him as the only true path to healing. Each breakout dug deeper to the core of all they were burdened with. By the end of the week grim expressions were replaced with smiles and laughter by men who now understood that spending time with and having a relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is critical for healing, living a life worth living, and leaving a worthwhile legacy. It was clear that God was working in these men to break down the barriers that had been built up over years. Hearts of stone were turned into hearts of flesh, burdens were unloaded, and chains were broken this week at The Wilds. “They cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and burst their bonds apart.” – Psalm 107:13-14, ESV TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MIGHTY OAKS AND OUR PROGRAMS CLICK HERE!

    Coming Alive! May 02, 2024
    Show notes

By, Ann Dodd Twenty ladies took a leap of faith and attended our second Women’s Legacy Program of 2024 this past week. They traveled to the beautiful SkyRose Ranch located in San Miguel, CA, from various parts of the country. Each arrived a bit guarded and apprehensive yet curious about what the week might hold for them. The rolling green hills, breathtaking blue skies, & friendly faces from those on our staff seemed to immediately calm spirits upon arrival. The first class of the week centered on Ephesians 2:10 ”For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.“ Grasping a clear understanding of their worth in Christ positively set the foundation for the rest of the week’s classes. The common thread weaved throughout the week was that of learning to the biblical blueprint for womanhood. This was -live within the framework of our design reinforced in each of the different class topics we covered, and it helped the ladies gain a deeper understanding of God’s purpose for their lives and His deep love for them. It also helped them to see that the Bible really does speak to all of the issues of life. As the week progressed, walls started to come down & nerves were soothed. Slowly the ladies began to realize that they were not alone in their struggles. What a comfort! This allowed them to open up more freely and slowly you could sense hope beginning to rise within them. The ladies expressed that learning to shift their focus to becoming the women that God created them to be and away from their circumstances or others around them impacted them greatly. Regardless of what has been done to us in the past or the choices that have led to our current circumstances, God’s Word assures us that we can move forward in life with purpose and hope as we seek Him in all things. 2 Corinthians 4:6-9 “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” Lamentations 3:22-24 “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I hope in Him!’” Overwhelmingly, what was most apparent among this group of ladies was their sweet and gentle spirits. They were so supportive and encouraging of one another, both during group discussions and in down times of rest and recreation. They stayed focused and put in the hard work to get out of this week all that God intended for them. It was obvious that many of the friendships that were formed this week will continue to grow outside of the session. What a blessing! As we came to the end of the week, the ladies looked visibly lighter & you could see the newfound joy in their eyes. They were excited to go home and to begin implementing their life plan goals, now better equipped with biblical tools and allies. We closed out the week by sharing the song Clean by Natalie Grant. The words of the song so beautifully echoed the week’s journey. I see shattered, you see whole, I see broken, but you see beautiful, And you're helping me to believe, you're restoring me piece by piece. There's nothing too dirty, that you can't make worthy, you wash me in mercy, I am clean. What was dead now lives again, my heart's beating, beating inside my chest. Oh I'm coming alive with joy and destiny, 'Cause You're restoring me piece by piece. This week was only the beginning on the road to healing for these amazing ladies! Our staff was overjoyed to see the transformation in them as they “came alive with joy”.

Forgiveness is Freedom Apr 08, 2024
    Show notes

By Justin Nerdrum, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. Broken from trauma, restless from choices, and feeling “sub-par” due to life events are just a few of the chains our Warriors carry. They feel stuck with no place to go. What they’ve tried on their own has not worked. Even through doubt, in their hearts, they know there is a way out. Veterans and First Responders are brought to one of the ranches in hopes of healing. Twelve men decided to take that first step this March in Haymaker, VA.  On Monday, when these men walked through the doors, they brought their struggles and hardships. While each individual is different, many of the issues are similar. Feelings of rejection, depression, isolation, and failing marriages, are just a few of the common struggles. Throughout the week, we start to uncover the roots of their hurts by learning and understanding Jesus and the salvation he brings us and diving into areas to become strong men of the Lord.  As we discussed forgiveness, walls started to come down.  Forgiveness is a tough topic, and many of us have a hard time with it, whether granting forgiveness to others or searching for forgiveness from those we hurt. We think it’s impossible as we keep our minds filled with darkness. God can forgive us. We don’t deserve it and can’t earn it, but through Jesus, we have been forgiven, showing his everlasting grace and love. That knowledge sets us free to forgive others and make amends with those we have hurt. God is at work in these men, allowing them to offload their burdens, pick up the Word of God, and start building a lasting legacy. When they leave, they are no longer the same as they came in but are now renewed and made new. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Matthew 11:28-29. True healing doesn’t come from our efforts. Many times, we find ourselves stuck and alone. But we aren’t alone. Jesus wants us to pass our struggles to Him, allowing Him to walk by our side and help us through our dark times. But it starts with us making the decision to surrender, repent, and follow His ways. His promise to us is to redeem and restore us. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” – Ezekiel 36:26-27 Our past doesn’t define us. But, if we look to the world for answers and help, we will be disappointed, alone, and without hope. Through Jesus, we have His mercy, hope, love, and forgiveness. We can be free of our bondage and made new. First, we need to turn our hearts to Jesus; from there, He will walk with us through our restoration. The Warriors are encouraged to leave their pack, or burden, at the ranch and depart with the framework to build a lasting legacy. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MIGHTY OAKS AND OUR PROGRAMS CLICK HERE!

Transformations at the Ranch: A First Responder’s Journey Apr 01, 2024
    Show notes

By, Gabe DeLaRosa On September 19-24 we had the pleasure to have a Mighty Oaks Legacy program for a group of 1st responders. All these heroes showed up to the Blaylock Ranch on the afternoon of the 19th unsure of what the week had in store for them. Like most guys in the past that showed up, these men were no different. Anxiety, stress, and nervousness was so apparent, you could see it on their faces and in their body language. When they believed whatever was weighing heavy on their hearts, they soon found out after the Ice Breaker that they were not alone. The same things that were in their chests were in the chests of all the men that were present in that room. As they sat through class after class, they soon started collecting the tools that would make them successful in dealing with whatever was weighing heavy on their hearts when they would return home. They learned through the fellowship that they shared that week that it was important to be transparent, perhaps for the first time in their lives. Once they started to understand that they needed to have a relationship with their Lord and savior, the walls they had built up started to fall apart and the hearts that had been hardened over time, God began to soften them to a heart of flesh. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” - ESV 10-9:5 Matthew TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MIGHTY OAKS AND OUR PROGRAMS CLICK HERE!
