    Longhorn Republic: September 6, 2022 - ULM Recap Sep 06, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns came out and took care of business in the season opener against ULM, cruising to a 52-10 victory to start the season off in the win column. Offensively, the Longhorns' first drive, and quarterback Quinn Ewers' first passes, left a lot to be desired, but after the young signal caller settled in, Texas was able to move the ball well against an outmatched defense. Tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders was one of the biggest highlights of the evening, with the most reception yards by a tight end since Jermichael Finley. Texas also started to hopefully gain some answers on the defensive side of the ball with DeMarvion Overshown and Barryn Sorrell leading the charge in the trenches. If both of those players can emerge as a consistent threat for Texas, the defense may have finally shown some progress year-to-year Help Us Clear these Teacher's Wishlists: https://t.co/Qp22gWssJR https://t.co/N1nenRK4m9 https://t.co/qZKf9PUBBL Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Winning is Hard: Monday Overreactions to Longhorns win over ULM Sep 05, 2022
    Show notes

Sark and the Longhorns took care of business against ULM on Saturday and Wescott Eberts and Cameron Parker give their Monday reactions. Wescott's biggest takeaways from the season-opening victory include the Texas defense, Barryn Sorrell, and others. Cameron then presents Wescott with "overreaction or not?" including Quinn Ewers performance (12:00), the Texas special teams unit (18:00), Pete Kwiatkowski and the defense (22:00), and Alabama (23:00). Longhorn Republic: September 3, 2022 - Instant Reaction from ULM Sep 04, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns were massive favorites over the ULM Warhawks in this one and did what you should do against an outmatched team, cruised to a 52-10 win in the season opener. After a shaky opening possession in which quarterback Quinn Ewers saw his first second-ever pass attempt intercepted, the Longhorns started to roll thanks — in large part to Ewers and his right arm. The freshman finished the game 16/24 for 225 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Ja’Tavion Sanders and Bijan Robinson for scores. Speaking of Robinson, it was a light but productive day for the star running back, finishing his day in the third quarter with 10 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown for his efforts. Perhaps, the defense was the biggest story for Texas, keeping ULM out of the endzone until the fourth quarter when the second and third-string players were in. Now Texas turns its sites to the looming matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Longhorn Republic: September 1, 2022 - Our Predictions for ULM and a Director's Cup Primer Sep 01, 2022
    Show notes

We are two days out from the Texas Longhorns' season opener, which means the offseason is fully behind us, and it's time to discuss some actual football. The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks are coming off a down season under Terry Bowden, but the Longhorns are heading into year two of the Steve Sarkisian era. With no tape for the year, but ideas about what it could be, we dive in on our hopes and expectations for the Longhorns heading into the first game against folks in different-colored jerseys. For a full ULM preview, check out our full team preview from July We also welcome back to the show Brett Wilkinson of Director's Cup Updates to give us a primer on what Texas needs to do this year for the three-peat and what sports the Longhorns could add to help pad the championship resume. Longhorn Republic: August 30, 2022 - Season Preview Aug 30, 2022
    Show notes

It's the first week of the regular season, so it's time for us to finish our previews of the 2022 season by taking a look at the home team, the Texas Longhorns. We close out our position-by-position previews with the defensive back and special teams, before moving on to our hopes and predictions for 2022. What will the secondary look like now that it reflects the coaching staff's ideals for body types and technique? Can it become an asset for the team enhancing what they are able to do in the other facets of the scheme because of the shored-up back end? As it relates to special teams, the talent for the returners is evident, with speed and agility all over the team, but the kickers might be one of the biggest stories to watch of the year. Jeff Banks has to find someone to fill all three spots and may end up doing it with three different players. Longhorn Republic: August 25, 2022 - Baylor Preview with Matt Wilson of Between Two Bears Aug 25, 2022
    Show notes

We've reached the final week of the season preview series, closing out the season with the Baylor Bears on Black Friday. The reigning conference champions lost a ton of production at the skill positions, but bring back a ton of talent -- especially in the trenches -- that should make the reload easier in 2022. Head coach Dave Aranda made one of the starkest turnarounds in all of college football in 2021, taking the Bears from 2-7 in the COVID-shortened season to 12-2 and a New Year's Six win. So how do we calibrate expectations for Baylor in 2022? We welcome Matt Wilson (@mattisbear) to shed some light on these questions and more as we close out our season previews. Longhorn Republic: August 23, 2022 - Ewers Named QB1 and Linebacker Preview Aug 23, 2022
    Show notes

With two weeks left before the season kicks off, the Texas Longhorns officially have their QB1. Steve Sarkisian, through the Sports Information Office, made it known that the transfer redshirt freshman, and former Tom Herman pledge, would be suiting up as the starting quarterback when the season kicks off against ULM. As he heads into game preparation as the first-team quarterback, we look back at the journey that brought him to Texas before looking forward to his time as the quarterback. What do we think went into the decision to name him as the starter and what do we hope to see from him this fall? We also continue through our position group preview series, taking a look at the linebackers -- a group that hopes to improve from last year. DeMarvion Overshown leads the group, with emerging junior Jaylan Ford and transfer linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey joining the group as a transfer from JMU last year. How can an improved linebacker group impact Texas's season outlook overall? Longhorn Republic: August 17, 2022 - Kansas Preview and Longhorn History Aug 18, 2022
    Show notes

It's a packed show covering both the past and the future for the Texas Longhorns. We start with the penultimate chapter of our schedule previews, diving in on the Kansas Jayhawks. After coming into Austin and winning on a two-point conversion, the Jayhawks bring back more productions than any other team in the conference, which bodes well for their trajectory in the second year of Lance Leipold's tenure in Lawrence. So what will it look like for Kansas to take the next step in their march back to national relevance on the gridiron and what are the expectations for a team who has finished at the bottom of the conference for seven-consecutive seasons? Then we shift to Longhorn history, welcoming to the show Jonathan Wells to give us some insight into his two-year journey to settle the debate of which school has produced the most Longhorn football players. He gives us some insight about why he undertook such a detailed analysis and gives us a preview of what exactly he discovered. To read the full list, visit Burnt Orange Nation.
