Committed Impulse with Actor Josh Pais Jan 28, 2021
    Show notes

When we don’t like something we give it a label - good or bad. This is especially true when it comes to how we’re feeling inside at heightened moments of stress.

The truth is that those emotions we often try to reject or run and hide from are just simply “energetic patterns”... and as today’s guest reminds us, if you can think of them as “creative impulses” being given off by our body then everything begins to open.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking to actor Josh Pais about letting go of labels, and how we can learn to stop suppressing our feelings and instead choose to fully connect with who we are and where we are in each moment.

In doing so, we can increase our tolerance for the unwanted feelings that arise and create deeper connections within ourselves, our creative work, our audience and those around us.

Josh Pais (pronounced pice) has been in over a hundred movies and TV shows. After going through a traditional Stanislavski-based actor training, Josh felt there was more. He went on a journey, studying with acting masters and directors from all over the world. He wanted to find a way to make spontaneity something he could count on - as opposed to something that might happen.

He started to workshop and develop ways of accessing that spontaneity and as a result of his explorations, universities and acting companies began asking him to teach. He declared repeatedly that he wasn’t a teacher, but the requests were ongoing and he finally gave it a shot.

Eventually, he founded “Committed Impulse” - a new, revolutionary, and fully comprehensive approach to acting that departs from traditional, heady, Stanislavski based methodologies. Committed Impulse has launched countless careers and reignited the joy of acting for thousands of actors. (But it’s also for speakers, writers, entrepreneurs and creatives of all kinds.)

Some of Josh’s recent acting projects include: Just finished shooting the lead role on a feature film in Ukraine. Shot the pilot DMZ, for HBO Max, directed by Ava DuVernay with Rosario Dawson. It just got ordered to series by HBO. Recent work includes: Recurring on Ray Donovan (as Stu Feldman), Playing the boss, Hoyt Vaughn in Joker. Motherless Brooklyn directed by Edward Norton, HBO’s The Plot Against America. As well as High Maintenance, Mrs. Fletcher, Recurring on Younger, SVU, upcoming: the feature, Two Against Nature with the Safdie Brothers. And he started his career playing Raphael in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

    The Universe Can’t Get Behind Wishy-Washy Jan 21, 2021
    Show notes

As a kid growing up, I often had the hardest time making even the simplest decisions. The thought of making the wrong decision (aka: mistakes) was paralyzing.

I needed choices in order to “feel alive” but give me too many options and I would end up stuck spinning like that damn pinwheel on your computer. Ha!

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re looking at the decision making process and why it can be so debilitating for some of us.

The thing is, if we keep sitting on the fence about things, our hesitancy can get in the way of the universe being able to step in and help us.

We need to commit to a choice, either way, and be willing to take that first brave step or leap of faith so the guidance can or will actually come.

Finding a way to get out of our heads, to drop down into our body, and more specifically into our hearts - in order to get clear and make full embodied decisions is where happiness and success can be found.

“Once we commit”, WH Murray tells us, “then Providence will move too!” Amen!

Your Whole Life Is Built On Relationships Jan 14, 2021
    Show notes

Our whole life is built on relationships. We are literally in relationship to everything and everyone around us. The fact is, happy, healthy, strong relationships with others only happen if we have cultivated one with ourselves.

If we don’t take care of the primary, internal relationships first - with Self, Source & Spirit - there’s no way we’re going to relate to the rest of the world in a deeply fulfilling manner.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about understanding our role in the suffering we experience. As I often say to my clients & members, “You are the common denominator in all of your relationships.”

It’s not enough to sit back and complain about why things keep happening the way they do - you have to be willing to look inward and see what’s yours to own.

If we want better relationships with the world and people around us, it starts with us and our connection to the Divine.

Going back to Source & Spirit is where everything else is born out of: our relationship in marriage & partnerships, with our kids, friends, work & business, our creativity… they’re all affected by how we connect internally with ourselves and our Spiritual Team (ST).

Before you can change your lives… Before you can change your relationships.... Before you can change the world, you’ve gotta’ change your own damn self.

We have to do the personal & Spiritual work of owning both our brilliance and bullsh*t.

And I know just the thing to help you do that, week in and week out. Listen to find out!

You’re The One You’ve Been Waiting For Jan 07, 2021
    Show notes

Sometimes in life, we’ve gotta’ be our own hero. It does us no good to sit around waiting for someone else to come and save us.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about showing up for ourselves, making our own decisions and not asking permission from anyone to do it.

The sooner we realize that there’s no knight in shining armour coming to our rescue and that we’re responsible for our own choices, peace, happiness & healing; the healthier and more complete we will be.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that we’ll never need or want any outside help. From time to time, we of course, will need some assistance, guidance and input from our external world.

In fact, it’s totally OK and encouraged to seek support in the areas that we’re struggling in - so long as we don’t make that external support - the end all be all in every area of our life.

We don’t want to wait around waiting for others to fix us, clean up our messes, complete us or to give you permission to do the things we know we need to do. Go out and be proactive in your own healing. Seek your own liberation. Be your own hero!

Do you ever think back on your life and wish you could just hit the reset button and give yourself a damn do-over?

    Don't Shrink + Don't Puff Up Dec 24, 2020
    Show notes

In Chapter 13 of A Course in Miracles it says: “You have but two emotions, love and fear… and one you made (Fear/the ego) and one was given you (Love/God).”

Love or fear are the only two emotions that we as people fall under. Anything that doesn’t fall into the category of Love, automatically lands itself under the guise of fear. Fear can show up as so many things like; shame, blame, jealousy, rage, judgment, and feeling unworthy. There are many different masks that fear wears in reaction to our state of mind. When we’re in this reactionary state of fear (and also trauma) we trigger what is known as: The 4 F’s: Fight, Flight, Freeze or Fawn.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about how a story I heard from author and researcher Brene’ Brown, inspired this episode of becoming more aware of our fear state so that we can stop ourselves from shrinking down or puffing up out of fear and instead make a conscious choice for Love to “stand on the sacred ground” that God you.

One where we can learn to internally diffuse a situation and keep ourselves from reacting in an unkind way that only makes the situation worse.

It's kind of a natural animal instinct to make ourselves big or small when we feel threatened or attacked. So it’s our job to train our mind to slow down and pause so we can choose how we want to proceed.

Are we going to come out swinging or put our dukes up out of fear? Or are we going to listen to our Inner Teacher of spirit and choose love? We can build the muscles that help us to attune and align ourselves to the emotion that was given to us: Love.

It's Not About The Pasta Dec 10, 2020
    Show notes

Let’s be honest, it’s not really about the pasta.

Whenever we find ourselves upset or not at peace - it helps to recognize that it’s often not about that thing. It was actually about all the built up hurt, anger, frustration or needs that have not been met within us.

If we’re willing to be honest, sometimes we lose our cool over the smallest shit and to the person on the receiving end - it seems like we’ve lost our ever loving mind. Ha!

When the reality is that leading up to this moment in time, we’ve been pushing down, shoving into the cupboard or closets of our bodies and minds, all of our internal frustrations. Stuff has been building up and the emotional landmine has been set.

Only to one day, have something that seems insignificant such as “the pantry being out of pasta” - trigger us, push a button or set us off. BOOM! And Lord help the poor suckers or accused that lie in our wake or stand in our way.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re taking a look at what it means to be really open and honest about how we’re feeling “along the way” and dealing with them as things come up - rather than holding it all in until we literally explode all over the next person that happens to walk into the room.

Sometimes, when we're unhappy or suffering, we think it's about the thing that just happened or the button that got pushed by someone else, but it's not. It's almost never about that or them. In order to heal and deepen our relationships with ourselves and others, we have to be vulnerable, take ownership and delve more deeply into the heart of things, so we can recognize that at the end of the day - it’s not about the pasta.

Stop Apologizing For The Woo Dec 03, 2020
    Show notes

Have you ever heard the statement, “I'm about to go all ‘woo, woo’ on you”?
I was thinking to myself the other day, “Why does everybody feel the need to apologize for the “woo”?” Why do people lead with a warning, like; “OK, so I'm about to go all ‘woo’, on you” as if all the adults in the room need to prepare themselves or perhaps they couldn't handle it.
It’s as if we have some sort of fear that others will not take us seriously (as a leader or a business person or whatever) or that we’ll be judged for trusting our intuition, discussing spirituality or leading with love.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re looking at the reasons why we should stop saying sorry for opening up spiritually with others. When we apologize or give them a warning for what we’re about to say, we’re sending out a signal that people should somehow be ashamed and uncomfortable about their spirituality and personal growth.
The thing is, we’re all children of God/Universe and we all have intuition & gut feelings, etc. - that makes us spiritual beings that are an extension of the loving Divine. We are Spirit having a human experience. Our whole life is our spiritual life and as I jokingly say, “It’s not “woo-woo, it’s true-true.” Ha! So maybe it’s time to stop apologizing for it, start embracing it and share it openly with the world.

Be Kind, Be Kind, Be Kind Nov 26, 2020
    Show notes

One of the challenges of being human is that the ego-mind automatically leads with its opinions, judgements, and stories that will either build others up or more likely tear them down. It has no neutral thoughts and it’s almost always sure that it’s right and because of this, we think we know and understand where someone else is coming from.

We write stories, apply meaning and assign ourselves the role of judge and jury. What we learn however, as we move through life is that we actually don’t know the whole picture or truth when it comes to others.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about having the willingness to let go of our judgements and allowing our preconceived ideas to fall away. It’s an invitation to practice being more kind.
We honestly never really know what someone else has gone or is going through. We don’t know what their reality is or what it’s like to be them.
We can’t possibly even begin to understand until we have a willingness to get personal, listen and talk to others about these things.
It’s not always an easy task to set aside our perspectives and opinions - but the only way we’re going to get through this life together - is if we put down our judgements, lead with curiosity and love, step up as instruments of peace and Be Kind, Be Kind, Be Kind.
