A traumatic accident.
Or maybe your bad news is that there just seems to be no good news.
What if no matter what we faced in this life we could trust and believe that there is still good news...That there's always good news.
In today's episode we talk about how in the midst of all the bad news, there is still good news because of a good God!

Tomorrow, October 10, is World Mental Health Day so we wanted to re-share one of our favorite mental health episodes. At the end of May, we talked about highlights and takeaways from our Mental Health Awareness Month episodes.

Walking Through Heartbreak & Loss... Again. Aug 28, 2024

This is by far one of the hardest episodes we’ve ever recorded.

A little over a month ago, my amazing father-in-law, Greg Bean, suddenly took his last breath here on earth and his first in heaven.

I asked my husband, Parker, if he would be willing to share how he is processing the devastating loss of his dad.

Although this is a very difficult episode, it is filled with so much HOPE…
Hope that this is not the end of the story.
Hope in eternal life.
And hope today, because of the One who walks with us one breath at a time.

If you or someone you love is walking through grief, we hope and believe you will be encouraged and comforted through this episode.

"I travel the country sharing my story of perseverance...But never quite like this.
I talk about my life growing up in the small town of East Brady, Pennsylvania, my college years playing football at the University of Miami, being drafted by the Buffalo Bills, and yes...the 4 Super Bowl losses.
I also talk about my wife, Jill, and my three children. I share about my son, Hunter, born on my birthday, February 14th, and his life and death after he was diagnosed with a fatal genetic disease called Krabbe Leukodystrophy.
I talk about battling cancer 4 times.
But more than anything...I share what the good Lord has done in my life. How He has helped me persevere in the midst of all of the tests and trials I have been through.
Even after all I've been through, I'm still here to make a difference. And as I encourage everyone to do whenever I share my story... Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for their tomorrow!"

How to overcome the fear of falling back into depression & anxiety (MHAM - Episode 4) May 22, 2024

When you've come out of a dark season of depression and anxiety you can't bear the thought of falling back into the darkness again. It's terrifying to even think about.
Maybe you've experienced breakthrough but you're worried you'll be broken again.
Maybe light has finally burst through but you're afraid darkness is around the corner.
So how do we overcome this fear?
How do we replace the lies with the truth?
We've both experienced the fear of falling back into depression and anxiety. In fact, there are moments when we still battle this fear. But we're learning how to overcome it, and we want to share what we've learned with you!

"God is greater than all of our fears, and he is and always will be in control. God himself is the only one that can calm our fears. He is the only one that can truly calm the stirring in your heart over the future, quiet your mind, and renew your mind." - Jill

When you're struggling in the midst of a season of depression and anxiety, it feels like the pit of darkness will consume you.
It can seem like there's no way out.
It feels like light will never return.
But... there's hope!
There's always hope!
You will not stay in the lows of depression forever.
You will come through the dark valley you're in.
But while you're in the valley, God is with you and He will comfort you!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!!
We will be spending this entire month talking about all things mental health.
The truth is, we couldn't authentically talk about this topic unless we had walked through our own seasons of pain and struggle in our mental health. And because of that, we are passionate about raising awareness and bringing hope to those who are hurting too.
In today's episode, we are kicking off our mental health conversations by talking about where we are right now in our mental health journeys. We share truths and tools that have helped us walk through depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, and more.
We hope and pray that through listening you will be encouraged in the midst of your own mental health journey. And if you don't personally struggle with mental health, we believe this episode will help guide you in how to come alongside someone you love who may be struggling.

The reality is, no matter what your past looks like, we all have a story that God can, and will redeem. He is able to do the impossible. He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ever imagine.
Your past is not too painful for God to heal.
Your mistakes do not define you.
Your failures are not final.
You are never too far gone.
At the end of the day, God knows you've changed... and that's enough!

In the fast paced, highly advanced, materialistic, chaotic culture we live in, it's easy to get distracted. On any given day we're all inundated with information pulling us in a thousand different directions. Pulling us away from what matters most - our relationships and more specifically our relationship with God.
In today's episode, we talk about how to stay connected to God in a culture that tries to push Him out of everything. We share what has helped us prioritize our relationship with Christ over everything else. Ultimately, culture can try to take God out of everything, but it can never take God out of us.

The Abner Family's Story Nov 01, 2023

In Season 3 we shared the incredible story of the Abner family. But, in honor of the amazing announcement of the $1 Million Endowment in honor of their daughter Katelynn, we want to share their story again!
This endowment was given in honor of Katelynn Abner (10/31/08 – 7/4/14) and will establish the “Katelynn’s Butterfly Kisses Program”, ensuring that the legacy of Katelynn will continue for years to come.
The Katelynn’s Butterfly Kisses Program provides support for individuals with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), Newborn Screening, the Leukodystrophy Care Network (LCN), MLD Families, and Sibling Support, with priority given to military families affected by Leukodystrophy.
The Abner family’s dedication to the legacy of Katelynn is evident in all they do to make a difference each day in their lives. Hunter’s Hope is honored to partner with the Abner family to help families through the Katelynn’s Butterfly Kisses Program.

He is in every moment... past, present, and future.
He's been there all along and He's not going anywhere.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. Who are your people?

Maybe you feel like all your people disappeared the moment darkness entered your story. People who promised to be there and love you but left when things got hard.

If this is you, I believe you will connect with Beth and her amazing story. When her daughter, Eden, was diagnosed with a fatal disease and years later went to heaven, Beth lost her closest friends. The people in her life she thought would stand by her side in the midst of the suffering. Although it broke her heart to watch people walk out of her life, she watched God bring life and hope into her loneliness.

When people left, He brought new people into her life. People she didn’t even know she needed. But God did… He knew the people Beth needed in her life during her season of suffering. And he knows the people you need in your life too.

Jesus is Everything...
He is Sovereign.
He is Gentle.
He is Love.
He is Beyond Our Comprehension.
He is Everything.
Come to Him as you are.
He loves you... All of you.
And He will never change His mind about you.
The book Erin referenced is Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund.
She quoted from John Bunyan's book, Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ.
Here is the quote...
"No, wait" - we say, cautiously approaching Jesus - "You don't understand. I've really messed up, in all kinds of ways."
I know, He responds.
"You know most of it, sure. Certainly more than what others see. But there's perversity down inside me that is hidden from everyone."
I know it all.
"Well - the thing is, it isn't just my past. It's my present too."
I understand.
"But I don't know if I can break free of this any time soon."

An Important Message From Jill Kelly Feb 10, 2023

On February 9th, Jill Kelly shared Hunter’s story before the Federal Newborn Screening Advisory Committee.

Along with other families, doctors, and foundations, Hunter’s Hope has been trying to get Krabbe disease on the Federal Newborn Screening Panel for almost two decades so that every child born in the United States is screened at birth and diagnosed in time to receive life saving treatment.

The decision made by this committee is a matter of life and death.

If Hunter was screened at birth for Krabbe disease he might still be here today.

But he was not screened at birth and therefore he was never able to get life saving treatment.

Jill shares the shocking results of the committee’s decision and how it affects every child born in the United States.

Light Your Heart With Hope is the meaning of the Hunter’s Hope logo, a flame in a heart.

Several years ago, after our logo was designed and we had been using it for many years as a symbol of hope for here on earth for affected children and their families,
we realized that it held an even deeper message of the greatest Hope, the Hope of Christ, and of complete healing in Heaven.

We discovered the verse, 2 Corinthians 4:6.
For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made His light shine in our hearts
to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

This message, whether we understood it or not at the beginning of the foundation, has always been at the core of who we are. We just didn’t realize it like we do now.

When darkness tries to take over, God steps in, if we let Him, with His Light and His Glory, in Christ.

This is the theme of the podcast.
