The House List is a casual, long-form conversational show by music industry veteran Peter Agoston. Agoston got his start on terrestrial radio in 1994 and from there set off on a long journey that continues to this day. Years spent contributing print writing and photography for the likes of Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, The Source, Miami New Times, Wax Poetics and more. Ep. 119 - GE-OLOGY guest DJ mix - "THE ART OF THE DIG (In Story Form)" Feb 26, 2020
    Show notes

Long time friend and affiliate of The House List podcast (see: Ep. 16 for our long form conversation) GE-OLOGY contributes an expansive, deeply soulful mix to our extended DJ series. This was recorded in his Brooklyn, NY studio with all original pressing vinyl and you can tell how well he keeps his records, because the sound is sonically stellar on this. GEO now has settled comfortably into the roll as a world class, world traveling DJ. Known for his late night, extended DJ sets - he's dug deeply into the most cosmic sounds of gospel, dance, soul, house, funk and more for this brand new exclusive DJ mix. This is like bringing one of those dark, packed club nights at 4AM straight to your headphones. Hoping it brings you back for repeated listens, as there are some real rare gems within this mix. Enjoy and make sure to follow GE-OLOGY on all of his socials and please, don't forget to subscribe and share this episode freely.

    Ep 118. - DJ Stef Old School Mix (A Side / 1992) Feb 21, 2020
    Show notes

The latest installment of our DJ series is a very very special mix from our friend, the late, great DJ Stef. A long time supporter of The House List, as well as a good friend to its creator Peter Agoston - this rare all vinyl DJ mix was recorded by DJ Stef back in 1992. He husband Serge generously allowed me to upload this, he also says "About ten years ago Stef gave out copies of this tape for the 5th anniversary of her party Spindig...This mix has only ever existed as a cassette release and was originally recorded in 1992 and the follow up to her Old School Mix I tape that she released on her Lounge and Parlay Records label." I am uploading each side individually, both A and B. Please make sure to listen to both. Stef passed away suddenly in 2017, and the Bay Area hip-hop has forever been changed. She truly was a hip-hop pioneer, nurturing the scene and most of all a great great DJ. Hope you enjoy this very cool old school hip-hop mix, I definitely did!

    Ep. 117 - Jason McGuiness (2020 DJ Mix) Feb 10, 2020
    Show notes

The DJ mix series is continuing on in full force. I'm very pleased the share our latest curated edition, coming from my dude in San Diego, Jason McGuiness. We go way back to the days of Humboldt. He has become a respected record collector and seller and recently opened a very cool shop in San Diego called Soul Shack Records. Find them at soul-shack.com or when you pass through SD on 3535 Adams Ave. We recently DJ'ed together in LA, where I was so impressed by Jason's selections I asked him if he'd be down to do a mix for the podcast. This time I am actually including the tracklist below. That way if this is all new to you, then you can research and discover on your own. If you like what I am doing with these mixes, please like, subscribe and share among other music/DJ heads you know. Re-post / throw on some message boards/sub-reddits and let's keep this going y'all. I know my podcast is a unique one, so just trying to keep nurturing for those that appreciate the offerings.

    Ep. 116 - Buck 65 (2020 DJ Mix) Feb 03, 2020
    Show notes

Continuing on with our DJ-mix series our latest installment is from none other than Buck 65. This is new brand, exclusive to The House List podcast and I can assure you, it's fantastic. This is an anything goes all-out musical journey into the netherworld of broken funk breaks and rare jawns few have heard. Much like Rich's career as Buck 65, the mix spans genre, is unafraid to mix and match styles and eras. Casual listeners to super hardcore heads alike will enjoy this one. It's fire. Spread the word. Make sure you subscribe to The House List too. Rich has been hosting/DJing on Canada's CBC Nework's 'Drive' radon show for years. You can catch his show streaming here: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/2-5519-drive

    Ep. 115 - DJ Spinna (2020 Mix) Jan 27, 2020
    Show notes

Brooklyn's own DJ Spinna marks the 1st entry of our new DJ mix series. The mix, exclusively produced for The House List, is an awesome blend of old and new, super soulful, inspired tunes, perfect for any time of year or time of day. DJ Spinna is straight masterclass disc jock and it's a honor to have him a part of this. He is one of my all time favorite DJ's to spin live. If you haven't already, go back into the House List podcast files and check out in-depth conversation on episode 60 - it's a very good one. We'll post the track listing eventually on our Twitter page @HouseListPod

    Ep. 114 - Manifest (pt. 2) Nov 14, 2019
    Show notes

A year ago I sat down with Peter Collins (aka Manifest) on episode 71 and re-traced his life story leading to a tumultuous head with an ill fated Northern California casino robbery in the Fall of 2006. Pete went on the lam until being apprehended in Washington state some months later. This - as the previous episode - is meant to be a cautionary tale of what can go wrong when a person finds themselves at the end of their rope. Now days he can sagely reflect on the untimely decisions made by a man in the throws of addiction. Today he is a well adjusted member of society, doing well. I highly recommend going back to our first conversation (also recorded in Oakland, Calif) on episode 71 to get the full scope. Shout out to DJ CJ. Thanks for listening!

    Ep. 112 - Anika Oct 17, 2019
    Show notes

Making a rare appearance in Los Angeles for her live set at Desert Daze, the great Anika (pka Annika Henderson) is our guest on the 112th episode of The House List. Beyond being a vocalist/performer, she spent years as a show promoter, journalist and more. UK by way of Berlin, all of Anika's various artists endeavors are very much worth seeking out. Many may already have known of her debut s/t release from 2010 - in our convo I learn of many more projects she's created like the stellar Exploding Youth. Her story of her artists residency in Iran is pretty fascinating. After the convo I learned of some pretty amazing projects from her coming in 2020. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to subscribe via the Pantheon Podcast network.

    Ep. 111 - Celph Titled Oct 09, 2019
    Show notes

Celph Titled is our guest on today's very special episode to The House List. Many know his work both as a producer and vocalist combined with Apathy, but within the many facets of groups like the prolific Demigodz and Army of the Pharaohs - here we dig into the origin story of his first group Equilibrium and much more. We even get some rec.music.hiphop talk in, for the older-older heads. Recorded in Los Angeles while on tour with Apathy.
