The Good, The Bad, and The Sequel

Hosts Doug and Jamie are talking sequels and they do it in 2 parts. First, Doug interviews an actor or someone involved that made the film worth watching. They provide us with some insight into the sequel and also talk about their careers. Former guests include Eric Roberts, William Sadler, Robert Hays, Vanessa Angel, and Tiny Lister, just to name a few.  And the second, a discussion of the sequel; What they got right, what they got wrong and how it could’ve been better.

    Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "The Pink Panther 2" starring Steve Martin and I was lucky enough to interview the director of it, Harald Zwart. Harald and I talked about our love of Back to the Future, how he met his wife, how the director's pitch to land a job (great story), and making sure all of his films have a big premiere in his hometown of Fredrikstad, Norway. Great chat. Watch the unedited interview and check out photos provided by Harald at sequelsonly.com/HaraldZwart Next up is our review of "The Pink Panther 2 "which is free on Netflix and Pluto. Show notes

The next sequel we are reviewing is "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor" and that means we can finally scratch a Star Wars off our list. This week's interview is with a former rock n roll bass player, Peter Bernstein, who turned in a pretty good composer. Peter's story always involved a love of music, maybe having a legendary Emmy award-winning Composer in the house. No matter what, Peter was going to do something he was passionate about. Peter and I talked about his friendship with John Landis led his father to start working in comedies, live movie concerts, his preparation for Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, and more.

We are kicking off 2023 by talking "Lethal Weapon 3" which is the perfect way to start the new year. Riggs and Murtaugh are on the cop duo Mount Rushmore for sure. We talked about the havoc they cause without getting fired, Riggs and Roger's daughter, the tropey evil developers, Leo and his bleached hair, and so much more. A Look Back at 2022 Dec 29, 2022
    Show notes

As 2022 comes to an end, we wanted to take the time to look back at the year that was with a little awards show. This also happens to be our 250th episode, which is wild. In this episode, Jamie and I reveal some Top 4 lists of 2022 that we came up with; categories include favorite sequels, worst characters, favorite interviews, and more. This was a year that had us cover one of the Mt. Rushmore of sequels in Aliens, but also had some bottom-of-the-barrel sequels along the way. Having said that no matter which one of the 23 sequels we covered this year, we had a blast reviewing them, whether it was just me and Jamie or one of our amazing guest reviewers. I was also lucky enough to interview so many people I have admired throughout my sequel-loving life that includes a legendary vicious boss, Hollywood's go-to Bug Wrangler, another Jason Voorhees victim, stunt artists, directors, script supervisor, special effects, and more. Thanks for being a part of 2022 and look forward to providing even more entertainment in 2023.

You can watch it at sequelsonly.com/2022

We are kicking off 2023 on a high note with our 1st Lethal Weapon and we are starting with #3. I chatted with Director and Editor Norman Buckley for this one. Norman had quite a journey to Hollywood that involved going from a History major until his mom helped him pick going to film school. Norman caught a big break working on a film in his home state of Texas after he graduated from BYU. Norman did editing on films like Lethal Weapon 3, Silent Night Deadly Night 5, Phantasm III, and more. Norman's big break came while editing on "The O.C." and asking to direct and they said yes. Since then you can see Norman directed shows like Gossip Girl, Charmed, Pretty Little Liars, Sweet Magnolias, and more.

    Show notes

Happy Holidays, Sequel lovers! This week we are talking "Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toymaker" which was one of the most mysterious sequels yet that had us guessing until the very end. This sequel gave us some great SFX, which is standard when a friend of the podcast Brian Yuzna is involved. We talked Mickey Rooney kicking ass, the weird toys, the terrible adults (like always), the not speaking trope, and more. This was a fun one for sure
