How being a single woman in the Black church was traumatic Jul 29, 2020
    Show notes

The church, for many, in the Black community is seen collectively as a place of refuge, safety, and freedom. It has been deemed an environment to collectively gather to worship, connect with the divine, and fellowship with other believers but that has only been a part of the experience for many Black women. The other part of being a part of a ministry is riddled with shame, microaggressions, and trauma that's very much connected to a relationship status or appearance. This week's confession comes from, our very own Danielle Moore, sharing her lived experience of being single, without children in the Black church.

The Power of A Confession Jul 15, 2020
    Show notes

Typically, Danielle & Cameo are active members of the "Mind Your Business" Ministries but this time around we struggled a bit and had to have a conversation around Jada's & Will's recent Red Table Talk.

It's only because amid all the fun, games, and discussions there were definitely crucial elements of the conversation that we didn't see being had, particularly trauma bonding and the power of a confession.

So this week, Danielle Moore, licensed mental health therapist of Refresh Wellness Center, and Cameo King, The Good Girl Podcast host, sit down and unpack just how powerful a confession can be in changing our lives and what we missed listening to the Red Table Talk.

PODCAST: Do you know how to respond when you are losing control? Jul 10, 2020
    Show notes

Losing control has been a common theme in our lives over the past few months. Many of us have lost control of the things we once considered stable and unmovable, whether it was our jobs, the ability to move about freely, how we worship, and even the nature of our relationships. Now, control a foreign concept. So this week, S. LadyBug, a former scientist and now founder and leader of the Yarn Movement, shares a confession about the importance of our response when we lose control. She shares that how we respond is the most important factor in any situation that's out of our control.

My role in oppressive relationships Jul 02, 2020
    Show notes

Whether I knew it or not, at one point in my life, I believed my value as woman shifted because of what I could do for a man - whether it was to “upgrade him” “be his peace” or “hold it down.” And that was probably one thee most damaging beliefs I didn’t know I had. At one point, I honestly believed that I needed to be all the things that a man desired to be valuable. I even held that harmful standard for other women. So this week, I'm sharing how my role oppressive relationships harmed myself and harmed others.

Attorney Kyona McGhee: "I'm All Losing Control" Jun 19, 2020
    Show notes

It is ingrained into every fiber of our being that we as humans can control much of our life outcomes. If we work hard, we will get great results. If we eat well, our bodies will be healthy. If we plan for the worst, we will always be prepared. But if there is anything that the first 6 months of 2020 has taught us, it's that we have very little control over the flow of our lives. Listen as Kyona McGhee, founder of the McGhee law and the "Beyonce of Trademark Lawyers" details losing control in every part of life.

Black Women, who told us our lives didn't matter? Jun 05, 2020
    Show notes

Breonna Taylor would have been 27 years today. She was killed 2 months ago when police broke down her apartment door and shot her 8 times. No charges have been filed in connection with her death. This, like too many other violent experiences of Black women have seemed to get lost in national conversations about police brutality and racism.

This week we ask, "Black women, who told us our lives didn't matter?" We attempt to address why it seems like the stories and lives of Black women are simply not a priority.

Three Ways to live in this moment while protecting your peace May 29, 2020
    Show notes

The death of George Floyd at the hands of 4 Minneapolis Police officers has sparked an uprising throughout the nation and world. It has left portions of the city of Minneapolis decimated as a message for a much-needed revolution.

It has also created trauma for Black people. Trauma that is taxing on our mental health. As a result, I'm sharing three ways to live in this historic moment and protect your peace. My mom also joins the conversation sharing some insight after living through the Detroit 1967 uprising.

LIVE: "What I had to relearn about Christianity as a woman." May 21, 2020

On our journey, many of us have had to rediscover & redefine what genuine faith looks like. We've had to unlearn and then relearn the character of God. Be a part of this transparent LIVE conversation as we chat about the things we simply got absolutely wrong about womanhood & Christianity. Jennifer Lucy Tyler, Founder of Soul Circle Events and Saphina Carla, Blogger at Saphina Carla and future author, join Cameo King of The Good Girl Podcast for a live conversation about a failed faith and rediscovery of Christ that included tears, anger, seeking discipleship, and humility.

The Truth about Infertility Trauma May 13, 2020
    Show notes

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes infertility. Actually infertility could be before, after, or during a woman's lifespan and unfortunately, many women struggle in silence. This is why I am intentionally having this conversation around Mother's Day. I am chatting with the founder of the Broken Brown Egg, Regina Townsend, about the complex truth about infertility with Black women. In this chat, Regina shares what leads to private suffering, the fact that a child doesn't "cure" infertility, and why you don't ask women about their wombs.

"The Capitalization of Christian Purity Culture" and how it has failed us during a global pandemic. May 13, 2020
    Show notes

"Christian Purity" has been the hallmark and foundation of many churches throughout western society. It is the idea that the success of a believer's faith is summed up in their performance and ability to "do good." But what happens when you perform well and do good but your goals, desires, and dreams are null and void or simply fall apart? This week's conversation focuses on just that - the failed faith of many women who believed, followed, and proclaimed that a form of purity (celibacy, modesty, going to church) would produce some type of extra blessing ( a husband, kids, and security)...but it didn't.
