Two new Monchrom(e) cameras have been announced recently - one from Leica and one from Pentax. So what's the deal with cameras that can only shoot black and white? What is it like to use them? Are they still relevant with today's amazing camera tech?

Two things this week. First, given that an AI has won a photo contest now and the artist refused the prize, what does that actually mean for photography? More a conversation about the nature of artistic processes than about AI tech - more philosophical really. Jeremiah shares some photos with an interesting process to test our ideas.

Second, "is the 'have-a-go' podcaster era coming to an end"? So asks a monolithic broadcaster 😂 and we have some opinions!

Revisiting - because it's important - the topic of how to preserve our creative and cultural legacy. What formats (physical and digital) might last? What archival services do we need? Is it eogtistical to want a legacy? Is it important culturally? Do we just need loads of data to train the AIs?

Devastating earthquake or storm in a teacup? Many of us have used and loved DPReview.com over the years and soon it will be shut down. As you might expect from TFOP, our conversation starts here by asking "what does it all mean?" and then ranges far and wide 😂.

But what happens to the enormously valuable resource that dpreview.com has created over the last 25 years? It is reported that the Internet Archive will host a backup to keep it available for us all. Here's hoping!

251 Is the Value of a Photo Trending to Zero? Mar 08, 2023

What is the value of a photo? Is it trending to zero? Did we say that when we swapped glass plates for negative film? Did the value rise mid-20th century when photography became recognised as a fine art form?

First, of course, we need to define "value", which is harder than you might think 😀

We all get super excited about new photo toys. How come though these are all at one end of the creative process - the capture. Cameras are (of course) pretty cool and lenses likewise. Arguably, printers are less sexy but have just as much impact on your images. Discuss!
