Kevin & Query - Thursday 10/20 - Covering the Pacers season opener, Colts/Titans Preview, and Scott Agnes Oct 20, 2022
    Show notes

(00:00 - 26:43) - The Indiana Pacers home opener was last night. Kevin and Query open by talking about what good they saw in the Pacers loss to the Washington Wizards. Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin had stand out performances. Turner got injured during warm ups as he tripped over a ball boy. A brief aside to talk basketball involving colleges. IU and Purdue basketball season expectations. Then back to Pacers, can Isiah Jackson be a starting NBA center? Pacers attendance was lacking. Is there another level to Tyrese Haliburton's play?

    (26:44 - 32:00) - Morning Checkdown

(32:01 - 43:05) - Colts Injury report is looking pretty good going into this week's game against the Titans. Kevin revisits the question from yesterday's show on if a Colts offensive line has a lower ceiling or a higher floor without Shaquille Leonard. How much pressure do Chris Ballard or Frank Reich feel knowing that the other team is coached the way Jim Irsay wants his team to be coached.

(43:06 - 1:11:26) - After the Pacers loss to the Wizards last night, Bennedict Mathurin wanted no part in shaking the other teams hands and went right to the locker room. A lot of focus on the great things that the Pacers did last night. The performance from Haliburton and Mathurin was exceptional. Mathurin scoring 19 points in his first NBA game. Callers start to trickle in and give their opinions on the Pacers loss. Greg Doyle of the IndyStar delivers a surprise call in to the show. He gives a description of this 2022-2023 Pacers season opener. Doyle expresses a hopeful future for the Pacers after watching the young talent this season. He does mention though that fans are going to have to love to laugh or else this is going to be a long year.

(1:11:27 - 1:29:11) - Scott Agnes of The Fieldhouse Files joins the program. Scott shares in manys excitement about this young team. Why is Daniel Theis on this team? What is his role? The Pacers introduced this weird "crowd hype" event to start the game where Mario Andretti pretended to rev an IndyCar engine in order to get the crowd excited. This pairs with their slogan this season, "Revved Up."

(1:29:12 - 1:34:42) - The guys close out the hour with a handful of calls about the Pacers. One caller really enjoyed Mathurin's standout performance, scoring his very first shot in the NBA mere seconds after stepping on the court. One caller went to their first game since the pandemic and loved the renovations done to the fieldhouse.

(1:34:43 - 1:59:00) - The Athletic's Zak Keefer calls into the program and shifts the conversation to the Colts matchup against the Titans on Sunday. Keefer notes the Titans are on fire right now having won four in a row. Kevin asks about the defensive lineup and questions still outstanding after six weeks. Isiah Rodgers vs. Brandon Facyson and who deserves to be getting the start next week. Keefer stresses that this team needs to start creating more turnovers, they can't just continue to rely on keeping up with their opponents scoring. Did Jim Irsay put an unneccessary spotlight on the Colts vs. Commanders game due to his comments about Dan Snyder.

    (1:59:01 - 2:08:03) - Pop Quiz

(2:08:04 - 2:19:20) - The fellas close out the show talking to Marion University head-coach Mark Henninger. The Knights coach talks about their winning season so far and upcoming game against Concordia this weekend. The Knights are currently ranked 10th in their league. Coach Henninger feels confident about their ability to finish out the season with some strong wins. Show notes

Stephen Holder of The Athletic and IndyStar calls into the program and gives his take on the Irsay situation. Query and Holder go back and forth about how Irsay is probably the owner people know most about in the NFL. This benefits Irsay's ability to speak against Snyder as there is likely nothing that could come out against
him that most don't already know about. Kevin wonders how other owners will handle the Snyder controversy moving forward. Talk turns to the future of this Colts season. If Jonathan Taylor's injury lead to the Colts choosing to play the no-huddle offense last Sunday. Holder is excited for the Commanders vs. Colts matchup later this year.

    Show notes

(00:00 - 24:16) - What else is there to talk about when the show opens up? Jim Irsay made some comments last night regarding the Washington Commanders owner. Kevin and Query breakdown the comments made by both Irsay and Dan Snyder. How these comments will be perceived by people inside and outside the National Football League. Pacers season is getting underway at Gainbridge Fieldhouse today! They take on the Washington Wizards in their season opener. A recap of the Philadelphia Phillies victory over the San Diego Padres last night. Are people rooting for the New York Yankees over the Houston Astros?

    (24:17 - 28:36) - Morning Checkdown

(28:37 - 43:13) - A detailed breakdown of the Irsay audio against Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder. Clips are played of the interview Irsay gave after yesterday's owner meeting where he originally spoke against Snyder. Irsay spoke out despite Snyder's alleged attempts to silence other owners. Jake has only one fear about Irsay's comments, being that the investigation is still ongoing and making comments may derail the investigation. Kevin reaffirms that Irsay is doing something that not enough people do in general, but especially for owners in the NFL.

(43:14 - 1:11:34) - Stephen Holder of The Athletic and IndyStar calls into the program and gives his take on the Irsay situation. Query and Holder go back and forth about how Irsay is probably the owner people know most about in the
NFL. This benefits Irsay's ability to speak against Snyder as there is likely nothing that could come out against him that most don't already know about.

(1:11:35 - 1:24:41) - Are running quarterbacks really in that much danger in the NFL? Callers come on the show to talk Colts play calling. What is the commitment to Jonathan Taylor long term. More talk about if the Colts should continue with
the no-huddle offense long term. Not every quarterback can handle no-huddle offense, but Matt Ryan can. The Joe Montanna - John Candy Superbowl Story.

(1:24:42 - 1:28:59) - Is Grover Stewart the best Colts runningback that you never see their jersey out in the wild. Is the ceiling lower or the floor higher for Colts linemen without Shaquille Leonard?

(1:29:00 - 1:57:13) - Pacers television commentator Chris Denari comes on the program to hype up the season opener with the Washington Wizards later tonight. Denari stresses that the team needs to hit the ground running because this season will only get more complicated for the Pacers as the season goes on. He thinks that this season will give fans a lot of high moments to talk about seeing this young talented team surprise other teams in the NBA. Jalen Smith could be a big figure for the Pacers this year after choosing to remain with the team. Query wonders what player will benefit most from a year without expectation? Denari thinks a lot of the roster is going to benefit from a season without expectations as several members are 22 years old and just getting their first taste of NBA level play.

    (1:57:54 - 2:06:12) - Pop Quiz.

(2:06:13 - 2:15:56) - Amazon is broadcasting a game on Black Friday. High-School statefinals still being held at Lucas Oil Stadium. Pacers fans need to step up.

A look into the MLB post-season, Phillies vs. Padres and Guardians vs. Yankees happening tonight. Has Carson Wentz's injury sealed the Colts fate in the 2023 draft?

Saturday claims that this is the most comfortable that Matt Ryan has looked all season. He explains why teams may not tap into certain personnel groups over the course of a season. Jeff brakes down what percent offense vs. defense makes a difference when it comes to formations in football. The Colts are still a bit behind in offenseive scheme overall as teams still understand that taking away Jonathan Taylor is essential to stopping the offense. Sunday was the first time we made a defense change their game plan. They look at the Pacers finally getting some media attention now that the regular season is approaching. If Carlisle has something to prove as he hasn't been out of the first round of the NBA playoffs in over a decade.
